Playing doctor again in Richmond
Virginia lawmakers again are butting into doctors' examination rooms. This time, they've sent a bill to the governor that will require doctors to disclose to patients undergoing tests for Lyme disease that the test might give a false positive or a false negative result.

I am writing regarding the ediorial called Playing doctor again in Richmond. I felt compelled to respond to this editorial. Thank goodness someone is making a stance regarding testing for lyme disease. This is what the editorial should have been named. Its been proven again and again that this testing is insensitive and unreliable. I personally live in a part of the country that the CDC claims has nearly a zero risk from lyme disease. I am also the person who hds 6 six ticks tested from her property whereas 4 had the borrelia bacteria in their gut, and that is just the ones I found. This is no news flash it happens every day and nobody is doing anything about it. People wake up in the throws of a debiltating life that never ends. If I had taken that first negative test and not researched why I came back positive on one band but not the two bands that would deem me CDC positive, I would certainly not be here. It took a whole year of antibiotics to render my immune system to realize there was a really big problem and for the calls from the county health department regarding my CDC positive western blot.( I have records of everything I am telling you). This should be the story and their should be applauding and bowing down to the politicians of Virginia to make a stance regarding the highly debated medical condition called Lyme Disease.
The requirement that patients now be informed that "testing for Lyme disease can be problematic and standard laboratory tests often result in false negative and false positive results" offers little in helpful information to patients, and may not even be accurate.
What we should be asking is why every state is not instilling this disclosure.
