My father was diagnosed with Lupus about 8 years ago. Most recently (just a week ago) he was diagnosed with ITP. He is getting transfusions every day now and his platlet count is coming up. Hopefully no more complications will arise.

Please wait...
I went through 2 years of being treated for stress and hives. I finally had biopisies of the skin and found lupus, then blood test said lupus, and sjogren's syndrome. Now have fibromyalgia too. Last blood test they said my platelets were low and we would keep an eye on them. I take plaquenil for the lupus and it did help the fatigue but still really tired. But I try to keep my sense of humor that helps alot.

I am currently conducting marketing research with patients diagnosed with ITP, a low blood platelet count of an unknown origin - not related to any other conditions. The research is happening on Thursday 3/18 in a research facility in Manhattan - each patient with ITP will speak with a researcher for 50 minutes about educational material related to a medication for ITP. If anyone is interested, please call 800-836-1684 and ask for Angela. You will be paid for your time, and all information discussed will be completely confidential.
Thank you!

I'm new. Diagnosed with SLE 2 years ago. I was recently put on Cellcept due to nephritis being tossed into the mix. I had a severe migraine that sent me to the ER. Felt like a stake was driven into the left side of my head. I thought I was stroking out. Has anyone experienced this? My docs keep shrugging at me. I don't want them to put this under the "it's part of lupus" umbrella, when I should look into it further. I've never had a migraine like that before.

I had ITP when I was 18 and I was experimented on and finally found a treatment that worked which was the cemo for a type of cancer... Last resort was going to be to take out my spleen but didn't have to do that... I have had normal platelet count for the last 6 years... About 4 weeks ago I started having severe joint pain and got blood tests... They don't know what it is yet but Lupus is a possiblility... Is there a connection between the two??? Does anyone know??? Please let me know!!! Thanks

ITP can be a symptom of Lupus. I had it for 8 years before my Lupus diagnosis. So far, my ITP is in remission, but unfortunately my Lupus is not.

I was diagnosed Lupus when I was 32 and am now 55. I have had some setbacks with my kidneys but continued to work. In the last 2 and 1/2 wks I have been diagnosed with ITP. I was told it was managable but a long road to get there. I am not able to work and it is a big adjustment but won't give up. I did not know ITP exsisted but I am finding out its not good to have both. My prayers are with you all. As I learn more I will try to pass it on to you.

I also take plaquenil for 24 years now and I feel it has been a miracle drug for me. I now have a new challenge "ITP" which I hope to get better. My prayers are with you.

I have had lupus for 14 years, and just in the past year have been diagnosed with platelets dropping into the 40s, from the 110s, over a period of about a little over a year. I have seen a hematologist and will have a followup visit in a few weeks. I am functional, and not symptomatic, so I am not sure if they will just monitor it.

I was diagnosed with ITP in 1980 (15 yrs.)and had a splenectomy. I have not had any problems until about 11 years ago when I was diagnosed with Lupus. It's a mild case so I do pretty well. I am currently taking Plaquenil daily. But, in early June my left eye began to swell. It's due to inflammation behind the eye. No tumors thank GOD. I am starting to take methotrexate for the inflammation. Hopefully, that works.
