A 13-year-old boy is fighting for his life at Children's Hospital. Brandon Rice is on life support after his parents said he smoked a dangerous synthetic drug that mimics marijuana.

This is a terrible story. I hope that kid lives. I did a lot of stupid shit when I was younger too. It's obvious that he was just experimenting, and he thought it was safe because it was legal.

Even if I'd never heard stories about the dangers of a particular substance sold in a head shop, convenience store, etc, I still wouldn't put it into my body. Any purported "knockoff" or "synthesized" marijuana couldn't even remotely compare to the real thing. The whole concept raises suspicions for me even without the tragic misfortunes of the young kid who this thread is about.

I've also got a feeling that Salvia is gonna turn out to not be as harmless as it's thought to be. Anything that alters your brain chemistry to that extent has to have some sort of consequential effects. I haven't tried it, nor do I really have any desire to.

It's just such a shame that the door is even open for unscrupulous entrepreneurs to market these stupid knockoffs to weed, all of which are either dangerous as hell or questionably dangerous. Especially when pot itself is utterly harmless and has been proven to be so for quite some time.
