I fail to see where it is the business of the Mayor and City Council to meddle in the business matters of private business in Sedalia. I feel that the Mayor and City Council have enough important issues to take care of in the City without making smoke free policies for local business's.
I believe that if the management of a business wants their business to be smoke free than grow some balls and make it smoke free. If a Business wants to allow smoking than grow some balls and allow smoking.
It is easy for the business owners to let the City Government be the villain that way if smokers complain that they can't smoke in a bar or similar business than all the onwer has to do is blame the Mayor and City Councilman, and immediately the Monkey is off their backs. Another important reason to let the Mayor and City Councilman be the villain than business's don't lose money because of their smoke free policies because all the business's are smoke free and the consumer is "beat"
But remember there are always othe cities within driving distance and plenty of people can damn sure drive there.
Mayor and City Council mind your own damn business and let store owners make their own policies.

If Sedalia imposes an ordinance prohibiting smoking then maybe someone could purchase the Old Dickie Doo Bar and make it a smoking bar. Isn't this bar outside the city Limits of Sedalia? Seems like to me there are plenty of buildings that could be considered outside the city limits on south 65 for smoking bars. Another option is that all the people that come to Sedalia that don't live in Sedalia could just find another city to go where they can have a smoke and a beer in peace without fear of being busted on an undercover cigarette sting by the local Police Department. Local Headlines 47 people busted last week on undercover sting for smoking cigarettes in a local bar. 5 Meth Labs still working across town, cuz Police too busy busting cigarette smokers which are easier to catch.

Here's a good reason why business owners aren't the decision makers. They are out to make the easiest buck, and will cut corners wherever they can.

New Jersey bars filled premium liquor bottles with cheap booze, authorities say

Associated Press

TRENTON, N.J. Twenty-nine bars and restaurants, nearly half of them TGI Fridays, filled premium brand liquor bottles with lower-quality booze and sold it to patrons who thought they were buying the good stuff, authorities said Wednesday.

A yearlong investigation by the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, dubbed Operation Swill, found that the establishments had swapped out the good liquor in an effort to fool customers and increase profits.
