A kid at my son's Headstart got lice, and about a week later (which was yesterday) my son woke up itching his head. I took him to the doctor and that's when I noticed a little squiggly bug. He certainly had less than a dozen. I got the Rx and gave his treatment. I picked at any eggs I found and stuffed all the throw pillows and stuffed animals in garbage bags. I did all our recent laundry, and then decided to do the lotion rinse myself, even though I wasn't itchy and couldn't see anything. It's just me and him in our home, so I had no one to check my scalp for me.
This morning I checked his hair and only found one little egg. Sounds promising.
I have EXTREME dry scalp. I have for a couple years now, I think it's a side effect of a medication I'm on or something. "Selson Blue" and "Head 'n Shoulders" do NOT work for me. Anyway, when I checked my head afterwards, I saw some small red sores, which I read are a sign of lice. HOWEVER, it could be from my dry scalp, right?
First of all, do you think having a thick layer of dry skin on your scalp would help keep lice away? I would think so, since it would be harder for them to get to the blood.
Also, if I did the rinse, should I be itching every once in a while. Just a quick itch will appear on a spot on my head, but it goes away even if I don't itch it. I've had an itchy back of the neck , the forehead line, and sides of the head for years, like I said, because of the dry scalp. I've even drawn blood sometimes from itching so hard. I saw a cosmetologist and she said it didn't even look like dandruff, just dry scalp.
I guess I'm wondering what else I can do to get rid of the lice. I hate to send him back to school....but I guess it's only just begun! I have 13 more years of a pretty good chance of him getting head lice! I guess I can't shelter him!
If I can't find anything around my ears, my forehead line, and have extremely dry scalp....do you still think I have lice? What else should I do?
Thanks.
PS- I vacuumed the whole house, threw out our pillows, and got a new brush btw
