father diagnosed with Legionnaires

My father died on July first and I was just told by the Burlington county health dept that he had been diagnosed with legionnaire’s pneumonia - he was admitted into Virtua Mount Holly with pneumonia on June 14 - the hospital never told me that he had legionnaire's pneumonia - the health department called my mother and asked her to check with my father regarding his whereabout for the last couple weeks - they did not know that he died. Is this something that happens often?
