My husband's new knee just started popping and he said it feels loose, slipping, and it's clicking. He had the TKR surgery (with the Biomet knee system) in December 2010 and these problems just started about 3 weeks ago. I was walking next to him yesterday, May 30, 2011, and I could hear his knee popping. Horrible sound. His TKR has been going well for him until 3 weeks ago then the new knee started slipping on him and making noises. My husband went to see his DR. and he did an x-ray, but the Dr. said that he couldn't see anything. The Dr. mentioned that my husband may need to have another surgery called a Revision to replace the upper portion of the knee. Has anyone else out there had any problems with the Biomet knee system?

I have had two knee replacements (same knee) within a year due to allergies to the metal. The new one is titanium and is from BioMet. The knee pops, creaks and makes all kinds of noises - some of which are very noticeable. I asked the OS about it and he took xrays and manipulated the knee but had no answer. There is also a lot of pain associated with that knee at present and the tests show somthing like an infection in the top part - nothing on the bottom. He has no idea what is causing the popping or the problems. The good news is that the knee is stable - I even go snow skiing both with and without a brace with no problems either way. I have not heard of anything called a "revision" so I will inquire with my OS and see what he has to say about it. Failing that - I'm going for a different opinion from another OS.

I had a TKR in Oct. 2010. I have had problems with it from day one pooping, clicking and pain. The pain has gotten worse with time. I have been back to the Dr. and have been told every time nothing is out of place it just takes time. Well, I went to see a different OS last week he took x-rays and agreed it looked ok. Then he said that he need to check for infection and do a bone-scan to check for loosening. I'm still waiting for the results from that test. As far as skiing, are you kidding me it's all I can do to walk. and by the way mine is also BIOMET

I had a total knee replacement on 1-26-10 and had nothing but problems from day 1 it was a Biomet product and it also popped 24/7 pain and could not bend it walked with a big limp and was on pain pills for over 2 and a half years, in Oct of 2010 I saw a different Dr. for a second opinion and found that the knee cap was not working it was no good, so 3-7-2011 this Dr. replacement me with a new knee it it fine now.

I had a Biomet TKR in Feb 09 and have had continuous swelling and two surgeries since to remove scar tissue and the knee lining. It was recently discovered that the plastic lining is worn out between the tibia and femur metal inserts. They are operating yet again to replace the plastic insert. I to have had the popping and clicking and been living on Percocet for pain. Surgery is scheduled for 9-21-11.

How did they know you were allergic? I'm wondering if I am. Dr told me no such thing. He just doesn't want to bothered

I first had a partial right knee replacement and had a manipulation shortly after surgery to gain mobility. Went back to work and struggled for about 5 years and then had a total right knee replacement 1/5/10. It is a Biomet. Started popping and feeling like it was going to slip out of joint from the beginning. Also have a big lump on top of the knee. Can't even walk around the block without severe sharp pain in my knee. My doc who did both surgeries says it looks fine in an xray and dismisses me. I've had to give up my great job and go on disability. I also have a low back fusion from the same injury but feel that my back hurts mostly from walking with a limp due to my knee. I was an active person before all this and now have to live on pain meds. I'm really depressed over this and feel like I have no life. I know other people who have tkr and do great.

I am due to have a TKR at end of Feb/12. This Signature system by Biomet has been recommended. Having read your comments there aren't many that favour it.I am not an athlete but walk a lot.

I had a partial knee replacement done in May 09, had problems the whole time ,pain and pinching. Went back numerous times for xrays always scratched his head and said I don't see anything and don't know why but that it can take 2 years for pain to go away. Well after almost 2 years I coul;dn't even walk so he went and compared xrays and found I had a piece of plastic ccement floating around in there, they scoped and took it out. Still no relief saw a different Dr for a second opinion and and had a Spect bone scan done. The parts were loose and I needed a tkr revision. I can't believe at the cost of these that they only last 2 years. Anyone else have that problem?

I just got back from a doctor for a second opinion on my partial knee replacement I had done 4/11. This past early spring I started having pain and weakness - it's a Biomet. The bone scan indicates there is a loosening so I will have to have an entire new surgery and probably a total knee replacement. I am totally disgusted - they call it a 'revision' but it's a 're-do'.

What tests did they doctor allergies? I was told there is none for such. I had tkr too and still have swelling and aching. I'm wondering about allergies.

Sorry to hear about the issues you folks have been having with Biomet and other replacement knees.

UCLA business student here researching a new diagnostic medical device. I'm conducting interviews with people who have had revision knee surgeries.

If you have had this type of surgery, I want to hear about your experience!! Please email me here: MBAMatt2013 *at* gmail *dot* com

Thanks!

I had a pkr 1/14/13. I have had the clicking and popping and all that from the beginning as well. But the first 34 weeks I did good physical therapy and could have more movement with money than I do now. Is clicking worse than ever and buckling and popping and that's all I can do to walk into any weight on it. It is now got called in pain all the way down from my knee all way down my leg & in the shin and ankle. its very very painful I too am being referred for a second opinion but being military they're making me go to ortho on base and I keep being told by my original surgeon that nothings wrong that you look great also this to me seems like a major issue with Biomet products. I had to scope done on this me prior to this and was told that he would take it all that's right if not would not have any problem after this was done for at least 10 years and Here I am 6 months out and can barely walk on it I am NOT happy at all! I have many other health issues due to chemo I took for 2 years but nothing related to this knee o ther than making my vit. D low quiet often. but my OS said my bones look great when he did surgery so what is the issue? And I already have back issues in the Slim is causing my back issues to be more prevalent. I think its time that we all have a chat with Biomet guarding the classic need that supposed to be so much better than the metal. I don't know about everyone else but I'm not buying it there's no reason to be clicking this much 6 months into it and the such pain when in the very beginning I can do more than I do now.
