1 year after uni knee I have more pain than before surgery, I was told I would be able to ride a bike ,dance etc.Leg is stiff, have had 4 Bakers cysts which are very painful. Certain movements create sudden pain in the lateral to back side of the leg(side away from Uni-Knee).
even after an C T Scan I am told that except for an over abundance of fluid, the knee looks o.k. Yet my gait is off and I really get tired of the pain. has any one else had to deal with this and what to do?

My husband had a total knee replacement a year and a half ago. Swelling continues with lots of fluid. No pain but limited mobility due to fluid accumulation. No infection and x-rays show no loosening of the knee. Have tried everything from oral antiinflamatory meds to knee injection of steroid. Nothing worked. We are getting a second opinion.

I am in my 4th month after TKR now and went for check up today. I also am putting up with fluid but I dont take any imflamatory medicenes. My knee goes down at night then easily fills with fluid shortly after moving around. The doctor drained the fluid today and it felt so much better immediately. This was at noon. I get home at 5:30 and fluid is buidling agin. Did your husband have his drained and it still had a fluid build up afterwards?

My knee was swelled up from the arthritis I had. I had a TKR in Sept of 08 and it's still swelled. The swelling has never went down but now the swelling is all the way down into my foot. It gets so bad I have to take my shoe off towards evening. At night the swelling in my foot goes down but the swelling in my knee doesn't. As soon as I get up and start moving around though the swelling is back in my foot. Anyone else have problems with swelling like that?

I know from experience that you probably torn your ACL and need to have it looked at to see if it is a partial tear or complete. This will cause the swelling and the popping. The medicine only helps temporarily. You will most likely have to have surgery to get this taken care of..

I have the same problem. I had a meniscus tear that was repaired in July. I was also told that I could return to normal activity in 6-8 weeks. It's been 6-months and I've had my knee drained twice. It is stiff, I can't bend it all the way or put full weight on it. I also get severe pain that radiates from the outside of my knee around to the Top Cap. My doctor says he's stumped and I am very frustrated.

It's December 17th. I went back to the Doctor to have my knee drained again. Now he's telling me in three months if the fluid continues he will have to open up the knee and revise.Guess I'd better get a second opinion.

Had a partial knee replacemnt in May of this year. Just had bloodwork done for possible infection and knee aspirated to determine infection after blood work came back normal. I will have a bone scan in two weeks. There's still pain on the side that has the artificial joint when I bend down with weight on the knee (unloading the dryer, picking up stuff from the floor, etc). Feels like there is a painful band stretching across the bottom of the knee - no clue what that is. Knee aches constantly. Is it the same with you? After 9 months I'm ready for all this to go away.

I'm in exactly the same predicament. My bone scan came back "normal", but my knee hurts with every step I take, really worse than it did at 4 months. My doctor said he wants to go back in and do a total knee replacement . It's only been 9 months since I had my partial. I'm getting a second opinion, but am really not ready for a second doctor to agree. I don't want to go through this again so soon.

i had a total knee replacement back in jan 09 and now awaiting for my 1 year examination to see how things are looking. i have suffered with the continuous numbness on the outer side of the knee, and now having a pain in the front. my knee has been swollen since day one and i have a tight feeling around the knee. my mobility isn't too bad and flexibility good, but just doesn't feel right.
i use the machines at the gym on low weights and do reputitions. i also use the bike and rowing machine but can feel pain when bending up the knees. unfortunately i do not drive therefore my legs and knee are everything to me. is there anyone out there who can give me any advice.

Pretty much the same with me. Walked on the treadmill about 1 1/2 miles three times a week and worked the knee with weights - nothing too strenuous though. Knee just kept feeling worse. Got a second opinion after labs said there was no infection (yeah), but the downside is that the only thing to do surgically is go back in and change my partial knee replacement with a total knee. Went back for physical therapy. That has been a godsend. After two months I am feeling much better. Still have trouble going down a stair, but my pt girl has me doing exercises to work on that (has me doing one-leg squats with a pilates ball and says I'll have a behind like Jennifer Lopez soon). She did ultrasound and something with patches and electrical stimulation. She really works on join mobilization. I see a tiny light at the end of my tunnel. My new doctor, although he said a total knee is all he could do surgically, does not really want to do that at this time as I am only 52. He'd like to wait until 60 or so if I can. I'm about to start some water aerobics also. Hope this helps you. I thought at the beginning of my physical therapy that there was no hope of getting better because my knee seemed to be getting worse after almost a year since my surgery.
