I had surgery for kidney cancer 7 months ago and still have pain in that side. Is this to be expected? my cat scan showed nothing there.

Hya, my dad had his removed and also still has pain which he has been told is due to internal scar tissue which is totally normal and nothing to worry about. Also, my partner had his gall bladder removed 6 years ago and has similar pains in the area and was told the same. Hope this helps. Clairex

My dad had his kidney removed and still has the odd pain. He was told this was due in part to scar tissue and is totally normal. My partner had his gallbladder removed 6 years ago and also has simlilar localised pain and was told the same so I think this must be normal after any surgery. Hope this Helps, Clairex

Hello, I had my kidney removed[left] due to cancer last July. I have alot of upper pain in my shoulder, and back, I was told the position they put my left arm in could be why. Anyone out there with the same problem, and also my bowels are not the same. And digestion of food, do not feel hungry, lost a lot of weight, mind you needed to as well. But now I do not want to lose anymore either. And still have a lot of pain where the huge scar is . Get back to me if anyone out there relates.

The pain is probably cause by the nerves and muscles that might have been damages during surgery... I know that when I had my surgery.. it was a some what different procedure. as they had to remove about 1/3 of my kidney . and tried to save as much as possible. As I was born with only one Kidney.. And even now after 6 years . There are times when it gets painful. Also there is a chance of adhesions.. I had that problem . And at times it would feel like I had a large piece of plactic in my side. I hope that you feel better soon.and all goes well with you.

Did they by any chance have a eletronic wire attached to your back that went doen into your kidney area after surgery.. I think it had some thing to do with pain. Any how now and then. especially when it rain I feel there .. I've also had 2 ablations since then to have cancer tumors burned in my kidney.. And there are 2 spots when the needled went through my back to get to the kidney . they also hurt when it rains. It does get better..

Similar problems. had 1/3 of my left kidney removed 6 months ago. remained in the hospital a week after surgery and things seemed to heal as expected (with in a few weeks) I was up to normal. Back at work in about 5 weeks. Had very little pain up until now it seems the pain has reaccured 96 months later). the pain is bot really bad but annoying and there. Trusting God I know its nothing however, when i feel that tub of pain it makes me wonder if everything inside is still ok. The doctor mentioned after surgery that it would take a while since they had ot cut through so many nerves and the pain would be from my awakinging nerves. well they have slept long enough. wOW 6 months... I Suppose if we are able to type about this we are blessed somehow!! ;0)

Hi donna, first sorry to hear you still have pain. What type of surgery did you have? The full cut or the small holes?? Talk like a DR don"t I? LOL. The reason I ask is because my Brother had the full cut over five years ago and he still has pain, not alot but still pain. I had my kidney removed april 16 of this year ,small holes and I don"t have any pain, and that was just over 2 months ago. I was just at the hospital 48 hours and send home. I guess I was lucky , about the pain I mean. I guess were all different, but I"m sure time heals all. The reason I came to this forum was to see if anyone like me had cancer and was told they got it all and then it came back some where else. I'm going to have 2 CT's and achest xray and blood test next month just to be safe. Tha Dr told me they got it all but I still worrie. I hope your pain stops and you take care. Bert

Had part of my right kidney removed by Robot 3 years ago. I have some odd pain in my back. They go in from the front. The pain is not great, more like a discomfort by bothersome. Is pain like this normal. I try not to lift heavy things but sometimes I have to. I work in the lawn service and drive a zero turn mower and all the bouncing I do may not be good. Scaring is what I've been told. They can not find anything. Just living with it but uncomfortable. have a graet day all. Charles 59 years old now.

Im 28 and had radical removel 2 weeks ago and the pain where my kidney use to be has gotten very bad. It wakes me up all night long if I move a inch. Is this the brain not connecting with the kidney or due to surgery. My incision is 8 inches on the belly.

My husband had his kidney removed in 2005 due to RCC. Had it removed with the full cut. Went through the side/back. He still has pain and he has numb places on his side. The cut is so deep that I think there is no way not to damage the nerves. By the way he had just turned 50 years old.
Bert-my husband's cancer came back after approx. 3 years to his lungs. He had a resection of the lung and was out of the hospital the next day-back to work the next week. One and a half year later it was found in the other lung. Same surgery was done. We were told by his urologist when he had his kidney removed that he shouldn't have any more problems. We thought we were homefree. He had always had a catscan every six months and bloodwork. I wish we had found a good oncologist right after diagnosis. I think his 1st lung tumor would of been found earlier. He had it for approx. a year before the urologists and radiologists realized it was a problem. We're going this week for another catscan and praying things will be great. Plese find an oncologist to oversee your care and do not stop with the catscans no matter what. I've heard of too many people that quit having them and the cancer came back. Sending you prayers for continued good health.

Had my left kidney removed from the front due to a 6 cm renal oncocytoma in July of 10. After 6-8 weeks pain was gone. By December left abdominal pain came back and only kept getting worse. been do 3 different docs 9 times each says it is scar tissue. Hsd 3 CAT scans in July 10, clear chest xray in Dec 10 and clear bloodwork in Oct Dec March July and August. Pain above and to the left of navel along with my side and the lcoation formerly known as my left kidney. Feels like someone is ripping my stomach from my chest at times. on vicodin 2 mnoths now percocet 3 times a day. Going for a CT scan this week. Has anyone else had this degree of pain? This is so frustrating I could scream.

My g/f had her left kidney removed 2 and 1/2 years ago due to tcc. She still has a lot of pain in her back. To the point where she can't even stand up cooking dinner for longer than 30 minutes before the pain gets too bad. They wanted to do it key hole but the cancer was too big so she ended up with 55 staples from her back to her stomach. Will this pain ever get better?

Hi, I had my left kidney removed in 1979 and still have pain where
the scar is and feel twinges of pain periodically if I don't work out and stretch often. I don't think the wierd feeling from the scar area ever goes away.

My husband lost his left kidney to cancer july 2120 as well. He is still in so much pain but yet like you ct's and xrays and blood work show nothing. The urologist turned him loose after his 6month check up and told him the pain was from nothing he did and that it should go away. It hasn't and he lives in constant pain sometimes so severe it takes away his breath. He isn't on pain meds due he is is military and due to retire next year after serveing 26 years. So he won't take pain meds because he doesn't want it to interfere with his job. I like the one lady that to get an oncolgist I think I'll look around for one in the area we are stationed at. Sorry I couldn't give you better hope of less pain.

I am also in the military (18 years) and had a partial kidney removal due to cancer. Have him see his local pain clinic and they can prescibe lidocane patches. They won't get him entirely out of pain but will ease the pain significantly and wont affect his work.

hi, i had my right kidney removed three years ago after discovering a tumor after sever pain in my right flank. After key hole surgery i recovered quickly and pain was gone but since having another child i have been in on going pain in exact place as it had been before surgery. I've had loads of tests which have shown nothing. I asked if it could be scar tissue causing the pain which my doctor dismissed, but after reading previous posts i think this could be the problem, lets hope. I have been prescribed many things for pain without much luck then i was put on Gaberpentin, it worked so well i thought the pain was gone and stopped taking them alas the pain came back and i'm now back on them. think its just something i have to except i'll be on them long term.
