I have a friend that was recently diagnosed with stage IV renal cell carcinoma with mets to the lung, lymph nodes and brain.

He was just started on the newly approved drug Nexavar. Does anyone know how well this new drug works on metastatic kidney cancer?

I have stage IV Renal cell. I started Nevavar in late November, 2005. After 2 months my scans showed signifigant shrinkage.
The side affects are not too bad.(Mainly fatigue)
I hope this helps.

My wife has just been diagnosed with the same and is undergoing tests at a Phoenix location. She too will be put on the new drug Nexavar. We are anxious to hear any information of what we have face and how it will help us. Is there any proven places where anyone knows that we can get good advice and care.

My mother was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma 7 years ago. After removal of her kidney, she was placed in the trial for Nexavar. I her case it has worked wonders. Her metastisized tumors have shrunk considerably. She is still very my alive and kicking!!!

I can't answer your question because I have the same one, and am writing here to see if you found out anything. My mother-in-law has the same story. Thanksgiving of 2004 she had a kidney removed and now the cancer in back, 2 spots in one lung, largest 6 cm. Information we have received is so contradictory. Does anyone out there have any information on prognosis, experimental treatments, etc...

Mu father was diagnosed with kidney cancer 3 yrs ago. It has spread to lungs, spine, adrenal glands. He was on Nexavar for 3 months. In that three months it spread to the spine, the tumor is his adrenal gland doubled in size. He was taken off of it. He was extremely sick while he was on the meds. No appetite, very tired, nauseous. I hope everyone else has better results with it. He was put on it the very day it was FDA approved.

I've heard good things about Nexavar but even more about Sutent. In Clinicals Sutent showed tumor size reduction in around 40% of patients. Nexavar only showed reduction in 2%. Nexavar did stop growth however in 80%.

We decided to go for the 40% with my Dad who has RCC and so far great results. The tumors are shrinking. While the drug is expensive, it is worth every penny. He does have good insurance so he gets it relatively cheap.

I highly recommend investigating sutent as well as all news points to the miracous nature of this drug.

Best of luck. Life is worth fighting for!

My mother now 81 had a kidney taken 10 years ago due to a renel cell tumor on the out side, the whole kidney was taken at the time. In Oct 2003 she was diagnosised with renel cell cancer in the L2 and L4 lumbar region of her spine. She had Avastin treatments, which helped shrink the tumors some. She has been in hospice since Feb 2006 and is on many pain meds. I now realize this is a "long suffering evil disease".

My wife goes on Nexavar next week and I will keep all informed of her progress. At this time she is off of pain pills and has no pain but feels blue due to her unknown future. I do my best to keep her spirits up.

Had kidney and tumor removed April, 2003. Cancer back in lymph node behind heart. Started Nexavar April, 2006. After 2 months, tumor shrank. Had side effects of rash all over and blisters on hands and feet, which have cleared up. My hair got very thin (I purchased a wig), but mostly feel pretty good. I'd love to hear from more people what side effects they are having (if any) and how they are managing. But Nexavar does work (along with prayer)!

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Pisces

Are you feeling fraught? It certainly seems that way, perhaps because you've got far too much on your plate and not nearly enough time to tackle it all. Do yourself a big favor and start with whatever is most urgent, otherwise you'll waste time by dithering or getting caught up in trivial tasks. Above all, don't get into a panic because that will squander valuable time and energy.
