US patent application published on Sept. 20, 2012 – Describes the use of gastrointestinal microbiota as a biomarker for the diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome. The bacterial taxa include several bacterial specieis such as Dorea formicigenerans et rel., Ruminococcus obeum et rel., Lachnospira pectinoschiza et rel., Prevotella melaninogenica et rel, Prevotella oralis et rel., Catenibacterium mitsuokai et rel etc. The gastrointestinal bacteria were detected by molecular diagnostic methods such as PCR or LCR.
