Hi there.
Savlon cream? This actually sounds like an amazing idea.. I am desperate. Did the specialist say there were any risks associated with using savlon internally?

hi
i am unsure about the condoms as i have had sex with condoms and without and still get cystitis, it used to be something i got every now and again, now after every time i have sex i get it. its very upsetting, again weeing after sex and washing and cranberry capsules, nothing seems to work.
also the docs say condoms and spermicides can make it worse!
also i find that im on yasmin (contraceptive pill) and this seems to lower my sex drive meaning i am dryer which just adds to the problem? has anyone else found this?
im about to literally give up, as when i didnt have a bf for 8 months i did not get it once!
thanks!
im on yasmin and only because microgynon made me have terrible mood swings.. yasmin lowers my sex drive aswell as seem to have bought constant cystitus and thrush. if you know of any link, id appreciate the info as its causing too much arguments in my relationship... thanks, amy x

I was just diagnosed with IC and so far I have had 2 bladder treatments, seemed to be working until I have intercourse and now it's back, but to the comment on cranberry juice...my urologist told me that was the worst thing for IC. So stay away from the cranberry juice.

Please be careful when washing yourself down there as certain shower gels etc can cause infection. Before I was sexually active I used a foam type shower gel and I ended up with blood in my urine. Waterfall d mannose powder has helped me. Try that. Google it. Take the powder form not the tablet. It's fab.

Hi All,
I have suffered from cystitis for the last 12 years!! Again like most of you I have done absolutely everything to try and prevent it after having sex with my partner. Until a year ago, it didn't occur every time I had sex which was strange in itself as the ritual of cleaning, peeing etc always remained the same. However now I am getting it every time I have sex which at this stage is very infrequent because of the fear of getting a bout of cystitis again.
My husband and I want to start trying for a baby but I'm thinking how in Gods name will we even manage if I'm down with this dibilitating infection every time we have sex!!!!
I have a bout of it now and have been on anti b's for 3 days with no sign of improvement. In short I am totally and utterly fed up with it.
Some of the advice here has been helpful with some new remedies that I will definitely try. I've an appointment with a new doc next week so hopefully she might enlighten me a bit more than the rest of the ones I've seen. It good to know that so many others suffer from this also.

Oh how I have suffered for almost 10 years. I have had kidney infections, bladder infections, uti's you name it. Had 2 cystoscopy's(bladder stretch) first one worked for a few years until problem started again and the last one didnt work at all. I am in constant pain. In the last few months the problems have gotten very bad especially after sex. I am now afraid to go near my boyfriend of 2 years as I cant handle the pain anymore. Been on every anti-biotic, herbal tablet, cranberry and no major relief. I have the d-mannose which I need to start taking every day. I would do anything for this to go away and get back to having a normal life. I am afraid to have sex for fear that I will end up in pain after. Helps to know I am not alone in the fight against IC.

I have suffered from this since I was first sexually active right through to now (am actually sitting in A&E at 11 at night waiting 4 some different antibiotics) I don't get it EVERY time I have sex but I get it a lot. Like everyone else I have done the whole ritual of showering before and after sex, not using soap after sex, weeing after sex, cranberry juice and water and have been on so many antibiotics that I am immune to most of them. I am so scared of getting it that if ever there are spare antibiotics lying around where someone in the family has had them for something else I take them and store them up so that I can have a supply and take one after sex! A bit drastic I know but the thought of the pain is too much and really puts me off having sex which causes problems in my relationship. I will defo try the savlon tip, I'm jus worried that it might irritate me as I'm really sensitive if I use it internally.
I am due to have scan to see what the problem is but I don't fancy the idea of having my bladder stretched in case it makes your bladder weak? I have just been given 2 packs of antibiotics and sent on my way.........

Sounds like inflammation and bruising. That is why no bacteria shows

I too have been suffering with this problem for a year in a half. Hi Chlo
I have had cystitis since I was a baby. After many years and tests, I found out that I have "Duplication of the ureters". This means that I have two drainage tubes coming from one of my kidneys instead of one. When you have more than one tube draining urine from the kidney to the bladder, some urine can travel back up the tube because of blockage, and this can cause recurrant infections.
Maybe you could ask your doctor for a scan of your bladder, as this would show if you have the same problem.
I have been told that there is an operation that will solve the problem - they seal off one of the drainage tubes (the smaller one), and this is supposed to stop the infections.
Other alternatives are the ones mentioned on this site i.e. antibiotics, drinking plenty, etc.
I am going to an Andrew Wommack Christian Conference in June to be prayed for, as I know prayer works. Having suffered with this condition for 35 years, what have I got to lose!
Find out about Grace and Faith Family Conference at awmi.net Click on "Meetings". It is held at Telford International Centre 1st-4th June 2012.
Hope I've helped in some way.

I have had Cystitis 5 times this year, 4 times since September. Being at uni, everytime my boyfriend came up for a week I'd end up getting it. I have had my ABs changed they tell me to urinate etc. I'm not spending money on cranberry juice when it isn't proven.

It really does my head in, and I become a wreck when I get it. It's such a relief that I am not alone. I get so self concious about it and ask my OH how he puts up with me for getting this infection all the time.

It wasn't until I really dug deep that it could be a reaction to latex.(I have been getting dermatitis on my wrists and eyes, it wasn't until this week I thought they could be connected.) So we're going to leave the condoms for a while and see if I get it again.(I'm on the implant anyway).

I had to buy releif sashets because I couldn't stand the pain, I had to scream when going to the toilet.

Thanks for posting <3

As a quick fix to help the pain, boil 40grams of barley in 1200 ml of water for half an hour. Drink the water. You can add some honey to make it taste a little better. It's not too unpleasant and it really helps. It might help to drink this on a regular basis.

Hi Ladies. I've also suffered from IC since I can remember (I think I was 10 when I had my first attack). Sometimes it's bacterial, other times it's not. I've had my bladder stretched twice (both times it's worked and I've gone 10 years with only minor attacks in between). I think I'm due for another one now, as it's been 10 years and I've had about 9 attacks in less than six months. It's so painful and that pain completely takes over. Even for the non-bacterial attacks, I find that antibiotics provide me with relief. Why is that? I know stress is a huge trigger, but mostly for me it's always after sex. Particularly non-lublicated sex. I'm going back to cranberry pills and I'll try that Waterfall D-Mannose I've seen mentioned here. Something to note: I have severe allergies, asthma and eczema. Latex sets me off - so latex condoms will practically send me to the hospital from pain (I'd recommend avoiding them at all costs - there are alternatives). I really feel like diet is also a major contributor. Orange juice or anything else acidic makes my bladder weak and then I'm more susceptible to an attack. I probably don't drink enough water either. I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow. If I learn anything new - I'll post it here. Good luck to all of you. I really do understand the pain and frustration. I thought child birth would actually help - it doesn't (so you can cross that one off your list of possible solutions).

Hi guys suffering too...... I've had mild cases in the past but really bad with my new partner. Not sure if it is infection or inflammation cos it goes in a few days..... Lemon barley water works amazing though, and a tea spoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water. Symptoms go as soon as it hits your bladder . Had swabs and urine tests everything normal ??????/ fed up :(

I'm also a sufferer of what I think is cystitis, it started for me when I was only 15 and it keeps coming back. I don't find the cystopurin medicine available without prescription that helpful and I've been to the doctor's numerous times and had courses of antibiotics which haven't been much use. I tend to get bouts of it and it goes away but then comes back, and usually I have a constant awareness of it in the background with is really frustrating. I'm only 17 and am a virgin so don't understand why I suffer from it. I don't know for definite if it is cystitis but the symptoms are the same. I've got an appointment with a urologist but not for a while and in the mean time I am sick of putting up with symptoms that the doctor doesn't see able to do anything about. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? because it's making it hard to focus on things like school work and it's really stressful, as I'm sure anyone who has had cystitis will know. I'd be so grateful for any useful advice!
