Just reading here how common this is makes me feel a bit better! I've been getting cystitis after sex for the last couple of years, had so many prescriptions for antibiotics, done the cranberry juice & cranberry tablets but it still happens each time my partner & I have sex. I've been menopausal for the last 3 years so I wonder if this has anything to do with it? It's really putting me off having sex .... would rather go without than have another inection, not good for my relationship! Any top-tips would be so good please.

I have suffered for 4 years at now at the point of trying a month long course of antibiotics to clear any irritation/soreness before subjecting myself to bladder stretching and 'scope. Cranberry juice is a myth, if you can find a juice free of sugar.... It actually irritates ic.
I am so glad I'm not alone, it's so bad I sometimes go home from work in pain. Having children is suppose to cure all, seems a bit drastic for me!!
Any new tips are v welcome.

Hi I tried the d mannosse but it didnt work, i still got cystitis after sex. i only see my partner every four weeks, so we do have sex quite a lot, ive had my urethra stretched which has helped a bit, i now take antibiotics about half an hour after sex and drink a cystitis drink straight away and this has stopped me having cystitis for about four months, fingers crossed. I use plenty lubricant and also use an oestrogen vaginal tablet. All this started when i started an early menopause at forty, i didnt know until last year that I was going thru it. I had flushes etc but thought i was to young!! during my cystoscapy the specialist found out that my uretha was a bit withered.... due to the menopause and prescribed the vaginal tablets. I still get discomfort after sex but touch wood no infection. Im not quite sure whats working but its transformed my life for now, It might be worth asking about your urethra if your going through the menopause.

I have had cystitis for 4 years now and I mean debilitating cystitis-can't sit down on a chair bad as the burning at the entrance to my urethra is so intense all the time-not just when I pee. Does anyone else get this??? I am married and have to say when my sex life is normal for a newly wed I end up getting sent home from work - i can't sit, I go the colour of death and break out in a cold sweat-the pain is like no other. I feel bad for my husband-he's scared to come near me most times. Sex is ruining our lives as a result of this illness. I have tried everything-condoms, waterfall d mannose, high strength cranberry tablets, the works! The only relief is to take tramadol and put a hot water bottle between my legs to numb the pain. Please if there is anyone out there the same can you let me know that I'm not alone!

Hi all,

Odd as this may sound, It's really nice to know I'm not alone in my misery with recurrent UTIs.

I've been with my boyfriend for about 5 months now and every time we have sex, I end up with a bladder infection that quickly travels to my kidneys as well as the painful burning cystitis symptoms. I've had my urine tested so many times that I've lost count and they keep sending me away with a 5 day course of Keflex because it's always bacterial. It works fine, until we have sex, then I'm back to square one battling another infection.

We obsess over washing before and after, making sure I pee immediately after sex, proper lubrication... Everything. Sex has become like a military operation and still nothing works.

It's getting unbearable and beginning to affect my relationship. My boyfriend and I are literally afraid to have sex and he's starting to feel like this is somehow his fault. I've never had this with a previous partner.

I've been reading about D-mannose(which no one has EVER mentioned to me before) after seeing this forum and I'm gonna give it a whirl.

I'm hopeful after what I've read so I'll be sure to come back and let people know if it works. Wish of luck!:)

xx

Hi I was exact same for 4 years, been through all the things youve tried to no avail, my urethra has been stretched etc which i think has helped a bit but the only thing that has helped was my doctor prescribing me a long term antibiotic, i took it for 2 months and now take it every time i have sex followed immediately after sex with a cymalon type drink, i still get discomfort in my urethra but don't get infections or sever pain, its given me back my sex life, ask your doctor for antibiotics and drink one of the sachets straight after sex and see if it helps Tracy x

Help! Have suffered with UTIs for years. Usually too much wine! Recently its happened about 12-24 hours after sex. Sachets from chemist and drinking cranbery usually sorts it but this time not. Taken two samples into doctors during the week both turned out negative. Come away with nothing just told to drink plenty. Sitting here on a Friday night in total discomfort. The need to pee is just torture!

Well I'm sat here at 5.30am, which is pretty much exactly 24 hours since I last had sex, and I have cystitis. Been to the dr a few times and have been given antibiotics, done a urine sample(which actually came back negative for cystitis?) and I got told 'its just one of those things'. The sachets of sodium citrate sort it out within a couple of hours, but I end up drinking so much water that I'm peeing all day long! Its very annoying because its not after every time I have sex, it seems pretty random. I've tried sex with and without condoms, and it doesn't make a difference. The thing I find most strange, is that this has only happened with my current partner, its never happened with any others. Really hope I get used to him or whatever!
Hi there, i have a similar story. I had several partners and only with one guy i manage to get cystitis, which occurs on the regular. Most of the times it happens if sex is too hard. In fact, the main point about my partner is that his penis is a not really straight, its kinda bent down n when in doggy style position it tends to push just into my bladder n because of the frequent touch, it just gets damaged n all bacteria can easily enter. As simple as that. He decided to make an operation, coz both of us r reluctant to sacrifice the pleasure =))

Right now it's 4.30am UK time and I've been awake for half an hour, rudely awoken by the overwhelming urge to pee!!! It seems that I ALWAYS get cystitis after sex - it doesn't happen if my boyfriend uses condoms but we rarely do that because I'm on the pill. However I really would prefer not to use condoms constantly... Going to try the sodium citrate and cranberry tablets and see what happens, this is unbearable :(

My heart goes out to all those who suffer from
re-ocurring cystitis.
I have tried everything to to stop cystitis occurring after sex. From showering before and after, drinking cranberry juice to water and taking antibiotic's. FOR the past two years I have been taking CRANBERRY CAPSULES 15000, this is the strength of the cranberry capsule. It is also avail in 10000 strength as well. I took 2 a day for the first 14 days and after this One a day. it took at least 4 months before results started to occur. Cystitis will come back if i stop taking capsules. I drink plenty of water.HOPE THIS HELPS..

Ive suffered with cystitis for 15 years, used all the usual, cranberry juice, anti bios etc kept coming back!!! Was at my wits end. Went private to see a specialist who agreed it was sex that was causing it, not through friction, not through not washin etc, but through me being sensitive to the bacteria around a mans penis! He advised i use Savlon as a lubricant, that was 8 years ago, i havent had it since!!!!!!
