I suffered from cystitis after having sex for nearly 5 years. It began that i would get it about once a month until eventually I was suffering from severe cystitis after every single time. I went to the doctors numerous times and saw a specialist. I was told repeatedly to urinate and wash after intercourse, drink cranberry juice and it should go away. We all know this isn't true and it becomes increasingly demoralising to be told the same useless information over and over!
After years of frustration I happened to have sex using a non-latex condom. I've never had cystitis again! I wanted to post a message to all the thousands of girls like me who are not even listened to and just told over and over to drink cranberry juice. It did not occur to the GP or the specialist to mention that I may be alergic to latex or spermicides!

I have just started using condoms with my husband to see if it makes a difference to my continual bouts of cystitis. So far, they have stopped any further infection! Can't explain why this would be so. Any one else have any experience with condoms lessening the frequency of cystitis!!

Whats weird is that a specilaist would actually tell you to use cranberry juice.Cranberry juice sent me to the hospital once with pain. I'm gonna give the condoms a whirl though and see if there is any change.

Since I started having intercourse with my boyfriend I suffered from continuous bouts of cystitis. Like others I was told to drink cranberry juice,(which I did along with litres and litres of water) wash before sex and to urinate and wash immediately afterwards. This did not help at all. I was also given antibiotic after antibiotic until the point where after a culture sensitivity test the doctor found the bacteria had a tolerance to all of the antibiotics tested. In despair I went to a Chinese doctor who through questioning at weekly appointments encouraged me to reflect more deeply than I had been doing about my relationship and attitude to penetration. I realized that I had been having penetration before I was really ready, and more often than I or my body actually wanted to. A fear of intercourse was also obviously a factor. A vicious circle of not being able to relax due to fear that intercourse would lead to cyctitis, and through inability to relax, more friction, less lubrication, more chance of inflammation and repeated infection).
It has been extremely frustrating for both of us but I'm happy to say that it has now been five months since I had an infection. I believe I have conquered cystitis now that I am more aware and in touch with my body and through honest communication with my boyfriend.

There truly is hope for IC patients. My daughter, now 22, suffered for four years before we finally got the diagnosis of IC. She did everything on the market at the time, finally doing the 9-week bladder instillations at Vanderbilt Hosp, which did not help. Her life was miserable. I finally found Dr. Russell Roby, in Austin, Tx, who believes that so many of these things are caused by hormonal imbalances and he successfully and regularly treats IC patients. We went to him, and he placed bio-identical hormones under her tongue, and instantly her pain was gone. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Her pain (7 out of 10) went to "0" within seconds. Do yourself a favor. If you suffer with IC, that is needless suffering. Please check this out. That was in January, 2006, and she has since married, graduated from college, and is living a full, normal, and very productive life. Please don't think this is a hoax or voodoo. There are sound medical principles that are in play here. Please go to www.robyinstitute.com and read up on what he does. It was a miracle that we never thought we would find. Karan

I am a regular sufferer of cystitis. It almost always occurs after sex, usually within 12 - 24 hours. I always make sure i am clean and wee after sex, but it still comes back !!! Its ruining my life. Its not the burning that bothers me as i can cope with that, its the constant overwhelming urge of needing the toilet that i cant stand, and its so embarrassing. The only thing i find that helps is pain killers and a hot water bottle applied on the area can also help numb the pain and bring relief, but doesnt cure the problem. My mum and sister are also regular symptoms of cystitis, so we thing that it may run in the family. I have talked things over with my partner and we have agreed to try different things during sex to try and reduce my chances of getting cystitis, he is very understanding and he is willing to help. I would reccommend always using a condom during sex, using a lubricant and weeing afterwoods. Also be careful not to have sex on a full bladder, as this can also cause cystitis.

I too have been suffering with this problem for a year in a half. I been to the doctors i dont know how many times just to be told the same thing drink lots water, canberry juice, wash myself after sex, urinate before and after sex. nothing works =( i dont know if any of you have what im experiencing i get cystitis like symptoms after sex but i have no infection to say that it is cystitis. my last 3 urine samples came back clear, iv had a urethra swob that came back clear. im currently waiting on some blood samples. i really am losing hope that they will find out what is wrong. the only thing that helps me get me through my day without needing the loo 20 + times, is taking one sachet of sodium citrate cystitis relief (which tastes so awful!!!)for any of you who turned to using a condom, did you just use it once and it cleared up or are you still using them? also, would anybody be greatful in telling me some tests they had so i can ask for them to help speed up this situation i am in.

I have had the same problem with recurring cystitis after sex, I had never had cystitis before but when my patner and I felt we were ready to make love for the first time togehter that is when I got it. I wasn't sure at first what my symtoms were so I did my research and found out that I had got "honeymoon cystitis!" which is where you make love a bit too much. Anyway I was diagnosed from the doctor, after having a urine sample done and blood taken and she confirmed it was cystitis. I was given antibiotics and I was on my way. After finishing the course of Antibiotics my symtoms returned again and again and again and always after making love. I got more antibiotics and now I just take one tablet before or after making love, which does work but I don't want to be doing that for the rest of my days! Does anyone think it is possible to just grow out of it??

you may have inflammatory cystitus, thats when after an infection it leaves that area saw and raw, i havn't had an actual bcterial infection in months but i can't get rid of the inflammation problem, sex has become so painful, its really putting a strain on my relationship. My cystitus has also led to vulvadynia which is pain or itching in the vagina which occurs due to stress or depression, the only stress i have is the fear of intercourse, so now nothing down there works properly and it makes you feel so frusterated and alone, im going to try latex free condoms and see how that work!

Hello Everybody. I have been suffering from Cystitis for a while, too. After some research I found this interesting web site: http://www.home-remedies-for-health.com/N2607...

It explains with very simple words the development of the disease, and it contains useful advices regarding prevention and alternative treatments, instead of relying only on the mainstream pharmaceutical solutions.

ever since I've been sexually active i've suffered from cystitis, sometime its absolute agony.
The only thing that provides a little relief is urinating after sex and drinking cystitis medcine as soon as I get home.
I will give the condom thing a try, hopefully it will work!

When I first started to have sex with my boyfriend i suffered from cystitis and went to te doctors so many times, and had about 4 urine tests. Some came back clear and some came back positive with cystitis. What helped me at the time was to take two strong pain killers, take a hot bath and drink lots of cranberry juice and water. The cranberry juice made me feel ill i dank so much. I have given up on going to the doctors as Ive tried 3 different antibiotics in the end after every time we have intercourse I urinate and the cystitis doesnt come back! I was so lucky that this worked for me because its a very painful and fustraiting thing to live with and interferres with your normal life!

I too have had recurring cystitis for about 4 years, last week I found a website for Sweet Cures of York, they have a product called Waterfall D-Mannose that I started using a week ago, just reading other peoples testimonials on that website has given me enormous confidence that I will be able to sort this problem out, already after 5 days of taking these tablets I feel alot better, please look up this website, they deliver worldwide

I am sitting here with a bout of terrible cystitis. I haven't actually had it for about 6 years because after having lots of bouts of it, I read this book by Angela Kilmartin, followed her plan to the letter and it cured it. now in a new relationship with clearly honeymoon cystitis, I hadn't bothered following the plan because I thought I had "cured" myself of the evil disease. Clearly not. I'm looking for the book but would really really recommend it to all of you suffering. I have realised that if you're prone to it, you have no choice but to never come off the plan. So miserable. Good luck!
