I am currently on Rozerem right now. The first weeks I was on it I had problems falling asleep right away and I would wake up constantly, but then my body adjusted to it and now I sleep wonderfully! Best decision I have made! Ambien is very addictive and causes a lot of sleep walking. I haven't noticed any sleep walking so far on Rozerem.

I was just given samples of Rozerem. My initial difficulty was falling asleep. The doctor told me to give it 3 days to work effectively. So far, it has helped me fall asleep but now seems to wake me up periodically during the night - wide awake! Has anyone else noticed this effect or do I just need to give it more time?
It makes me drowsy for about an hour then I can't sleep at all!!

Research Amitriptylin (also known as Elavil). It is $4 for 30 days. I believe it is actually an antidepressent. But will help sleep. 50mg works great to help me sleep, but try lower dosage. Can take long-term. Side affects they say can increase appetite, slow metablism which is why I am looking for something to replace it.
Something else you can try is Nortriptylin. It is part of the tricyclic anti-depressant class of drugs and as you can tell, is related to the Amitriptylin. You might look into the Nortriptylin as a possible swap. I ended up swapping it out after I started having issues with the Amitriptylin and some undesirable side-effects from it. I have actually been taking the Amitriptylin/Nortriptylin for pain management, not so much for sleep, but it can be very helpful for sleep, especially at the 50mg dose...(Of course, you may require a different dose should you actually try it, but my understanding was that the Amitriptylin/Nortriptylin dosages were interchangeable, but you would want to check with your Doctor, of course...

Please trust this 61 year old insomniac on this. Ambien will take your mind and your life if you continue using this drug. It is a very strong hypnotic drug. The company will eventually have lawsuits big time.

It is surprising that little mention is made of zaleplon, which really has distinguishing features from the other "Z" drugs:
1. Treatment of insomnia where difficulty in falling asleep is the primary complaint.
2. Does not interfere with sleep architecture
3. Effective in the treatment of middle of the night insomnia without causing residual hangover effects Contact pharmainfo@lotrain.com
Zaleplon is Sonata, another hypnotic.

I totally agree a class act law suit on ambien should be in place! I ALSO LOST MY MEMORY AND OTHER BRAIN FUNCTIONS.I was on it for 8 years and now been off for 6 months! My hair starting to thin incredably and my cognitive skills are awful. I pray that i will recover from this horrible long term use.

First of all doesn't anybody that has posted on here about rozeram in the last 5 1/2 years know how to spell or have a spell checker? Just a question. But anyhow took it for the first time and seemed to do the trick. No complaints but we'll see what happens from here on.

I have been taking ambien on and off for about one year. I fall asleep within 15 minutes but lately I have been experiencing horrible chest tightness and difficulty breathing the day after I take it. It gets progressively worse with each dose. Now my right arm is numb in the morning and my sinuses feel weird. I have to stop taking it, which is too bad, it works great but the long term side effects are terrible. Back to staring at the ceiling.... :(
