Ambien CR wins, hands down, in my opinion. Seems to me like Rozerem doesn't do anything

I have been taking the rozerem for a week now and my sleep has improved dramatically. I sleep better each night. Hopefully it will continue to work well. Good luck everyone on getting a good nights sleep.

I want to try rozerem or ambien. I tryed Lunesta and it left a TERRIBLE taste in my mouth. The only problem is that i have horrible nightmares when to heavly medicated. I had read somewhere that rozerem might give you nightmares. Has anyone experienced that or should i go with ambien.

Oh and I need more help falling asleep then staying sleep.... if that helps with anything.

I had been on Ambien for over a year and slept pretty well. I have a doctor that wanted to decrease it due to dependency and then he changed me to Rozerm. For the first few hours Rozerem did nothing for me, then, when I did fall asleep I had the scariest dreams I have ever had. I only took it that one night because I was scared of the dreams. What should I do? Ask for my Ambien back? I really was afraid of the dream thing..they were so real! I still remember them.

I have been trying a trial version of Rozerem and it really helps me to sleep and basically started right away with the first dose. At first, I did have some drowsiness the next day but this gradually got better. But I have been having really weird dreams. Not nightmares actually but very vivid and very active dreams. They are so weird that I frequently wake up from them. However I can go back to sleep again and usually do not have a repeat. Has anyone else experienced this? Just thought I would ask.
I've been having really weird, vivid dreams ever since I started taking Ambien to help me sleep. Before I had problems sleeping and never seemed to dream, but now that I am sleeping very hard I am having crazy dreams. I do however have a hard time remembering them unless they are really intense.

I have tried every presciption and OTC sleeping pills under the sun and, believe it or not, Tylenol PM (or generic) works best by far. People would be surprised how well the benadryl in Tylenol PM helps you fall asleep and stay asleep.

It takes Rozerem 2-4 weeks to start working. Ask your doctor or do your own research. You have to be patient with it. It is the only sleep aid drug that is not addictive. I have had sleep issues for years because I deal with chronic pain. I have been using rozerem for the past year and it has really worked for me. I have tried everything else including melatonin. It is expensive b/c there is not a generic. It is worth it to me to get a good nights sleep. I take it and then wait about an hour or so..then ready for bed. Good luck to all.

You tried to fly to the moon? That had me laughing! Thanks for the laugh, for this insomniac :-)

I have been taking Rozerem for a couple of weeks now. It' hasn't been that effective, yet. I am hoping that it kicks in soon. I have tried practically every prescription, OTC drug for insomnia over the past 15 years. I will say that for some people, including me... Ambien can be horrific. You build up a tolerance then end up taking more to get to sleep. After awhile it totally screws you up, you can end up taking it during the day just to not have withdrawal symptoms. It causes panic attacks and all sorts of CNS problems. The problem with Ambien is that it works so well, initially that it can become addictive. Once you start taking 15-20 mg or more a day your in trouble, b/c stopping it can cause you to go into withdrawal and your life truly sucks for 3-6 days with no sleep etc getting it out your system. I would tell everyone to stay clear of Ambien, try something else that works.

Robert,

I would say try it, a sample if you can get it, and see if you have any of the side effects, if not then it may work, if so then it has the least dependancy of all the presciption meds for sleep that I am aware of. I don't think you should be afraid. For me, I have been taking it for a couple of weeks, rather than be afraid of it, I am kinda irked, b/c I can't really tell it's doing anything, yet. I am hopefully, since my doctor and from what I have read it takes 2-4 weeks to become effective.

Does anyone elses insurance only pay for 20 days of this stuff? My doctor prescribes 30 days, Blue Cross/Blue Shield will only pay for 20 days out of 30. So with the $50 co-pay it really cost me $100 p/month, with insurance! I live in NC, does anyone have insurance that covers the full dose?

Thanks,

Paul

Over the past ten years. I have tried every sleeping remedy known to mankind. You name it,I've tried it. Initially, I was prescribd ambien when doc's were of the mistaken belief (and many still are)that it was different from benzos. It worked fine at first, but eventually I built up a tolerance and started having bad side effects. Then, I went from prescription to prescription trying to find something that worked.
Of all the pills that I have tried, the one I keep coming back to when I need to sleep, is Restoril. I have weaned myself off sleeping pills so that I don't have to take them every night, but just when I need them. If I take Restoril for more than a week, I gradually wean off it with the help of Valium. I manage to avoid the side effects of benzo withdrawal and have managed my insomnia this way for quite some time.
I had a hard time getting the Valium since doc's seem to think it's a dangerous drug. My experience has been that it is the most benign of all the bezos and very easy to taper due to its long half life.
A word of warning about using the anti-depressants for sleep. If you have any history of heart problems, be very careful. I have such a history and was prescribed Seroquel and wound up in the hospital with an irregular heartbeat. Except for the tolerance and withdrawal problem benzos are pretty safe for people such as myself. They can be very useful if used and managed properly, even in the long term.
Sounds like you and I could write a damn book on teh subject. Battling severe insomina for 15 years I know more about the drugs and the effects of them than any doctor I have every visited. Dealing with something like this everyday of your life, you become an expert in it, if you have the scientific aptitude.

Restoril [temazapam], works for me, initially, but with it's very short half-life, I quickly build up a tolerance and withdrawal becomes an issue. The non-bezo's like Ambien, Sonata, act just like short acting benzoes. I have tried them all, so I know personally.

Warning about Ambien - I got addicted to it. When I tried to stop it was AWFUL - 3 days/nights without sleep. I tried everything over the counter and nothing helped. I just had to suffer it out. I'll never take Ambien again -
I experienced the same thing. If you doctors were aware of this, probably aren't, but I am sure they know the name of the cute drug rep that gives them free dinners to get them to prescribe it, another topic... Basically all physicians that prescribe Ambien and other short acting bezo types should know how to treat withdrawal, by weening off it with a long acting benzo.
I wonder how many thousands of people of suffered horrifically getting off the likes of Ambien?? When if treated correctly would have been switched to something else that would have managed the withdrawal.

Sorry for posting so much on this thread. I just found it tonight, and if you can imagine it, I can't sleep :-(

I was just given samples of Rozerem. My initial difficulty was falling asleep. The doctor told me to give it 3 days to work effectively. So far, it has helped me fall asleep but now seems to wake me up periodically during the night - wide awake! Has anyone else noticed this effect or do I just need to give it more time?
This is my 3rd week on Rozerem. I have the same problem! I get to sleep then like 3 hours or so later im wide awake! I've heard Lunesta is good though, so i might try and get on that

I took Rozerem for the first time starting Sunday, 7/19, and had two of the worst nights ever in my life. Sunday night, I woke up at 2:00 am and could not get back to sleep. Last night, I woke up every 90 minutes like clock work. I am exhausted. The vivid dreams were actually interesting, but I need sleep. I have tried Ambien and Lunesta. I sleep OK (not always through the night, though), but I feel hungover all day after, usually with a piercing headache. Is there anything else out there?

Ernie,
I have been having the same issues. I started Rozerem on July 13th. I've felt extremely tired and hungover all day since then. Didn't really help me sleep through the night, either.

I didn't take one last night, just to see what would happen. I didn't sleep great, but I did sleep better than I had the entire last week.

No headaches or hangover feeling today either. I'm going to call my doc & see what he thinks.

I have been taking Ambien for over a year. I thought it was the greatest thing ever until I started doing things and eating things that I had no memory. I burned things in the kitchen and set off the some alarms and have no memory of it. I have eaten entire bags of snacks with no memory and lots and lots of peanut butter. Recently, I ask my wife if she found any wet swimming trunks in the house. She said no, why. I said that I had a very vaigue memory that I went swimming last night. When I later went to put the dog outside, there was a pair of my swimming trunks laying over the chair outside drying. Effective today I am done with Ambien and I am going to try rozerem. I feel Ambien is just too dangerous.

I have been on Ambien for almost 4 years and it is great for me...but my Doc switched me to Rozerem...first night...no sleep....then I read an earlier post and it said in effect to wean yourself off the current medication...so I have been cutting pills into portions...3/4 pill...for 4 nights...1/2 pill for 4 nights...tonight...I am going to 1/4 of a pill...I have not slept through the night...12, 2 and 4 am seem to be consistant as wake up times...and have interesting dreams, though nothing scary...12 and 2 am I am able to get back to sleep, but 4 am...it varies...sometimes yes...sometimes no...tonight is my 8th night taking this new stuff...I have never slept well...so hoping this is the answer...will check back later and give you a report

I took ambien for years and had always abused it never knowing what I did the night before! But ambien really does work if you can take as prescribed and have a routine bedtime. I have not tried Rozerem.

I became tolerant to ambien, and a coupple other sleep aids. I wanted to belive after detoxing and being off of it for awhile I could get back to the potency of the initial dose, but after lots of counseling, doctors oppinions and I'm studying to be a chemical dependency counselor the answer is : you will always be tolerant from now on. Your body knows that dose.
