female 53 years old . In 2007 discovered i was hypothyroid, I am on 25mcg. of synthroid. I took an ultrasound in 2007 that showed enlargement of right thyroid side, also said no cysts and nonfocal nodules. I was not told of this result for 3 years. My bloodwork for thyroid came back ok and was told to continue 25mcg. of synthroid, but ordered another ultrasound.what does non focal mean? I am scared to death,PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!!

Cheryl, I had a thyroglossal duct cyst in Feb, and had a complete spaz attack and researched everything I could. Thyroid issues are rarely cancer, and those rare pieces are rarely fatal. It is very curable, and easily treatable. Most likely they are referring to some random nodules that aren't anything, and don't indicate anything. The ultrasound is quick, and easy peasy. If you have to do a CT scan, that's even faster and easier.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi Cheryl and USMom,
My endo is gonna arrange for me to have a ultrasound scan of my thyroid in the next couple of weeks.
There does not appear to be an enlargement or goitre on the outside but I have a very funny feeling in my throat, like when your dying to cry and you get that lump.
I'm also very easily choked, like if I wear a scarf or top that covers my neck.
Do you think I could have a nodule, did either of you experience this feeling in the throat?:)

I am so amazed that we all are suffering from the same symptoms. I have been on Synthroid for 6 years. I have had gradual increases of dose over time. For the last 5 or so weeks, I have noticed my lymph nodes are swelled, extreme fatigue, face flused, heart racing, the feeling like "something is in my throat or my throat is being squeezed", and joint pains. My GP checked my thyroid levels last week and I was told "all is fine". I do not believe this. I know more is going on here, and I believe it is my thyroid. I am seeing my back specialist for joint pain to get some lab results (ANA & RA factor) on Wednesday of next week. They refused to give me that over the phone today. I have had enough of this. I am 49 and feel 99. I can't even enjoy my life at all. My daughter is getting married soon and the thought of being up and on my feet all day makes me a nervous wreck. I don't know if I can do it...

Jean, I'm so sorry you feel that way! I know it doesn't help much but you are not alone! I'm so sick of hearing how my thyroid levels are normal 'whatever' that is, all I know is I don't feel normal, I felt very normal 3 years ago before all this started happening! I was happy in work, always out having fun, out with friends! Yet now on some days I can't even lift my head off the pillow, the tightness in my throat, the aches and pains in my legs and back, the tiredness and constantly feeling cold - to me that is not normal. I do hope you feel better soon and have a good time at the wedding :)
