Sarah wrote: I have had so many of the questions posted here. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 7 months after my son Joseph was born. And for months I hadn't felt right and everyone kept saying it was because of the baby or going back to work or being older than when I had my last child (I was 27 when I had him and 34 now, NOT old). I am still symptomatic and on 75mcg of synthroid. Here is my problem/question: Did any of you have a reduction in symptoms and then a return? I am experiencing this now. Yes, I had that when my medication was a little too high for me. My doc cut my levels back and I began to feel like my old "normal" self again. Best wishes, Jerri

I have been on Levo for seven weeks, for the first five weeks I tried to eat healthy, cutting the fat eating more fruit and veg etc, but the weight did not budge. I started a low carb plan and in the last 10 days I have lost 8lbs. My hunger has completely gone. I got up yesterday and started daily chores and realised at about 12.30pm that I had forgotten breakfast, which amazes me as I was a complete carb junkie, hungry all the time. I will stick to this plan for life, I am doing protein Power, loads of veg and lower carb fruits,I make type of bread from almond flour which is a great substitute. I still drink too much red wine and don't like exercise, but hopefully that will change as I lose weight and feel fitter lol..

Hi.. I'm 27 female living in Houston, TX. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in 01-09. It's taken a toll on my life and recently became bulimic. I just want to be normal again and have the same life I did last year. I have been prescribed Synthroid, Levothyroxine and now on Armour Thyroid. Since taking these medicines I've gained 15 pounds and been more depressed than ever. I recently stopped taking Armour and trying to take Natural medicines but I still dont feel better. I just think the medicines are making me gain more weight. I also feel very hungry all the time even after I have small or big meals. UGHH what do I do, please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good luck to all!

I was diagnosed at 16, but my hashimoto's started at 13, according to all of my doctors I should have been long dead and I had the worst bloodwork they'd seen on a living person. My TSH was 140. I had every symptom as well as being severley iron deficient. It took me over a year to balance myself out on 125mcg a day. Initially I lost 16kg over a year, mostly in the last few months when I was allowed to exercise with out having heart monitors, etc. I'm 19 now and I've gained back 6kg but my weight is now steady as long as I keep on low-fat foods and exercise for an hour a day. Hunger is a big issue for me, in the months before i was diagnosed I could live off a tub of yogurt a day and not lose weight simply because my body was getting ready to die. It takes time to adjust and realise that what feels like hunger now is just a normal feeling for healthy people.

I was diagnosed at 18. My TSH was 210. I was still going to school - all my doctors were shocked that I wasn't in a coma.

That's one of the first thing my dr said to me too! I really had no idea what a big deal it was back then, I equated it to a chest infection or something. I'm kind of glad I didn't know just how close to death I was. I'm still mad at my mum for ignoring me when I told her about my chest pains, I was having mini heart attacks, and she told me to take some asthma medication and stop whinging.
