I'm very surprised that I did a search for iodine and ioderal and came up with nothing on this forum.
I am hypothyroid and I do not want to go on synthetic meds and I'm kind of grossed out about the Armour that comes from pigs, so I'm trying to heal my thyroid thru iodine.
I started taking Ioderal (3 tablets a day) about 6 months ago and I gave up drinking tea, which contains floride that blocks iodine absorbtion. In less than a month, I felt normal again (no hot sweats at night, no insomnia, etc). I even lost 10 lbs and got my period back (haven't seen it for 4 years - I just turned 43). THEN I started drinking my tea again (2-3 cups a day) and everything went back to the way it was before. This leads me to believe that my hypothyroidism is from a lack of iodine.
Has anyone else tried this with success? I just gave my tea up, again, and will see how it goes (again).

If your problem was really lack of iodine, and your measures worked, then, you should keep it up.

It's probably not discussed much here because most cases of hypothyroidism in developed countries are autoimmune destruction of the thyroid, which is actually hypothesized to be triggered by excess iodine. Iodine doesn't help when you don't have a functional thyroid.

Hi,
I have been on synthroid for almost three years and continue to gain weight eventhough I am an active person. My doctor is recommending I take a multi-vitamin that includes iodine. Has anyone other than Cheryl had success with iodine? If so, how long did it take for you to see results.

Thanks!
