Funny how the abortion rate actually went down in many of the states that rejected abstinence-only education. Proof that agenda-driven religious-based policies just don't work.

From: NYT Editorial: Behind the Abortion Decline

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/26/opinion/26s...

"Almost two-thirds of the decline in the total number of abortions can be traced to eight jurisdictions with few or no abortion restrictions — New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Illinois, California, Oregon, Washington State and the District of Columbia. These are places, notes the Guttmacher Institute’s president, Sharon Camp, that have shown a commitment to real sex education, largely departing from the Bush administration’s abstinence-only approach. These jurisdictions also help women avoid unintended pregnancies by making contraception widely available."

Kudos to the writer. Ab-only is ignorant/irresponsible. States should be applauded for focusing resources on programs that actually WORK. But the rightist fundies like the general population to be dumb, poor, and pregnant -- it makes the masses easier to manipulate and discourages them from voting. Wake up, America!

Are you all kidding me?? What is happening to this country? Why are we so hell bent on teaching our kids that it is A-okay to have sex whenever they want and however they want. "Here Honey...here's your condom...go have fun!!!! I hope you get luucckkkyyy!" Your kidding, right????? Where are your morals, your Christian principals????
You want to see the abortion rate drop...How about eliminate the murder of unborn fetuses altogether...that will make the abortion rate drop!!!!!!!! How about teaching our kids that sex leads to pregnancy???
I find it all appalling!

Teen pregnancy is lower than it has ever been. So what is "happening" in this country is some kind of progress apparently over what I assume is your much older generation's trends.

The reason teen pregnancy is lower is that teen girls are participating in sex other than plain old intercourse. Anal and oral sex are more prominent among teen girls than ever. Hence the lower pregnancy rates.

We have a fine example of 'foaming at the mouth' right here. I find you delusional.
