Joy, I travelled from Upstate NY to have Dr Burak do my Hip. Every mile was worth it. He is simply the best at what he does.I was back to normal in about 3 weeks. Had my surgery Dec 2011. I will eventually have my other hip done by Dr Burak. Good luck!

Bob, How many trips did you have to make to Dr. Burak's office all together? The distance and driving were issues for me, as I was separated from my husband and would have had to rely on my daughter. I'm wondering if I should get a 2nd opinion about my continuing pain (at top of thigh). It is very disabling, and I still limp. Thanks.

Joy,I originally sent Dr Burak my x-rays. He called me and said I was a canidate .I had Ostioarthritus. Flew down last November. Phelps Hosp was great and moved me thru my pre-op. Flew home that nite. Flew back to NY DEC 5 for next morning Surgery. 4 " scar and not 1 problem to date.Sent Dr Burak my 1 year x-rays and all is perfect. Could of been out in 2 days like my roommate but stayed 1 more day because I was from out of town. And I don't limp anymore.Dr Burak is great at what he does.

Well, add me to the chorus of people happy with Dr. Davidovitch at Hospital for Joint Diseases. I had both hips done two weeks ago. Now I can walk without a cane or crutches. There is just a little swelling left and some muscle tightness but other than that I feel amazing. These minimally invasive techniques really are the way to go if you are a candidate. I know some argue that all techniques will get you to the same place, but why not make the journey easier and faster if you can?

I am five days post op of a right hip THR anterior approach . I actually went to a Superbowl party last night. My friends were in shock. I can't imagine having it done any other way. My Dr. is Dr. Hoazack from The Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, PA I traveled from the beach in NJ, spent one night in the hospital and came home the next day walking steps with a cane! So far very happy. I am 54 years old and in great shape.

Has anyone out there in Birmingham had Dr. Featherhill do a anterior hip replacement??
I had one hip done in Ohio the old fashioned way and hated that 90 degree precaution. Want to look into the anterior version.

Yes, definitely cancel the tradional! Go with SuperPath if you have a surgeon nearby. There are only 5 surgeons who do it. I think the closest to you is Will Kurtz in Nashville. I cancelled anterior in favor of SuperPath, drove 4 hours from Atlanta for it and it was completely worth it. I was out of the hospital in 2 days, functioning without walker or walking stick in 10 days, driving at 12. No restrictions is huge.
If distance is a problem then go with anterior. Here is a comparison of the procedures:

Dr Chow in Phoenix is set up for a friday consult, Monday surgery, Wednesday discharge.
Which Dr. did you use? Do you know anything about the doc in Nashville?

<quoted text> Dr Elvis Gradic, west palm beach I was his first bi-lateral(both hips done at same time)using the superpath in march of 2011 .highly recomend if only having one done it would be a breeze. he has done hundreds of them.
Any other info about him?
I am wanting to go to Florida to have my right hip done.

I am a 54 yo woman, fairly active, sched for anterior approach in 6 weeks with Dr. Domb in Chicago. I specifically would like to know how much range of motion returned post op. I ride horses, and cannot do so without pain, but for the past year, I can hardly get my "bad leg" up over the horse (not a strength issue, but an impingement issue), and then straddling is an issue, as about 4 minutes into my ride, I am ready to stop. Will this be resolved somewhat with surgery? I also cannot cross my "bad leg" over (can do so just fine on the other side). And cannot lie at all on my affected side to sleep due to pain. any comments would be appreciated.

Deidra,
Assuming your post-surgical results are typical, none of the things you mention would be a problem after your surgery.

I I would like to share experiences with some one that had a hip and femur replacement.
I'm 38 and I had it done in 2010, and still in recovery.
I cannot do some movements because it already get out of the place 2 times!:-(. So I'm kind of "trap" in my house!
Is there anyone with some experiences live like mine?

THREE AND A HALF WEEKS AFTER ANTERIOR THR. I HAVE BEEN CLEARED TO DO ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. STARTED WEIGHT TRAINING AGAIN (SQUATS ARE TOUGH) HOPING TO BE BACK ON TOP SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.
HIP FEELS GOOD , BUT BACK HAS AN ISSUE ON THE SAME SIDE AS THE REPLACEMENT. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS ISSUE? IT FEELS TIGHT AND KNOTTED..... HAD A MASSAGE AND TRY STRETCHING, AND IT STILL ACHES... ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Adrianna,

Going to see Kurtz tomorrow for a consult. Can you tell me how many SuperPath procedures he has done? Also how has your procedure worked out? Anything else I should be aware of?

My back also aches...(lower portion) and extends down to my legs. It isn't all the time....but it can really be difficult when I stand for awhile (and I mean a short while)
I had my replacement in March of 2011

I had bilateral hip replacement six weeks ago today. It was much harder than I imagined, but I was off the walker & cane by week 3. I started physical therapy this week & I'm much better than before the surgery. Thank goodness for this technology.
