I am 34,an industrial mechanic with 2 hip replacements.I will not be able to tell you if you
can do that type of work again.I did go back into
mechanics for a year, but only part time.It was really hard at times.I had to stand all day and had
very bad pains in my legs occassionally to the point
I had to stop working for a few minutes.I moved from
NJ to FL,where I have yet to find a job I can physically do.I am so scared for my future.Sometimes
the pain I get in my thighs and knees is so bad that I can't even walk.It feels almost as bad as the bone on bone pain before the surgeries.Am I alone here with this pain I'm experiencing?

Your not alone Paul.I am 34 and am experiencing the same pains.I am (was) an industrial mechanic.I did
work for a year as a mechanic, but not without complications.I was hired as a field tech.,but it was too much on my legs to carry the tools from job to job,so I had to work in the shop only.My wife and I moved from NJ to Fl.Now after a year without finding a job,I'm so scared for my (our)future.SSD
has cut me off and we are really going down fast.I
tried a job,but the walking to and from the different buildings killed me.I am only good in a shop environment.I have never been so scared in my
life.I feel almost worthless.

I had both hips replaced 4 years ago. Since that time I have contiunued to expierence pain in my thighs. My surgeon told me my hip replacements were healing nicely and he could not tell me what was causing the pain in my thighs - all but said not his problem. I have had every test run known to the medical profession- they all show I am in excellent physical health - which is a very good thing - however it does nothing to releive the pain in my thighs. The doctors all but infer I am neurotic and am just looking for a reason to have another surgery/test/etc. - and that I am obviously depressed. I have been unable to find any pain medication that works and usually makes me sick. I am relieved to find that I am not the only one experiercing this pain. I have tried accupuntcure, chriropractor, pain management- all of whom want to run more tests to no avail. I work in an office so it has not caused me to be unable to work but it has certainly taken away any enjoyment in life. I would really like for the physicians to take a closer look at this problem and find a resolution.

Karen, what is it with these doctors? I had my replacement May 25 and have intense pain on weight bearing and can't even walk yet. He KNOWS that I bled into the hip cavity and there is fluid there, and blood that has coagulated and is stuck, yet he won't do anything about it. Says it will "go away" eventually. I actually think this is the first time he's had anything go wrong and he's perplexed about what to do. So he's doing nothing. I've also been doing acupuncture, 4 times, and so far no relief at all. In fact, it's worse. Funny, I didn't read ANYTHING about replacement surgery backfiring when I was deciding whether to do the surgery or not. Wish I had.

I had a THR 9 weeks ago and actually was doing better a couple of weeks ago. Now I have knee problems and terrible thigh pain. I go for a MRI tomorrow. Does your leg still hurt?

I had hip replacment on May 15. After 2 months I was better than I am now. I am also experiencing terrible thigh pain and clicking and clunking when walking. My doctor says that usually your bones bend when walking and now the shaft in the femur prevents it from bending and the end of the shaft is irritating the bone and eventually the bone will "get used to it". I don't know I feel that something else is wrong. Glad to hear that there are others with thigh pain.

I assure you probably had the stryker triden hip. There is a problem with the product, but Stryker has yet to admit it. There is a class action suit against styker for patients to receive payment for x-rays and follow-up treatment until they find a cause. The squeaking will get worse and the popping will go to grinding. Sorry to say but that is the sad truth.

No, I continue to have limited mobility and PAIN, and I too, have not been able to return to my job, medical assisting. I have to change positions often, can't stand too long, can't walk too long, can't sit too long, can't lift alot of weight. So, what am I to do for a living? Luckily, my bf and I are trying to start a business that I can do on my own body's terms.

I am 50 year old carpenter who had my left hip done at age 40 i go to the v.a. on feb1 to find out about the right one i have alreadty done all the shots pills exercise et. etc. b.s. adnausem so we all know whats next on to your problem you have developed a set of skills along with your carpentry that can be more profitable than banging nails ( i love banging nails it sucked at 40 I was in my prime ) you can estimate plan jobs hire subs and take your base construction knowledge and sell jobs learn how to mark up trades etc. and then go build something it will work if you have the confidence to sell yourself and your knowledge.

--I had my THR in 12/06 for AVN. I am suffering the same way with pain in the groin and down the thigh just like a dagger. I too have to get the other hip replaced eventually. Do you have a Stryker implant? There are problems with the implants. What does your doctor say about the pain?

Someone below mentions Farabloc. Have you tried this for your pain? I am an amputee who uses Farabloc to relieve stump pain and phantom limb pain. I have used this for years. Now I am using Farabloc for other types of pain, such as shoulder pain and lower back pain.

Farabloc is simply a clothing item that you wear on the painful area. It is enmeshed with steel fibres, which somehow "blocks" out the higher pain frequencies.

You can learn more about this at their website, where you can also purchase a wrap or blanket for natural pain relief.

Hope this helps. Here's the website:

Good luck!

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Libra

An emotional situation is as clear as mud today. You aren't sure about your feelings for a certain someone, nor are you convinced that you know what they're playing at. They may be saying one thing and doing another, and you might even suspect that they're playing games with you or trying to get what they can out of the relationship. Or maybe you're imagining the whole thing? Admit it - at this stage you simply don't know.
