Hi! My 70 year old dad is planning his hip replacement surgery for winter in North Carolina because that way he will be back golfing when summer rolls around. Winter's are usually not that harsh there, but I'm wondering if the cold days and possible storms will adversely affect his rehab. Any thoughts? Thnx

Best time could be summer when you could avoid icy walking conditions which might result in a fall.

Both seasons have its own advantages and disadvantages. With the help of a medical professional, you can identify what is best suited for you. With the right information, perhaps hip replacement issues like what I read here can be avoided.

I had bilateral hip replacements-1 in the fall+1 in
Winter. The winter one was harder as far as rehab.
We had a lot of snow+ice+it was pretty scary
walking, especially in the first few weeks.
The total hip done in the fall was much better as
far as being able to walk daily for stamina+exercise.

You should ask your fatherís doctor for medical advice on when is the safest and most efficient time that the surgery will be performed. It also depends on the urgency of the operation. Anyhow, aside from the best season for your fatherís operation, you should also consider the risks of hip replacement surgeries. The doctors as well as the patients should however make sure that the medical devices to be used in treatments are safe unlike the defective DePuy Hip Replacement device of Johnson&Johnson. It has already affected a number of patients. Seek medical advice for more information or you may visit .
