3 years ago I had some sort of spasms right in the soft spot between chest. They progresed to about 8 a minute and I went to ER.... They did not know what it was, gave me the chalky drink with lots of valium. Made it to sleep finally and when I would felt like i was severly bruised in that soft spot.
Next nite work with instant acid problems from hell. On a scale of 1-10 for me, I was never worse than a 2 for all of my life. After the spasms I was an instant 8-9. The attacks would wake me and were severe. I mean felt like I had drank battery acid. I had to start prilosec 2 times a day, once was not enough.
Just now looking for answers as now my roof of my mouth always feeels strange.
Maybe acid aggravating it?
Does this sound more like a HH or more like Galbladder trouble? I hve never read a post that was like mine on that first nite. I mean to me what happened was so very distictive. These little spasms felt like a cross between high electrical shock and acid burning.
I now do also have the burn, i mean a lot of burn the ithe right side muscle along mid spine to about shoulder blade hightgh.
Teh only other thing in my life that seems related is that for about 12 years, about 2 times a year, I will wake and be sick beyond words. So sick you dont want to move. It is honestly a sickness that scares you. I found phenergan taken immediatly when i wake lik ethis, controls it. So far everytime.
I will litteraly wake and be not moving and in a 5 second time frame go into a sweat that will make me absolutly soaking wet. Besides this, have never had any form of sweats.
Before I found the phenergan works, I could not stop convusing. Only time I have ever been in an ambluance what thru one of these attacks. I was throwing up bile thru it. IT was hell. But at least I have a solution with the phenergan,
Does that sound more like a galbladder?
Could this be both.... The attacks almost never come more than 2 in a year. sometimes only 1 and I think only one year with 0 since they started about 13 years ago.
I have never been to the doc about it as I am one that never goes till I am almost dead.
The reason I must go now is the roof of my mouth, and my breath is bad now and never was before the 3 year ago spasms.
I can say the attack 3 years ago, the spasms, were nothing at all like the 13 year sick attacks. The spasms did not make me sick at all.
It just felt like acid and electricity was about to burn thru that area where the soft spot is...

Heather, I've just been diagonosed with a very large hiatal hernia. They said it is the size of my stomach, and that my stomach is in my chest cavity. Did you have your surgery in Austin? Who did it? Any help you could give me would be very much appreciated.

Dear Barb, Mine is this large too, but no symptoms other than occasional anemia from stomach ulcers, secondary to the HH. I eat small meals about three hours apart, take Vitron (iron coated with Vit C). and eat extra foods with iron when I get short of breath from anemia. I am holding off on surgery to date, because of the side effects that I have read about, such as reflux (which I do not have now), and the possibility that the surgery would have to be done again at some future date. Just my experience. Vesta

I was diagnosed with HH a couple of years ago but told by the doc that surgery would make it worse and denied...
I take Lansoprosol (Zoton Fastab brand) once a day and that stops the acid... i def. recommend it to anyone suffering.

I had my first baby 6 months ago and along with that I had a epidural. I just assumed that the unbearable back pain that I have had since then was from the epidural. The only way that I can describe this undying pain is like i had a knife stuck in my back and my lungs were punctured. I could only sleep on my knees hunched over a big pillow. Gasping for small breathes not to make the pain worse. I can not even pick up my new baby. Life has been completely altered. Can not sleep when pain at its worst. Only 3 - 500 mg tylenol has been the only thing to dull the pain until a few weeks ago I saw a Dr. she ordered a bunch of x-rays and gave anti-inflamatory (steroid) injection. This injection lasted a few weeks, she also ordered physical therapy but after the injections and wishful thinking I declined the physical therapy. Wished I hadn't because as soon as the injection wore off, the pain was back in full force and then some.. Long story short, today I saw another Dr. who tried to put me on Methadone based on my description of the pain. I kindly declined and requested a referral to Physical medicine as they are the only ones able to order MRI... I am so afraid that it's more than the hiatal hernia.. But I pray that it is something that I can do something about. **Steroid injections and acid reflux..prevacid 2 x's a day are my ticket until I see Physical medicine. At least I can sleep at night..and hold my baby.

I am 26 years old and also have a HH,which was discovered after many awful tests :O((. I am due for laproscopy surgery next week due to terrible chest pain and years of suffering!! I have had reflux problems since I was a child which have only gotten worse in adult life. I suffer from upper/lower back pain and severe chest pain ( 90% of the time :O(...) I feel sick when I eat certain foods and have difficulty sleeping!! I live on Omeprazole and Gaviscon advenced everyday which is now part of my everyday life :-((
I was told that if I didn't have the op then I would have to live like this for the rest of my life and that as I get older I may also suffer from other problems such as cancer.
I am very frightened about the op as I am only young and have two young children. I am worried about how I will be able to eat afterwards?? how long it will take to recover?? I was told a few weeks by my doctor but my surgeon told me more like a year before I am feeling back to normal??
Will keep everyone posted on how I get on and if it helps!! x

Has anyone having a hiatal hernia not eating a lot and still not loosing weight. I am a little over weight, for the past 2-3 years I have not had a appetite, I am never hungry. I eat very little, everyone says they can't believe I am not losing weight no more than I eat. Also with the acid reflux I have a pain in my right shoulder. I see the surgeon on Friday.

I had a double procedure done 4 weeks ago,a Hiatus hernia fix and a Gallbladder removal. All were successful and no problems. It was keyhole surgery and i now have 5 scars from the operation and 1 hole from the drip. I had really bad pains from the Gallbladder for about 10 years and never knew what it was....i got private medical insurance here in Spain about 1 year ago ,it was diagnosed a Gallbladder that was full of stones and will have to be removed.I also had stomach problems for the same amount of time and i thought it was related (turned out it wasn't) so after 1 month of tests for both problems i underwent surgery and now am so happy....no pilss for the stomach and no horrible pain from the disfunctional Gallbladder..Only 1 problem i do have now is,i can't burp....so fizzy drinks are a problem and my favourite drink beer is a slow drinking proccess. Does anyone have a solution to the no burping???

I had surgery for a large hitial hernia a year ago.
It was a long recovery however I do not have the pain but i have a lot of gas which nothing seems to work. I found it very interesting that a lot of comments and reviews are experiencing a lot of left shoulder pain which I have had in the past two months and nothing seems to relieve the pain. Also since the surgery my stomach swells and exercise will not help. I dont regret having the surgery because it was a necessity. I had two severe attacks and was taken to the emergency room and was given morphine to relieve pain.

I had a the surgery last month and I regret ever having it. I cannot eat without feeling like the food is stuck in my throat which then causes me to vomit. Yes I am still able to vomit, burp and hiccup all of which hurt to do. I have lost almost 15 pounds and I'm weak and have no energy. I cannot drink anything with ice because the intense cold causes my throat to go into painful spasms, which I've already been admitted to the hospital for. I suffered from severe acid reflux for years and would rather be dealing with that than this. I am 27 and other wise healthy. Has anyone else had these problems and if so when does it stop? I'm starving and I'm tired of eating warm applesauce. Also I still have the shoulder pain. The surgeon told me it may never go away. It's caused from the disruption of the diaphragm. Just another pain I'll be living with. If your planning on having this surgery please talk to your doctor about all side effects because my doctor told me nothing....

Gallbladder is normally pain on the right side beside shoulder blade.

Well if anyone is still reading this since its 2011.

I have been having a really difficult time. Out of no where a couple months ago. I started by waking up every morning feeling sick to my stomach and then it would go away. Not long after I would feel sick to my stomach all day until I ate something and then it would subside but only for minutes and then I would feel nauseated all day. Then one day I started getting this feeling as if something was stuck in my throat, sometimes it felt like food and sometimes it felt like a hair ball and pain between my shoulder blades. THis went on for a while until finally whatever was stuck in my throat turned into to start burning my throat and my throat was constantly burning, like a burning breath would enter my throat every time I breathed and when I would breath out it was burn and hurt. I felt like I was poisoned it hurt so much. Went on Zantacs which seemed to work for like 3 days and by the 4th day I ended up with severe burning nausea in my stomach and then up into my oesophagus and throat. It was so painful, I went to the hospital and was on Pantoloc.

Pantoloc was the death of me, I was always in abdominal pain, oesophagus felt a bit better along with the a few things but just looking at food make me sick. I had no interest in food nor an appetite. I lost 35 pounds because of it. I decided to stop the medication and do of a more herbal treatment.

I was just told I am going to for an endoscopy and my blood test for H-pylori came back positive so I have to do the breath test. SO I can not take any suppressors or medications.

Now I feel a lot of pain between my shoulder blades. Like its going through from or to my oesophagus. My oesophagus seems to hurt as well as my sternum. I feel kind of like it burns a little and as if someone has taken it out beat it up and put it back in. The pain from my upper back can be awful. Jaw pain as well.

I dont know what I have. I hope its a hiatus hernia and not oesophagus cancer. Or something completely different.

With all these symptoms I will come back let know what it is but would love to hear some ideas.

It is about 4:30am and I am sat up in bed again with chest pain, stomach pains and burning pains in my back. Two nights ago I called the NHS helpline and they sent an ambulance out to see me! I am exhausted all the time as I don't sleep from about 12:00 to 5:00 in the morning. Everyone who has posted a comment I can relate to and will be going to my doctor asking him to check if I have this hernia. I can't stand the pain I have anymore, I am medication to control the acid in my stomach, Zantac, Andrews and Gaviscon Advance.....nothing helps!! Before reading your post I have discovered what feels like a small lump between my breast bone and if I press there it hurts. I just want to feel normal. Tomorrow I will feel like I have been in a fight, I will ache and even my jaw aches.....!
