Polypropylene is "rejected" by a large percentage of patients. It should be removed. See one of the surgeons mentions. See Dr. Kevin Petersen in Las Vegs as one example of someone to call.

This mesh is not YET on the recall list by the FDA but should be! Has anyone else had this implanted and removed because of complications? I just about died from this eroded mesh. The DR. said it failed and no choice left but to have open surgery for removal. We just didn't know how bad it was. 4-mos to recover, 17 days in hosp., feeding tube, etc. I'd like to hear from others with the same type.
Lisa,
Please contact me ASAP. I currently have this mesh and I am going to the doctor this week to find out why I am having so much pain. Please contact me!

Anyone that has information. I am very concerned about my mesh. I am going to get the product name and code in just a few minutes. I had an incisional hernia repair Jan. of 2005 with a 10 x 14 inch mesh. I have had a spot just under one of my ribs that is a constant irritation and sometimes if I move wrong it gets hung up. I talked to my surgeon about it a few months ago and he said that when ever I am ready. He will take me under and look at it. He never said anything about recalls. I am a divorced/ sole supporting parent of four children and do a lot of lifting in my career. That was part of why the mesh was used in the first place. I have been looking up about different complications. But in the last week, I am having increased symptoms of complications. I meet with my primary tomorrow. What other information do I need to have before and/or after surgery? Thank you for your time.

I had hernia surgery 10 years ago. The Dr used the Kugel Marlex mesh patch. Last year at work while attempting to lift a very heavy object it felt like the patch tore. I've been seeing different Drs. who won't even listen to me about it. They keep looking others places such as my hip. I have the operative report from the hospital where I had the surgery done (I live in a different state now) and I cannot tell much from the report. In fact one Surgeon told me in May of this year when I brought up the patch failing said and I'm quoting "Thats Impossible". I'm at my wits end as to what to do. I can't live my life, work, play do anything without being in constant pain. I've gone to the FDA's website and being a computer dummy cannot locate the afore mentioned "Adverse forms" my email is [email protected] if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what to do it will be appreciated.

Just found out that I too have a marlex mesh that is eroding and have what the surgeon said something caught in it (this is not the surgeon who did the surgery back in 1996.) I do know that bard manufactured that cat # 011266 they put a 0 on ithe end and is being manufactured under that cat #'till 2009 . You are not alone. I thought that they had expanded the warning to mesh with out rings. I will need surgery and have already had PARTIAL BOWEL REMOVAL LAST YEAR RIGHT AT THE SIGHT OF THE PATCH , BUT THE PAIN WAS THERE NOT TO LONG AFTER SURGERY i WAS TOLD IT WAS HEALING AND WENT WITH THAT NOW I KNOW DIFFERENTLY.
My surgeon says it can't be removed I am reading that people have had it removed will need to seek more help.

Cynthia, You have 2 different sets of numbers. You have to also gather the other one that has numbers combined with letters on it. When you first had the surgery, the surgeon most likely place the sticker from the package he used on the "operative report", get that info. My symptoms were w/o pain. I just couldn't hold food down for 2 years - which I thought was stress. But after exams they saw the true problem was the mesh and I had no choice but to have it removed. I had another surgery 8 months ago for scar revision and hernia removal from the same area they had to cut me open and remove the mesh. Talk to an atty when you get the info from the operative report. Best of luck to you.
I noticed your post trumpets jacksonville, are you in florida and did you have your mesh removed in Florida? I need mine out and would like to avoid flying halfway across the country to do so.

Thanks,
Alex

also - how are you feeling since its been removed?

Just so you will know, I am recommending two surgeons who were on the list of the student advisory panel at Case Western Reserve. A group of medical students recommending top surgeons for problems: Dr. Peter S. Billing in Edmonds, WA and Dr. Shirin Towfigh at Cdear Sinal in LA

For everyone who's had ANY complications from the Bard mesh patch, you should know that there is a full class action lawsuit going on right now, and you should step forward and claim your deserved compensation.

These types of things make me sick and the manufacturers need to pay for what they've done to people. You can get a link to the free consultation on this well written article I found

Does anyone have information on Dr. Billing's competency and capabilities?

I had Bard Mesh used on a repair of a bi-lateral hernia circa July 2004. I am certain that one side has now failed. I am having lots of pain when sitting; and I am sure that my sperm duct is squeezed - especially during erection.

My email is [email protected]

I thank you for any help you can provide.

This site talks a lot about the problems with mesh perhaps it has been posted here already. I am new to this site. I have problems with a hernia repair and I believe the mesh is the problem with pinch and poking frequently if I walk for any more then 2 hours. If I walk then I have radiating pain as well across my abdomen but mostly on the left side where the hernia was repaired.

I am giving this report as an update to my earlier posts. Hopefully, my experience can help others to make a more informed decision.

I had surgery yesterday. The objectives were two: 1) to remove my old mesh, and 2) to repair a bilateral hernia that recurred.

After the surgery, the surgeon informed me that the mesh had rolled up into balls on my left side; and that removing them was like removing tumors. On the right side, the mesh looked like it was a good repair; and he was able to remove about two-thirds of it. He left one third of it because it was deeply embedded in the muscle tissue and he said he could not tell the difference between the muscle tissue and the mesh.

Interestingly, he said that my hernias were 'clinically small' and that he repaired the hernias with sutures (rather than using any form of mesh). This is interesting because my previous right-side hernia was of significant size - apparently, my hernias had partially healed.

The partial healing is perplexing to me. Was this healed via scar tissue? If so, will this repair hold? The doctor said there was lots of good tissue to suture and he thought I would have about 5 to 10% chance of recurrence.

The mesh had been installed using the Liechenstein (sp?) method. This is (from what I understand) a procedure where the mesh is sutured to the surrounding tissue. Unfortunately, the fact that the mesh shrinks and aver of 35% suggests that the sutures will not hold.

With Best Regards,
- Dave Jewett

Hi Alex, Yes, I'm in Florida. I had mine removed here by no other choice. I'm doing much better. That was in 2008. In 2 weeks, I'll have another scar revision surgery and some scar tissue removed. My tummy looks a lot better. I am still disappointed not to see this type on the FDA recall. I did file a complaint. Very best of luck to you. Lisa@ [email protected]

Darlin' you're a little slow. That was last year.

This is the latest FDA "warning" http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/SafetyInfo...

and this is where you can report your "event" i.e. problem
