while it is so sad that a man had lived for 22 years with HIV and managed the disease only to be struck down with hep c-doesn't this indicate that there is an even greater risk for the FINK'S patients to have contracted HIV as well as hep-c. what on earth is going on???? should this also have been boldly stated by the OPMC since they knew about the lawsuit and subsequent settlenet of close to a million dollars. why bother reporting any dirty doc if this is what they do?

The HIV weakened Peter Cicero's immune system to the point that the Co infection with hep C did more harm to the liver .

Is Finkelstein still practising medicine and, if so, why is NYS allowing this potential threat to public safety to continue?

Let's be real. Hep-C can lay dormant for so many years, and the overwhelming likelihood is that this guy contract it through his own lifestyle, which may have included drug abuse and sharing syringes. The much greaster likelihood is that Finkelstein infected someone else with this guy's blood.

In any case, Finkelstein shoudl loe his license for these dangerous practices.

This just proves that the surface of this scandal has just begun to be scratched. What a shame that Peter Cicero had to suffer. Yes, his immune system was compromised from his HIV infection, but the "doctor" was made aware of that fact and he still made the conscious decision to not use safety precautions. Where did that multi-use vial end up? Where was the compationate, caring doctor that we have heard about by both his former patients and his own statement? Sounds like Dr. Finkelstein started his own holocaust.

does anyone know why the big media giants ie 60 minutes dateline etc as well as NY Times are not spending anytime reporting this. no knock on newsday but this deserves more investigationa dn action than newsday can provoke. this is a very local story while it is just indictive of the opmc practices and they cover the entire state where i am sure there are plenty of other bad docs practicing a variety of bad conduct

What is this now, the 100th article about crazy Harvey and his tainted syringes? When is this guy going to the slammer? When are all the others that protected him going to the slammer? But first and foremost, pull his license to practice and fire the rest of the slugs involved..county and state level.
I'd rather go to Borneo and see the Medicine Man !

Have you been tested? How amazing that you can draw the conclusions that his "lifestyle" attributed to his having hep c!!!. Doctors dont even know this. WOW a guido from franklin square is a genius.......lol.VOR it is evident you have never had anyone close to you contract hepc. Most people dont know where it came from. Doesnt matter where you contracted it from you idiot...no one should die from it or have to endure the painful treatment.
By the way HAVE YOU BEEN TESTED? Wouldnt it be ironic if you tested positive??? Read up on it before you make any more ignorant comments that hurt people.(Payback is a bitch!!!)

He's not even admitting he did anything...there is no "why" for him.

You're kidding right? He's admitting to NOTHING. And neither are the other slugs involved in this cover up.
This has been going on far too long-and too many people are now infected with either Hep C or HIV...Everyone that ever went to Dr. Harvey should get tested for both.

This man needs to be an example for all doctors - you breach your hippocratic oath and you are punished. He needs to lose his license, he needs to face his accusers and he needs to feel the consequence of his actions. He needs to know that he will not be able to practice medicine anywhere again. Also, why don't the insurance companies who paid for these procedures get reimbursed? The threat of losing money already collected should be another deterrent.
He isn't the first doctor to breach the oath and probably won't be the last, but hopefully his example will prevent all those even thinking of cutting safety procedures and corners that lead to potentially harming patients to think twice.

This is only the beginning here. I worked in the medical sales industry and let me tell you MOST doctors I encountered were money first. Many of them were so cheap that they did a lot of short cut things to save $$$ like this. I knew doctors that cut their urine test strips (that cost about $1) in half down the middle to get 2 tests out of them!!!

In addition many of them would run medically unnecessary tests to make $$$. If the insurance pays for it, they do it. They would also run their own clinical labs where they would profit from ordering unnecessary tests, and often had poorly trained buffoons running the machinery.

So in the end, the medical industry is all about money first, and patients second. These doctors are also paid off by the pharmaceutical industry.

Yes, Michael, you owe it to all of us to divulge the names of the offenders. Otherwise, you are no better than anyone else who stood by and didn't say a word about Dr. Finkelstein's actions. How many other patients have been infected by other doctors and their unsafe practices? Don't be silent, please contact OPMC!

Where did he get HEP c? The same place he got HIV 22 years ago. If he got HIV, he could have gotten Hep C from any of his behaviors (such as anal sex which may have blood to blood contact). Sorry but they are just looking for money. Ridiculous. He posed more of a risk to other patients with his high risk behaviors (and the dr reusing syringes) than the risk posed to himself.

He only tested positive for Hep C after his injections by Dr. Finkelstein. Also, he won an award of close to $1 million because of Finkelstein's negligence - he was partially paralyzed. The question still remains - who was the next patient to receive an injection from the multi-use vial after Peter Cicero?
There may be some patients who test positive for Hep B/C or HIV and didn't get it as a result of Finkelstein's negligence, but Finkelstein is the one under the microscope right now and it has been proven that he used unsafe practices. He will be the one to pay. Justice? Maybe not, he is just going to lose his license and his livelihood, but his only concern for his mortality will be running into a former patient or their family members - God help him!

my apologies. However, any behaviors high risk behaviors such as anal sex do run the risk of trasnmittal. So even if he tested -, he could have gotten it from something other than Finkelstein's practices concurrently.
