Draining a thrombosed hemorrhoid

Two days ago and on the last day of my summer holiday i strained whilst going to the loo. Afterwards there was a sudden onset of really bad pain. I couldnt sleep and laid in agony. Then the flight home made it worse. When i got home i took a mirror and frightened myself stupid. A blueish lump the size of a walnut.
I went to the Doctor first thing today. It was diagnosed as an external thrombosed hemorroid. I can barely walk. The pain has turned my mouth to the taste of metal i feel sick with it. I have creams and ibuprofen. The Doctor made no mention of this thing bursting and after reading all the comments im terrified. Sharing everyone's experiences has helped me a lot. I thought i was being a baby wanting to have a good old cry with the pain and im feeling really sorry for myself. The Doctor told me to take bed rest for a few days. Im due back at work on monday after my leave. I really dont want to tell my boss what my problem is. I work on a medical ward as a nurse so its not as if i can use jargon that they wont understand, but the thought of doing a twelve hour shift on my feet just aint going to happen the way i feel now and any person off sick has to have a "back to work" meeting to discuss your illness and the possibility of it recurring. Charming !!

Oh my Sheilz and Marie - you two really have it bad. I don't understand why the medical world hasn't come up with something more helpful for those of us suffering from hemorroids. When mine finally cleared up, the doctor said .......I wonder why you got that in the first place.......I have no idea, but it makes me determined never to allow myself to be contipated again. If I ever feel the beginning of another hemerroid it would make me weak in the kness, and I know it would take a lot to muster up all I'd need to go back to that tedious routine of stitz baths and ice cubes. Let's us know how you are doing and use the forum to get all the support you need. We really can say we know how you are feeling.

Thanks, Ann. Mine has shrunk down a bit again, but is still painful. It is not even close to as bad as my experience a year and a half ago when I was pregnant. I do have a cream left over that my doctor gave me after she drained the hemorhoids, and when the pain gets really bad I put that on. It numbs the area and I can at least function, but if it gets any bigger or worse there is nothing that can help me. So, I am religously applying the cream and praying it stays at a reasonable size and then goes away completely. These things are no joke.

Well, here I am again! And I am NOT happy about it either! I wrote about my previous hemorrhoid situation a few weeks ago and that horrible external hemorrhoid I had for months that finally popped open. Now I am again sitting with my feet up, put some Prep H suppositories up my butt because now I feel like I have an internal hemorrhoid!!! I can't believe it! I started noticing it when I was working out on the bike at the gym. I felt a very uncomfortable pressure up in there and I was hoping that it wasn't another! Please GOD not another! I went number two today and it felt like I was ripping some skin up in my colon and I wiped and saw blood! I am praying this one will not last six months like the last one. For those six months I was sometimes bed-ridden and could barely walk to class. I probably looked like a ho at school who just got done in the ass! I hated it! I just started a new workout routine, I want to get a part time job and I go back to college in August. What helps an internal hemorrhoid?!! I seriously need some help this time. I just want to stop worrying and thinking about my butt 24/7. I feel that genetics are to blame for my condition because both of my parents regularly get hemorrhoids and my sister has it too! If you are still around Ann, I would like to hear from you.

Wow Anonymous, how awful for you. I don't know what I can offer at this point. I wonder if that Prep H is doing more harm than good at this point. I have no experience with internal hemorroids at all, and the external one hasn't come back. I make sure I do not get constipated at all. It's good to see that through all this pain your sense of humour is still there. I'm sorry I have no suggestions at all. Anyone else have any opinions about using the ointments? I'll be thinking of you hon. Good luck.

I know that this site gets regularly spammed by people wanting to sell their products for hemorrhoids and I am certainly not one of those people. I have posted here before about my experiences with roids. However, the cream my doctor gave me in the office after she cut and drained my hemorrhoids has been my saving grace this time around. It is called nupercainal. Look it up on Amazon and you can find it there and reviews from honest to god people who have used it. It may not make the roids go away, but it will seriously numb your butt so you can at least function. When my doctor gave it to me she told me it keeps skin tissue soft and helps prevent the hemorrhoids from getting bigger. That is my suggestion, and I swear I am not trying to sell that product since you can do your own research to see it is a legitimate product out there and not spam.

Yes, and it worked fine for me. However, I wouldn't recommend it unless you really know what you are doing. Here is a link to the procedure. I generally followed it. Again, I don't recommend it for everyone.

Follow up...Used foam and cream from doctor. Seriously reduced now. Still there, but gone down considerably. Hopefully it will go away completely soon.

Thanks Ann, you're the best. You are great for me and all of these people who are suffering. Lord knows we are suffering with these horrible nuisances that are constantly on our minds. I am so careful with my behind now but I need to get some Metamucil to keep regular and not stopped up at all. I prayed to God that this hemorrhoid would not be as bad as the last because I am trying to progress in my life right now. And actually, hopefully, it doesn't seem as bad as the other night:) The Prep H helped the pain TREMENDOUSLY!!! I used it and took a nap and felt better. I hope it didn't harm it :( I will try some of the ointment after a shower and the sitz baths help the pain too. Sitz baths are just hot baths right?

Sitz baths are warm baths but you have to actually squat in the tub not sit. That's what my doc told me today. Or buy a thing that sits on you toilet that you fill with water and sit on that. I get them so I finally just bought the bath for the toilet today and it is so much easier just sit on it for five minutes three to five a day.

I stumbled upon this site this morning trying to find a remedy for my merciless hemmorhoid. It was never this bad but this morning, i woke up bleeding, not much, but with great pressure on my bottom. Went to the bathroom sat down and blood filled the toilet :((( im afraid to discuss it with people because its such an embarassing situation...
So while sitting on the toilet, i got a washcloth, soaked it with freezing water, and 'wrapped' it around the protruding hemmorhoid then proceeded to squeeze whatever is in there with my fingers. It still hurts a lot and im currently at work trying to find comfortable ways to sit and walk... Im supposed to get this removed in a month since its causing me to have anemia and that was the only time my insurance approved it. Funny how insurance companies work eh?
Im 21 years old, been miserable for 3 years now, and never even had a baby! But it does run in the family, i am the first however to get a surgical intervention. Im a little excited and scared at the same time... The doc did say hemmoroidectomy can have a very painful recovery.
I am definitely going to try some of pain relief that people have posted.

I've had one for months. Read much, treated it with witch hazel, which helped some, but then got into nutrition utilizing the high powered exotic fruit mixes from the health food store and internal cleansing herbal tea.
I used stinging nettle tea to ease the pain and stool softener too. After a couple of weeks, it burst on it's own, drained and with witch hazel pat downs, pretty much went away.

Thanks for all the comments everyone, its nice knowing I'm not alone. I got a pea sized external 5 days ago. Guess I'm lucky apparently its not that big after reading some of your stories.

So one more post and I won't be back til I have another hemorrhoid... seeing from the previous posts and my own experiences they seem to be a reoccurring process... anyways, about the two hemorrhoids I posted about the last two or three months, the internal one I just recently posted about has subsided, it probably popped or went back inside but there was some pus, so it probably popped when I had a hard stool. I used stool softener for a week and now I am having trouble getting the stool back to normal. I know that can be a problem and restart the hemorrhoid process again. I'm drinking lots of water and eating fiber. But I am still having one problem!!! The external hemorrhoid on my buttcrack that I suffered with for months (from January to April [I wrote about this in my first post]), I am still suffering with at the end of July. Now, even though it popped Easter night 3 months ago, it is still draining clear pus! And there is a HUGE HOLE down there. I am a girl, I do not need another hole down there to worry about! Does anyone else have a huge hole left over from their popped hemorrhoid or absess? I wonder when it will go away. The doctor looked at it and said its healing fine but why is it taking 3 months to heal? I need to go back to the butt doctor.

Lyle, just make sure you keep that area 100% clean so you don't end up dealing with an absess. Use witch hazel and soft pads to wipe that area after a bowel movement. Good luck.

I very much appreciated everyones helpful input, so thought I'd add a few comments. I'm 39 weeks pregnant and have had this miserable thing for about a week. I've experienced hems before but only those that were itchy and mildly irritating. They always seemed to be caused by difficult bowel movements and went away once that problem was solved. Not the case this time! Bowel trouble isn't the issue-baby pressing down on the wrong parts is. Anyway, for a few days I alternated between Prep H creme and ointment. Neither seemed to help, although I can see how they would if I was constipated and needed things to move more smoothly. By the way-that nozzle to try and apply internally? Ow, no way.

I read the posts on this site about squeezing/poking and I'll say-go for it if you can, but it didn't work for me. The pain was too much and this thing never drained, just swelled up more the next day. I began taking warm baths with Epsom salts and Witch Hazel which offered temporary relief. A note on Witch Hazel-it was $7 at Walgreens and less than $2 at Wal-Mart. Don't waste your money on an expensive bottle! Likewise, Tucks pads are just soaked in the stuff. Convenient, sure, but if it works out for you its a much better deal to buy cotton pads and a bottle. My doctor couldn't do anything because I'm so close to delivery and I have to say, I'm terrified that this is going to make labor about 1000 times worse! Tylenol has helped, but I have to try and remember to take before the pain is unbearable. Finally, I did spring for an $11 tube of Nepurcainal. Hardly a miracle, but it does some numbing and took my pain from a 10 to a 6 or 7 so it at least gave some relief.

maybe you didnt poke a deep enough hole in the thing? I know it hurts but, if you get it out, its so worth it...you should try again, I know it hurts. I feel your pain. Also Congrats on the new baby, you should name if its a boy, him Lyle..lol
