Well John I'm really hoping this will just shrink away to oblivion. Surely this must happen to some people. I've been religious about keeping it clean with witch hazel, and it is still shrinking and bleeding a bit. I'll be devastated if it returns, although I am wondering what the results will be once it heals up and stops bleeding. I'm just hesitant to take anyting internally. Don't they ever just go away on their own forever??

I just wanted to follow up on my experience ... mine finally popped just about a week after it showed up. It had been bleeding quite a bit. I used the hottest water I could tolerate and held a wet washcloth against it for several minutes. Then I pinched it and felt a pop! The skin had broke and a blood clot came out in several pieces. There was a lot of blood for about 10 minutes but once most of the clot was removed, it let up. I felt instant relief! After I cleaned the area, I put triple antibiotic on it and went to bed. In the morning there was still a small lump...but it was about 1/5 the size it originally was and didn't hurt at all. I continued to put preparation h on it and now a couple days later it is almost completely gone! Before it popped, I had been putting the preparation h on several times a day and using very warm compresses as well. Good luck to anyone else who suffers...I hope you are able to find your own solution!

Thanks for everyone's comments - especially Ann & sick. I am going through my own little hell right now... I am on day 5. If something doesn't happen on it's own within the next few days - I'll probably take matters into my own hands.

Ann and sick thank you for your stories. I am 27 and have gotten them here and there since my late teens. Have not had one in years, and all of a sudden have a HUGE external one that is causing me such pain and comfort that I had to try to read about it as I lay in bed at 2 am. I did try to have my boyfriend pop it earlier to no avail. This pain and discomfort is just so unbearable I can't take it. Its definitely walnut size and getting bigger by the hour and it only showed up yesterday :( I know I'm crazy but I would rather take the risk than lay here like this any longer. I am 100% broke so I CANNOT try any of these methods. I have generic prep h and that's IT. I have no insurance either. So you have to understand I have almost nothing to work with. Self popping is really my only option at this point. I can't bear this any longer. Will TRY to report back everyone. Good luck to you also.

Steven, I'm so sorry you are suffering. I hope you tell us how you're doing. I went to the doctor today and I'm just about back to normal now. He said "I wonder how you got that thrombosed hemroid in the first place". I wanted to hit him because I have no idea!! I do know that I will forever make sure I don't get constipated. I have diverticulitis so am very conscious of never being constipated to begin with. Maybe I was wiping myself too hard, I have no idea. Now I make sure I am very gentle because if it returns I'll be so upset. Steve, if you follow my regiment with the warm not hot sitz baths and ice cubes I know it will break. I helped mine a bit by applying some pressure when I felt it was at the breaking point. Be prepared for quite a bit of blood with that happens. If I can be of support for you I will. Good luck. No one understands the discomfort and pain unless you've lived it. It is all consuming.

Dallas, I can honestly say I feel your pain. I encourage you to stick with the alternating warm not hot sitz baths and ice cubes. All those creams are of no use at all. I used witch hazel as a cleansing tool with soft pads they sell for removing makeup. Witch hazel isn't expensive. Save your money. Just keep the area clean. Best of luck.

I purchased Hemclear which is an all natural medicine proven to cure hemorrhoids. I see others on this site have also been talking about it. You can take it orally so it heals the hemorrhoids from the inside. I have very bad eating habits that cause me to get hemorrhoids often, but hemclear gets rid of them very quickly. I am getting better at eating and drinking more water. The URL to purchase the medicine is http://www.hemclear.com/102.html . Good luck. I hope it works for you as well as it did for me.

An external hemorrhoid is a vein whose vein wall has weakened forming a bulge. When the blood pools and eddys in this bulge, it tends to clot. As one or more clots form, the hemorrhoid gets larger, tighter, and changes color. It's painful, because the area is serviced by pain-receptive nerves.
Clots tend to dissolve on their own after a few weeks. You can have them cut out by a doctor, but it will still take about 10 days for the hemorrhoid to reduce back to its normal size. Even then, the clot(s) can reform. The procedure to have the clot removed can either be done with or without an anesthetic shot, but either way it's painful. The shot hurts like crazy for about 7-10 seconds and digging around without one, if extensive is about as bad, especially if they have to dig more than one clot out.
It's important to understand that this isn't like a puss-filled sac or a pimple that you can just pop. This is a vein, with blood flowing through it. Pop it and all you've done is further damage the vein wall. You can experience considerable blood loss as well, not something you want to do in the event it gets out of hand.
You want the vein to heal and the weakened tissue to get repaired. Pressing on it, puncturing it, popping it etc...is a mistake. Deal with it intelligently. Learn what to do to improve the healing conditions, what to apply, what not to do etc...
Way to sell something, douchebag.

Hahaha!!! Notice that all the "different" people that endorse hemclear are from Clarksville, TN?? Obviously the same person just spamming the site. Of course they don't want you to cure yourself, they have something to sell you!!!! Hahahahahah!!!!! Probably is the most useless scam product on the market!!

Yes Scott, I certainly noticed that too. It's really unfortunate that someone can be so cruel. This is a great forum for us to share our experiences and hopefully help others. Sometimes all we need is encouragement because the pain is so acute we need to know it will pass. We all realize that having Hemerrhoids is not fatal, but it sure can be all consuming and downright miserable. Shame on anyone coming here to sell their snake oil!!!! Beware everyone. Sitz baths and ice cubes, and patience. This too will pass, I promise.

I like prep H. Was cleaning area with washcloth in hot shower and blood clot came off and bled. Now, it's a fraction of the size. Just using lots of prep h at night while I sleep.

Hey, I've stumbled onto this, and I think I too am recovering from an external thrombosed hemmorhoid (hadn't heard of either of these two words before last week!!).
STATS: Male, Age 29, healthy, I take lots of walks, and lift weights twice a week, I'm "in shape", etc.
BEGINNING: Last wednesday about, I noticed an itch in my anal area, but I figured it was just an itch, or if I went to the bathroom itd go. That night I noticed a soft pea shaped swelling. By Friday it was a HUGE bean shaped swelling. That thing was about an inch long. Right under the anus. It had made me stiff and by now it was a little uncomfortable.
DOCTORS: So on Friday I went to the doctor. He was surprised by how large it was, but also he wasn't alarmed per se which I figure is a good sign. He did some draining and removed some blood clots. I was prescribed some pain-killers, and stool softeners. No working out for 2 weeks.
AFTERMATH: Some of the greatest pain I've ever felt in my life was when the anasthesia suddenly wore off. Wow, I was trembling like moses in front of a burning bush. It was some euphoric pain. That's the only time I used the prescribed pain killers, which thankfully kicked in after 45 minutes and worked well. I haven't used any painkillers since that initial dose (I almost never ever take OTC painkillers like Tylenol or Advil, let alone the prescription stuff). So it's been two days since the doctor popped it. No pain really, except this morning a burst of pain for about 10 seconds both before and after a completing a bowel movement. The bean shaped swelling is still there except that it has a hole--it wsa left as an open wound. This seems odd, but from reading it often that's how doctors do it. I read that sometimes the doctor will just take out the clot which is what he must have done.
QUESTIONS FROM READERSS: 1. How many sitz baths MUST one take daily? How come a sitz bath is safe with an open wound? 2. Once the clot is removed, does the rest of the hemmaroid wither a way eventually? What is the point of removing only the clot? 3. Why wasn't I prescribed any antibiotics or disinfectant? 4. What do you do after bowel movements?.....toilet paper sounds like a no go. Baby wipes? Are they flushable either at a commercial/public restroom or a home bathroom?

Yea for the most part don't try it out as it will only get worse. What you can do is ask your doctor a little more about the procedure and maybe he can help you out.
You should try this out

Worked for me maybe it'll work for you to :)

Found this site looking for pictures of what I have. Pretty sure it was an external thrombosed hemi. It came up kind of quick so I wasn't sure what it was, never had one before, I’m 39. After talking with the wife and then her talking with the mother-in-law (retired nurse) that's it. Notice little bump will washing first day. Had slight swelling and mild discomfort second day. Third day it started hurting, hurting during movement, applying prep h cream, and needed donut to sit at work. That night before bed I did a sits’ bath, prep h suppository, and prep h cream. IT POPPED DURING THE NIGHT. Woke up with blood covered sheets and underwear, but didn't panic. Cleaned up, bleeding had stopped, and kept area clean after each movement. I also applied triple antibiotic cream each time and kept area covered with clean gauze. 4 days later almost gone.

Hey everyone, let's be honest. This thing suck and I have got then several times. These are clotted up veins and only a few things you can do. 1) don't pop - does popping a vein really sound all that smart? Nope 2) lots of fluid - this is gonna take a bit of time to heal, so might as well soften the poop to make it not nearly as unpleasant 3) prep h - might as well slap some medicated cream on that sucker 4) suck it up - it's gonna hurt but that's just the nature of these suckers. All mine have gone away with a high liquid intake and a week long of a hurtin poop shoot!

SuckItUp....it's easy to say when it's all over. But when you're living it, it consumes every thought and everything you do. In response to WAN, if you read my posts it pretty much answers all your questions. Save your money folks. Sitz baths follwed by ice cubes about 3 to 5 times/day and it will go away. Yes there's a hole in it, so very important to keep it clean - gauze or makeup pads and witch hazel to clean it. Antibiotics not necessary unless it's infected - don't let it get infected. Good luck. I see SuckItUp lives pretty close to me - hope it's not enviromental, lol.

So should a person pop it or not? I am thinking about it. I am in horriable pain. What to do?

Hello all. For about a week there was something that felt almost like a pimple of some sort, very close to my anus, although I could not physically feel it with my fingers. It was sort of painful but not unbearably so. The thing is, I have had hemorrhoids a lot over the past 7 years so I am fairly used to the pain that they produce. Then, two days ago after a bowel movement, it seemed to pop. It bled all day until I went to sleep. Once I woke up, the bleeding seemed to stop. Then the next day (today) I had another bowel movement and it started bleeding once more. It is still bleeding at this moment, and it is somewhat painful. The worst feeling is the swelling.

My question is: could this have been a thrombosed hemorrhoid that burst on its own? The bleeding isn't really excessive, i.e. it's not leaking out onto my underwear, but whenever I check with a piece of toilet paper I always see blood on it. The blood is bright red, unless I let it sit for a while, then it becomes darker... pretty much like a nosebleed.

Please respond ASAP as this is really worrying me! I have no medical insurance so seeing a doctor is NOT an option!

Mike, if you read my past posts you will see that this is all part of the healing process. Mine bled that way for weeks - I'd press a bit of kleenex and there was the blood. The hole closes up slowly and eventually everything returns to normal. I urge you to use something like witch hazel (at all drugstores) to cleanse the area because as long as it's bleeding, it's open and can become infected. That would be a nightmare!
