I'm not recommending this as a thing for anyone to do, but I recently "drained" (sort of) an obviously thrombosed hemorrhoid. It's external, itched like hell, and looked like it was ready to pop or something. So I carefully sterilized things, took a small needle, and pricked it, and blood started to ooze out. It hadn't been particularly painful, just itchy and enlarged. But it was black with engorged blood, so I knew it needed to be opened. I was afraid a huge amount of blood would come out but it didn't seem like a lot. Of course, I was kind of scared to do this, but I've had so many bad experiences with doctors going overboard with cutting and making things even worse than before, I did it this way. Again, I'm not telling people to do this, this is just my own experience. Anyone else done it or tempted to do it? I read the person who did the self-ligation with dental floss which was interesting. I guess if we all had more confidence in our docs, we wouldn't be doing this to ourselves at all. Thanks for the feedback!

Dont do this yourself. I've had the same thing happen twice and I was in extreme pain. The doctor gave a numbing shot (worst part) and then cut the clots out. Feels better almost instantly. However, the doc told me that if you wait the clots will disolve by themselves (week or two). Make sure to drink lots of water (to week blood from thickening)

So, I don't believe I have the guts to stick a sharp object anywhere near my anus, I'm looking at squeezing the bubble until it pops. I had one of these things before and I scheduled for an appointment with my family doctor. I don't believe it had become thombrosed yet, but it was external, hurt like all heck, and didn't have any discoloration. As he pressed his fingers against it, he had to have popped it from the pressure. It oozed blood and puss and relieved the pressure instantly. It was only raw for a day after that, but all he sad was to keep neosporin on it for a few days and that it would be sensitive. Well, it's true, if you had one you're bound to suffer from more. The dreaded bubble came back and it's reached about the same size, if not larger than before. The pressure is unbearable and I don't want to risk the embarrassment of consulting my doctor again, so I'm going to wait it out until I squeeze hard enough one day it will pop.

As for popping, I would do it over the toilet or an old towel. When my hemorrhoid popped, it was very messy and smelly.

Just don't do it by yourself, that's not a smart thing. It may work for one person but you can't be sure if it will work in your case. If you really decide to do it, be sure to apply treatments before you do. Here are some that might work - http://hemroidshemorrhoidscure.com/category/h...

I had a couple of badly swollen Hamorrhoids looking like the rear end of a male baboon. In much pain I arranged a mirror & light then went to work with a needle & sqeeezing. With some difficulty I released a large amount of clotted blood from one. The other I tried to stab but I couldn't seem to release the pressure. Much pain from the enraged one for 3 days. The successful one settled quite fast. Spent a number of hours in the bath. Back to normal now. Overall not sure if I'd do that again but I guess it was an experience.

I've read through much online information today, as I've found myself for the first time ever dealing with a hemorroid. I'm currently seven months pregnant so I'm assuming the pressure from the baby is the culprit. Lack of blood flow has actually caused me to pass out during this pregnancy. I have two children and neither of those pregnancies had these issues...

Anyway, I decided something had to be done about this little, painful annoyance today and popping it seemed to make perfect sense. I wanted to try remedy first, so I went with Tea Tree oil. A few drops on the effected area and a brief rest. It was cooling and a bit of burning occured. Then, I noticed the pain subside. I used the restroom to find that the hemorroid had started to dissolve or pop.

Very bloody, with some puss. Absolutely disgusting if you ask me. It wasn't completely gone so I decided to clean the area again and add more oil. Same result again, but now the thing is just about gone... Thank goodness! I'll never laugh when I hear a hemorroid joke again. They are no joke...

Medical treatment of hemorrhoids is aimed initially at relieving symptoms. Measures to reduce symptoms include
* tub baths several times a day in plain, warm water for about 10 minutes
* application of a hemorrhoidal cream or suppository to the affected area for a limited time
Preventing the recurrence of hemorrhoids will require relieving the pressure and straining of constipation. Doctors will often recommend increasing fiber and fluids in the diet. Eating the right amount of fiber and drinking six to eight glasses of fluid—not alcohol—result in softer, bulkier stools. A softer stool makes emptying the bowels easier and lessens the pressure on hemorrhoids caused by straining. Eliminating straining also helps prevent the hemorrhoids from protruding.

Good sources of fiber are fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In addition, doctors may suggest a bulk stool softener or a fiber supplement .

In some cases, hemorrhoids must be treated endoscopically or surgically. These methods are used to shrink and destroy the hemorrhoidal tissue. The doctor will perform the procedure during an office or hospital visit.
A number of methods may be used to remove or reduce the size of internal hemorrhoids. These techniques include
Rubber band ligation. A rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoid inside the rectum. The band cuts off circulation, and the hemorrhoid withers away within a few days.
Sclerotherapy. A chemical solution is injected around the blood vessel to shrink the hemorrhoid.
Infrared coagulation. A special device is used to burn hemorrhoidal tissue.
Hemorrhoidectomy. Occasionally, extensive or severe internal or external hemorrhoids may require removal by surgery known as hemorrhoidectomy.

So I have had hemorrhoids for 5 years now. I am pretty much sick of them all together been good for a while until i got sick and my stool got to dam soft and bam i got a grape stuck to my butt now. I use proctofoam from the doctor it helps but it does not seem to be a permanent fix. I eat oatmeal and take metamucil so i believe im getting my fiber i just want a permanent fix to this problem. I was so close to popping mine i couldnt sleep it hurt that bad. Well i wish i had some useful information besides using proctofoam but it helps when they get bad. They always come back at least once a month.

Good luck All

Well, at the moment I have a small sel-placed rubber band around mine. One of those tiny hair snags that is used for minature plaiting of hair. I feel I have been through the worst pain for the last 24 hours. It is now enormous and swollen and I'm sat here, hopefully waiting for it to drop off

I searched out this topic because of a very unique experience I just had. I developed a Roid (I think this is where Roid Rage came from, not steroids) about 17 years ago that comes and goes every 5 or so years. I developed an external one about 4 days ago and hurt like the deickens, used Perp H and by day 4 things were a bit smaller and less painful. I was making my morning tea and sneezed, I felt a very weird feeling like the roid popped. It did. This was embarrassing, glad I was still at home. Instant relief, and others have said thick black blood clots and fresh blood came out. I have now been about 20 minutes with toilet tissue between my cheeks . I check every 5 or so minutes and things seem to be stopping. I will use the neosporin later and hope this fixed the problem - who would have ever imagined a sneeze cured the problem.

Just discovered my first ever hemorrhoid - external and, I think, thrombosed. It didn't hurt or itch - something just felt odd when I wiped and - eek, there it was!

Anyway, I sterilized a needle with a match and skewered it several times (almost completely painless) then gave it a few good squeezes. Some blood and several small clots, no infection. Washed the area and slapped on some Polysporin. Still no pain.

Will see what happens tomorrow ...

Having an external and thrombosed hemorrhoid is the most painful experience. It is painful to go to the bathroom, but above all the twitching pain and making it difficult to stand or sit was unbearable. I DO NOT recommend popping it yourself. I recently had this happen to me and I went to Urgent Care. The doctor and I agreed to drain it and instantly the pain immediately subsided. A miracle! At the same time, I was given an antibiotic called "Cephalexin" to help prevent re-infection. Keep the wound clean and instead of wiping, wash and cleanse daily. For the next couple of day there will be a spotting and light bleeding. As a man, I would have never thought I would be using a sanitary pad, but it helped a lot saved a lot of my Calvin Klein underwear.

So to make clear: Do Not attempt on popping it yourself as you might accidently prick a vein which will cause more problems. See a medical professional and have it drained. Trust!!

Not good. Do not do this yourself at home, seriously.

While it might have been fine for 1 person, the chances are it won't work for the next 9 people.

Take yourself to a doctor if it's that bad - at least they can do things medically and will know if any veins are close by.

@ErollFlynn - I agree, I've used sanitary pads before myself - never thought in a million years I would be wearing one but my hemorrhoids have popped a few times and let me tell you they are a life saver. The first time it happened it was in PUBLIC. Talk about embarassing - suffice to say next time I had a bout of them the pad went on.

Cheers,
Daniel

I have had an external hemorrhoid for About 5 days, and I have been applying generous amounts of prep h to it at least 3 times daily. Worst pain ever. After every bowel movement, when I would wipe there would be a little spot of blood. Today I sat down on the toilet to poo and I heard it pop, and when I wiped, a lot of blood and blood clots but no puss. Took a shower then put gauze and prep h on it, in an hour, I'm going to switch to neposporin and gauze. Hope it goes away! Feels much better now.

I have had what I think to be a external pile and I have had it now for about 4 days. It has caused me alot of pain and discomfort but I tried to manage as best I could. I have been applying Prep H for the past days and taking IBU. The 4th day I went out and bought some Witch Hazel and Vitamin E to apply and it started to feel better then got itchy. I later looked at it using a mirror and noticed a white bump on the hard spot that had been bothering me. Im not sure now if it was an ingrown hair or what but I said the Heck with it and squeezed it and then some milky substance came out that also had some blood in it. I dont know what it is or was but man do I want to go on a run or do some jump n jacks now! I feel better but am kind of concerned as to what it was I guess I will find out in a day or so how I feel and then just drive on with my life and hopefully it wont come back. If anyone has any info on what this sounds like and if I will live then please hit me up.

How long did it take stop hurting & to fall off? I have done the same thing and I am in extreme pain! Having to numb the area with a numbing cream I got from laser hair removal procedure.
