Probably a bad idea, but I suffered from the itching of an external hemorrhoid for almost a year, and finally decided my doctor wasn't helping me. After reading about the rubber band ligation technique, I came up with my own version. I used dental floss to make a slip knot, and choked the sucker to death. I left a bit of the floss hanging so that I could tighten it periodically (it hurts a bit, but it is nothing compared to the torture I was going through for several months). After about a day, the hemorrhoid was puffed up pretty big, and then after about 3 days, it has withered up, and looks like it is almost ready to fall off. I will try to keep you updated on how the recovery goes, but so far things are looking good.

Again, I would like to point out that I don't recommend doing something like this yourself, but I just felt my doctor wasn't helping me. I am just posting this here to pass on what I have learned. I DO NOT ENDORSE THE ACTIONS DESCRIBED ABOVE!

Success!!

On the fifth day, after the hemorrhoid had withered and died, it finally fell off, and I am left with just a tiny bulge where the hemorrhoid was. I plan on treating this with some sort of cream, Preperation H perhaps.

Overall, the procedure was not too painful at all. For the first time in what seems like an eternity, I feel normal again, like I will be able to get back to enjoying life.

Although I would recommend seeing a doctor, if you ever run out of options, I would definately suggest this technique for treating external hemorrhoids (keeping in mind that it is a last resort).

Hi,
I would like to know if anyone has had Infrared Coagulation for hemorrhoids? I have suffered with them for over 17 years and am ready to do something other than self medicate. I have to say that the dental floss trick was very brave. I have thought about doing something like that over the years.
Thanks

That's an interesting story. I did some self-treatment of a thrombosed hemorrhoid which seemed to help. I still have a lump there after draining some blood out of it, but it did feel better, with less pressure. If we had more confidence in our doctors, we wouldn't feel the need to do these things, but I'm glad it worked out well for you.

I had an external Hemorrhoid for years, wasn't very bothersome until a couple of years ago. So, I did some research on the matter and saw an article about how doctors are now using electrolysis in their treatment with a very high success rate.
Well, Being somewhat electro-mechanically inclined, I made my own little electrolysis rig (Don't try this at home kids) and tried it out. Only used it for about is for about 15 minutes JUST ONCE!
The first week sucked (I don't like pain killers), The thing got hard as a rock and was very painful, but actually started shrinking! and the pain went away after the second week!
After about a month, It was totally gone, never to be seen again.
That was TWO YEARS AGO!
The only evidence it was ever there is a very small dimple.

Fight hemorrhoids with fluids and fiber!
I have suffered with hemorrhoids for about 25 years. I have tried many methods and most of them gave some relief. these include surgery, ointments, suppositories etc. Often a combination of approaches brought the greatest relief.
Yet they kept coming back until I worked on my diet. I find a good combination of fluids and fiber worked best.
PS Not too much fiber without fluids, as this can backfire and cause more damage.

Wow, watch out for infection. I'd recommend a safer alternative and a lot less painful. Look into the IRC treatment. It's a quick, non-surgical, and very effective.
I suffered through hemorroids for 18 years, but it gave me instant relief.

Sorry to anyone who tried this without success. When I wrote that, I had both internal and external hemorrhoids. I used this method on the external hemorrhoid and it has not returned since (it fell off in the bathtub). I am still suffering from internal hemorrhoids however, but I am working on changing my diet for that.

Please, if you have any other options, do not try this yourself. The only reason I posted this is because some people don't have access to doctors, and it did work for me.

wouldn't recommend this method. can be extremely painful on external hemorrhoid and ligature very difficult to remove once tightened, nor should it be removed after a few hours in case risk of blood poisoning

I so want to try B-dawg's method. I have a external one. but am worried that if it goes wrong I will have to go to a doctor any ways and I don't have insurance. So is there anyone else that has done it besides B-dawg and MYL?

For anyone who has an external hemorrhoid DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT try and remove it yourself with dental floss. I tried this method myself at home and at first was just a tight, uncomfortable, slight painful feeling, then by day three it had swollen up 3xs its size and was turning purple and was EXTREAMLY painful. I tried to stick it out but it didn't seem to be dying off, it just turned darker and became more and more painful. I tried to tighten the floss and retie new pieces the 2nd and 3rd day, which did nothing. By day 3, I couldn't take it anymore and went to the E.R. By this time it was bleeding around the string, swollen, I was in EXTREAM pain. I thought that the Dr. would just cut the thing off, but she ended up only cutting the floss. Afterwards I had meds. to help it heal, but still had a hemmorhoid - except now it was bigger than before!! If you think of doing this and end up in pain, thinking that a Dr. in the E.R. will cut it off for you, think again. They won't do it in the E.R. unless it's extreme circumstances. What they will do is cut off the string you made only, and give you pain meds. My E.R. surgeon explained that you HAVE to make an appointment to get a surgery like this. And, you should have insurance because from what I have read and researched, it's not a cheap surgery. I don't have med insurance at this time since I only work part time, but I've been seen by a local community med. center for those will lower incomes. There I have discounted Dr. visit rates, and they are helping me now seek insurance options. So things are starting to look up, and I am hoping to be able to get surgery sometime in the near future. This was my true experience and a warning for anyone out there who is so fed up with it that they are thinking of trying to remove it themselves. I know it's no fun having a hemmorhoid, but don't feel alone. A lot of people have them and most people get them at least once in life so it's a common condition to have. But the best thing to do is check with your local comm. health centers if you don't have med. insurance and they should be able to help get you some type of insurance coverage. Good luck.

It is amazingly painful to have a hemorrhoid. I would never make it worse by
doing the strangulation myself. Not only is it dangerous but probably more painful than the inflamed hemorrhoid.

I tried a product called Anuleaf and it really helped the hemorrhoid reverse back. I think the goal should not be to remove but to help the hemorrhoid go back to its natural cavity. This product helps by taking the rubbing away and the hemorrhoid can heal faster. It is not expensive and it allows you to avoid the doctor which is what I wanted.

I can't imagine trying such a painful method for getting rid of hemorrhoids. Instead I suggest trying a natural treatment that is attacking the root of the problem and is fully guaranteed to work or your money is refunded. Check this out:

If you would like a more simple and effective method than those metioned above for treating your prolapsed hemmerhoids, you might want to try the FDA-cleared HemAway seat http://www.hemaway.com .

You just place the seat on your toilet when you hemorrhoid is protruding, sit on it, and the hemorrhoid will retract into the body for instant relief form pain and discomfort.

It gives you quick relief in a few minutes without any side affects.

Good luck!
