Hi all,
I have been trying to find a cause of my horrific halitosis, and "H pylori" keeps popping up in my research. Do any of you, who have tested positive for h pylori, suffer from bad breath as one of your symptoms? I have some digestive issues, but no ulcers that I am aware of. I am going to make an appointment with my doctor and hopefully he will test me for h pylori. If anyone has had halitosis from h pylori, please let me know! My bad breath has me stumped, and I am in the middle of a process of elimination, I have already been to the dentist twice in the last 6 months, and my mouth is in great shape! The dentist told me that my bad breath must be related to my diet. I have elimnated dairy, sugar, etc, to no avail. I am desperate for an answer. Thank you so much!

Hi, I never had bad breath and then I stated getting sick with GI problems and kept getting this horrible taste in my mouth in addition to bad breath and dry mouth and I just tested positive for H. pylori so I start antibiotics tomorrow and I'll see if that helps.

I Had H Bacter Pylori about 8 years , had a small ulcer 25 years ago and a reflux gullet.
I have had very bad breath for about 10 years. I cleaned my tongue, flossed, watched diet, ate fruit but no success. 6 weeks ago I had an endoscopy and tested positive for helico-bacter again, but luckily no problem in the gullet or stomach.
I started the helico-bacter treatment and after about 4 days my breath almost disappeared. It is now 3 weeks since treatment, my tongue is a lot cleaner and I have had normal breath.
I can categorically say that helico does give appalling breath (for me at least). I think my first treatment for helico 8 years simply didn't work.
My consultant plans to retest me for helico in about 4 weeks, so I will be interested to see what he says. I feel confident to speak to people now without feeling worried about my breath.

Hi,

It's reassuring to know there are people out there who have had the same trouble. I've gotten pretty sick and tired of smelling this awful smell that seems to be coming from my mouth. My family and friends tell me I'm going mad. Right up until someone says 'who farted' and no-one has! And I know the smell came from me. Also I've been suffering from heartburn, reflux, gurgles in the throat and tummy, wind, bloating, and bad overall digestion. I Genuinely thought I was falling apart! It stumped me, and made me pretty miserable for some time. The doctors have been extremely unhelpful. But now, through talking to another doctor, going to a nutritionist and doing hours or research on the internet, we seem to have found the that the culprit is H Pylori. Since discovering this and waiting for an endoscopy (damn the NHS), I've taken up eating several teaspoons of Manuka Honey each day. I wasn't sure about it, until I noticed the heartburn had stopped and (even though I've still got a yukky taste in my mouth) the awful smell seems to have almost gone! And that's just after half a jar!

I recommend a whole bunch of things - HP seems to mess up the whole digestive system and caused me to have food intolerances – so I've been advised to cut out gluten, dairy and yeast for a month or so. And I'm taking all sorts of supplements:

• Bio-Acidophilus to replace the good bacteria (none of that sugered probiotic yogurt rubbish)
• Antifungal – Pau D'arco tea or capsules (mainly for any yeast issues)
• Biocare Hepaguard Forte for the liver (which suffers at this time)
• Berberine and grapefruit (antimicrobial I think)
• Some Enzyme Digest capsules (to help break down protein and carbs)
• Psyllium (to help digestion which is totally buggered at this time)
• And of course Manuka Honey. Which seems to do the trick (Active 10 or more is recommended).

I know this seems like a lot of stuff. I've gone for an all-out approach as I got so tired of the symptoms. But I can't recommend Manuka honey enough. Just make sure you're going for the high Active ones.

The double or triple course of antibiotics might help. I've not tried this yet. Though I hear different stories about the success rates.

Anyway, I do hope this might help a bit. For me, realising that it was HP and not some dreaded, unknown, uncurable disease put my mind at ease.

I hope you get it sorted and good luck!

RE: Bad breath

Hi guys, may be this will help-
I have similar problem - I have h pylori (got rid of it few years back with triple antibiotics but then contracted this annoying bug again. Had bad breath, allergy symptoms fatigue and so on.
I found that if I drink coffee or anything sweet my bad breath becomes worse, so I stopped to eat anything sweet and drinking coffee.
Found that when I feel really tired if I force myself to go on the exercise bike for 20 min. it helps to get rid of the fatigue. Found if I constantly seep a little olive oil - it helps with the bad breath. O one more - when I had it first time it really gave me a lot of anxiety and it made everything a lot worse. Now I'm more calm and it actually helps just to feel better.
Now I do have some symptoms, although at least the breath is better. Garlic really helps to relive many symptoms but of course garlic smell isn't much better :)
Going to doctor tomorrow thinking is there any point to take triple antibiotics again if it's so easy to contract this stuff. I want to try more natural solutions. I've heard broccoli sprouts - did anybody try?
Wish you all good luck

Honestly, I don't think this is true at all.

Scientists have estimated that 50% of the world's population has the H Pylori bacterium within their stomach's is that to say that 50% of the world's population also has bad breath?

Very doubtful.

Yes, I have been suffering from bad breath since as early as I can remember the 6th grade. I have tried everything and the dentist, ent or medical doc. didn't know or seem to take me serious. I have now been told that I have H pylori and I am hoping that the prevpac will kill whatever is giving me bad breath ALL of my life. I have always had a bad taste in my mouth and chewing gum seems to make it worse. I discovered as an adult that people can smell my breath even through my nose. I know that there has to be an answer and my doctors are just not listening to me after all these years. It's as if no one wants to talk about it. Socially, I have done less and less things because it is embarrasing being around people. I have prayed to God to help me with my problem and I have started to apoligize to new people I meet so that they don't think that I am not clean.

I had really bad breath in high school and tried everything to get rid of it. Dentist said I was fine, the ENT said I was fine, and when I finally got around to the stomach doctor they gave me an antibiotic regiment called PrevPac which cured my bad breath for about 5 years. I ended up taking it again when my breath came back and it went away again. It's been about another 5 years and some people have recently told me my breath smells bad, so I plan to make another appointment with the stomach doc to see if I can find out why it comes back every 5 years or so, and to get another PrevPak prescription.

I knew the bad breath was stomach related because when I brushed my teeth and used mouthwash, my breath still smelled 5 minutes afterwards. However, if I ate a full meal then my breath did not smell until a few hours after eating.

Hope that helps.

i too suffer from extreme halitosis(people who are 4 meters away from me can still smell my breath)and body odor.i cant smell my breath or my supposed body odor.i have been to a lot of doctors who are mostly ENT and all told me that i am normal and that my halitosis and my body odor is only in my mind(although all of them periodically cover their nose, cough excessively, sniffle and open their windows or turn their air fans while i am talking).its only lately that a gastro has determined that i have HP infection and i have lessions inside my stomach.the gastro conclude that my suffering is a direct result of HP.right now im on my second day of medication(antibiotics)and hopeful that my odor problems will be cured.

Hi Linda,
Years ago i was diagnosed with gastritis; told to take some otc pills and it would be fine. things were ok for a while, was not getting stomach pains. Then I started to notice bad taste in my mouth and bad breath. over the years have gone to many dentists.. and everyone says everything is fine. I pulled my wisdom teeth as consequence, thinking that this was probably the reason. Wrong!
I started suffering from acid reflux, difficulty swallowing. Went to see a doctor. He did a blood test for h.pylori; it came back negative. I pleaded with him to refer me a gastroentologist; he would not, thought i was crazy. He put me on Zantac. For a period of time, I began breaking out in Hives all over body; eventually these went away on own. Finally went to see a gastroentologist, he diagnosed me with gerd and put me on nexium. I did not take these.
A year later, I went to see another gastroentologist. I was popping zantac pills every morning to no avail. This gastroentologist told me to get off the zantac and performed an endoscopy. I was diagnosed with h.pylori. I did a triple therapy(can't recall which one). two months later did a stool test and it came back negative. The bad breath is still there which to me indicates that perhaps the stool test could possibly be a false negative.
I spent countless hours on the internet reading for years on this. Recently i found this article http://www.helico.com/case_study-01-halitosis...
Perhaps trying that specific triple therapy could target what i have. i don't know.
Anyone else with a similar case?

Re: Bad breath
Hope that this can help.
After brushing you teeth, clean your tongue then use sesame oil as a mouthwash (2tsp). Try to hold and move (gargle..) the oil in your mouth for 10-15 min, then use warm water to cleanse your mouth again. Sesame oil is known to fight bacteria HP.
You can see the result in a week.
Good luck!

Hi everybody...first sorry about my english, is not that good...

I had the same problem, in the beginning I thought it was my mouth but the dentist said that everything was ok, then a gastro doctor gave a combination of antibiotics after 2 days I just wake up in the morning with the freshest breath ever, I couldn't believe it, I had a beautifull breath just for 8 month because it came back, I heard that if the treatment fail you have to change that because it became resistant to the antibiotics.......what a luck......I got a go my baby is crying.......good luck everybody

oh I almost forgot this page may help

i have just been tested for H.Pylori using the breath test and it came back with a reading of 4400. a score of above 200 is considered very high. the doctor was shocked. he put me on the Nexium HP7 triple antibiotics. it is 3 days now and the foul breath has disappeared. i have been suffering from the debilitating effects of bad breath for over 20 years and hoping that it never comes back.
