Tari,
I hope that you are doing ok as of this writing.
I have had the gastroscopy twice in the past few months. The procedure itself is quick. Other than dealing with this H Pylori, do you have digistive issues? Tell your friends that you are dealing with digistive issues so you need to be good and figure out what is going on, I am sure they will understand.
Let us know how you are doing.
Thanks for your reply Larry - it's good to know there are people out there who understand and who I can talk to :) I am seeing my friends tonight and will explain it as you suggest. I didn't want to go into lots of detail in case they think I am infectious!

I don't think I have other digestive issues - I went to the doctor with a dry cough and she suggested acid reflux might be the cause. That was when I remembered that I, more and more often, needed to drink milk for indigestion purposes. However I thought it was just normal as you get older or because I was overdoing it. I used to get really bad indigestion with my two pregnancies. I felt so much better on omeprazole - all my symptoms disappeared. Am on the last day of the antibiotics today - got a bit of stomach pain which I haven't had so far....I am wondering where I contracted it and whether I should get my family tested? I was in Egypt five years ago and very ill there with food poisoning from eating salad washed in Nile water - yeuchy! I had avoided all the water and brushed my teeth carefully, kept my mouth closed in the shower, etc but totally forgot about the salad! How stupid. This may mean I have had it for five years I guess?

Hello to everyone else - hope everyone is improving and it's so good to hear your stories, especially the recovering ones.:)

Hi,

I finished my meds on 1/2/12, for myself, I could not find anything to relive that awful metallic, bleach smelling breath. If I used any types of mints my esophigus would spasm out to the point of not being able to swallow.

I started to feel improvment about 3 weeks ago, the taste is not as strong and for my other side effects I am getting better.

I can't tell you how long it will last, I hope that you do well with your improvement.

Hello everyone,

29 Year Old Male, here.

I tested positive for H Poly (via blood test) after 3 visits to the emergency room for stomach cramping and burning. I also had dark (but not black) stool.

I just completed my course of Amox, Biaxin and Nexium after 14 days. While I was starting to feel better on the antibiotics, I feel like I had a relapse (the burning pain in my stomach came back)now I am back to feeling miserable at times. I have not been back to the gastro yet, but I suspect that the first round of antibiotics has failed. I cannot say that I am looking forward to another round. Also, Nexium does NOTHING for me (except make me feel like crap) and I found Zantac to be much more effective at managing my pain.

I just want to say that you guys are all AWESOME!

Reading about your experiences (good and bad) really put my mind to rest mainly because at least now I know that I am not the only one who is suffering.I am also tired of the internet trying to convince me I have gastric cancer everytime i do a search on H Poly!(maybe in 40 years, but not now!)

I have been battling this fight for roughly 40 days now and I feel TERRIBLE about the fact my wife is 6 months pregnant and having to deal with all of my issues when we should be focusing on her and my soon to be born daughter.

Good luck everyone.

Andy,

After I finished my meds, I felt awful and I thought the worst, I even had a colonscope, barrium swallow ct-scan and a endoscope. All the test came back normal, execpt for minor inflammatory bowel disease which I think was caused by all the gas build up. And I had to have my esophagus streched. Be good to yourself, eat small portions.

We live in a want it now world and this condition will take a little time. If you have any questions let me know.

It's do funny that all you guys sound like me. I finished treatment with 3 meds 2 wks ago and haven't felt any better. I also have weird back pains that's freaking me out. I go for an endo on Wednesday so we will see how it goes. My symptoms r feeling sick to my stomach, bit of running stomach after antibiotics and abdominal discomfort. I ate a little too much today so I feel a bit sick to my stomach. Can't wait to return to living cos this is consuming me and I am only 30.

I had the treatment for h. pylori around six years ago and I still
have the same symptoms as all of you. I think you will always have
good days and some bad days.

You will always have to watch your diet. During the process of trying to find a cure for my severe nausea after treatment for
h. pylori Dr.s found that I also have celiac disease?????. I
did not have any problems with my stomach until I went through
the treatment for h.pylori.

If you are not have problems with your stomach and you have h.pylori I would not take the treatment. If, you are having
problems with your stomach, you just have to make the decision
on which of the two evils you want to deal with.

I have heard that 75% of the world has h.pylori, some have
problems and some never have problems.

If anyone has a treatment for after the treatment to feel better
please let me know. The best one I have found is the Specific
Carb. Diet. I have just started this and some of the food on
this diet I can't eat yet. The book is called Breaking the
Vicious Cycle. Hope this helps

Does anyone know whether it's important not to be on omeprazole when you have your gastroscopy/biopsy? I think I read somewhere that to check whether you are free of H Pylori you need to not be on this type of medication... I was supposed to stop taking it a couple of weeks ago but I am reluctant to in case the acid comes back.

Yes is important to be out of medication, as I have seen on some UK websites, at least 2 weeks to be out of ppi and to take more than one biopsy. Some also said that is better to check few months after treatment, like 4 - months to show the bacteria again. I did mine only while taking ppi 15mg. but not on the day of the test, about 45 days after treatment and one biopsy ... was negative, more than 6 months after treatment still not ok.

I had( i hope it is gone) H pylori too, same symptoms as all of you. I have been researching this online for a while. I found an article about about Manuka Honey, made in New Zealand. I have been taking it a teaspoon on bread right before I eat, plus I have been on antibiotics for the last 12 days. Yesterday I went to the movies with my son and did the worst thing ever. I felt great, so I ate popcorn, with butter and had a soda, but I forgot to take my acid medicine, yep. Four hours later I was violently sick, throwing up acid bile and nausea. I immediately took a teaspoon of honey on bread and a rantidine tab, I was better in an hour. The honey is suppose to help eliminate the little bacteria buggers and heal the stomach. I feel it has made a big difference. I am back to eating most things except mexican food. Bad part is for the first time in 6 months I feel hungary and my appetite has really increased.( time to gain the weight back :(
The honey is expensive and can be found in most health food stores or co ops, but is well worth it.
Hope this helps someone.

I'm so tired of trying to get better after my h pylori/antibiotic ordeal almost two years ago. I agree with you good days and bad days. So many times I feel lost and just don't know what to eat. My stomach can't handle most raw vegetables and I can't eat most things that diet books have, I'm just going to stop trying.
Faith is born in despair.

Keep your head up. I don't feel like I'm going mad anymore. Thanks to all on this. I've had some craziness since last Aug. I eat a burger from BK and ended up with a mad virus of the hypothalamus with also triggered the HP in my stomachto go nuts and Ended up in hospital thinking I was having a heart attack they told my it was really bad acid refluxs turned out I had HP and it was causing me pain under my arms and around my chest. I took the pills after I was tested 18th on Jan I was retested on the 23rd of March and confirmed clear. But the mad thing was starting to feel fine and then the pain in the chest came back again. They told me it can take up to 6 months to repair the damage it can cause, and put me on Protium an acid inhibitor and said that I might need to keep taking it indefinitely. Sorry for rambling but my question is does anyone else get chest pain that would make you think your having a heart attack and if so what the best thing to do. Thanks again to all who have posted its crazy to think that the doctors are happy to just give you some pills and leave it at that.

The only thing that helped the chest pain for me was to walk briskly and swing my arms back and forth in the running position. Or I also have a mini trampolin and running on that moving my arms the same way. I had all the same symptoms as you and was in the emergency room twice thinking I was going to have a heart attack.

Thanks for the advice Racheal your a star. I was nearly afraid to start exercising again encase I causes the pain to get worse, that put my mind at ease to hear that. Sorry to hear you were in there twice, it can be a bit scary not knowing what is going on. I know in my mind I was thinking "this is game over" hope you feel better. One good thing came from it for me I quite smoking and hopefully don't start again and I did need to lose a bit of weight.

Good luck with staying away from the cigs.
What better was to become health concious,
then being forced into it. Lol
I use to have a lovely cup of tea every morning milk, sugar. I miss that the most.

I really hope the GI doctor can help you. That pain on the left side is the the worse. I haven't had IBS symptoms for 3 months thank God and I hope it never returns. The pain was so bad I couldn't move and would pinch my side. Eventual all I could do was burst out laughing. The GI doctor gave me Dicyclomime and said IBS was associated with worry and trauma and cased by the mind. I waited to months for that appointment just to hear that. At that time I decided to stop the probiotic and other supplements I was on and felt much better let me know how your appointment goes.

I was treated for H Pylori in December 2011 and had 2 weeks of double anti-biotics, followed by strong antacid meds. Although now free from the infection I have been left with almost permanent (on & off) stomach pain and I feel so depressed that I wonder if I will ever get back to normal!
I have just read in the 31 March issue of The New Scientist that "although widespread use of anti-biotics seem to permanently oust H.Pylori from our stomachs, these positive outcomes coincide with a surge in cancers of the oesophagus, attributed to the acidic environment H.Pylori leaves behind when it vacates the stomach."
This has worried me greatly, and I now wonder: can anyone tell me if they have truly recovered from having H.Pylori? A positive reply from someone would truly help my state of mind! Thank you.
