A few months ago, I was having abdominal and back pain after eating. I went to the doctor, and she ran a few tests. I tested positive for H pylori, so I went through a serious of antibiotics and acid reducer medication for 14 days. The h pylori was eradicated. I found this information by doing a stool test to make sure it was gone. However, I am left with some gastritis, which I had never had before, even when I had h pylori! If I eat a big meal, my stomach will stay full for hours and hours, it's like a delayed gastric emptying... I feel bloated, and sick to my stomach after eating a large meal. I can only eat very small meals in order to feel OKay. It's been a month since I've been off the antibiotics, and 3 weeks since I've been off the acid reducer meds. Is this normal to feel like this for a while after treatment? I'm hoping that the gastritis will go away eventually. Maybe my stomach has to heal from the h pylori infection?? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

i just got off the treatment 6 days ago, and i think i am left with the same thing a gastritis i do feel better than before the treatment. But i have this burning in my chest and stomach sometimes it feels like slight cramping i dont feel hungry at all.I make myself eat bout 3 times a day but i can only eat light stuff and small portions, i lost a good 16 lbs so far, but its not really a bad thing ....I have to go get the test for cure done tomorrow and sometime this week i will get an endoscopy done, to see what going on inside this stomach . I really hope the HP is gone .....i have heard to take some good probiotics for the stomach but when i asked the doctors they both told me to let nature take its course for awhile ,they told me its not the best to take the probiotics right away but i will ask again..but i truly believe that it can take awhile to heal the stomach since we went from one bad thing HP to another the Antibiotic cocktail for 14 days . I really hope you feel better soon :)

tomorrow is the last day of my anti-biotics. ugh. i cant believe i made it out alive, if thats what you can even call me. :( the worst nausea EVER in my life. throwing up close to 10 times a day. the nausea is somewhat passing since i have forced myself to eat more substantial meals despite my lose of appetite. im starting to get this burn in my chest again, which reminds me that heartburn may be back. i really hope this nasty lil bug has left my body. i cant imagine i can take much more of this. i have been struggling witht his for 3 months and have lost 65 lbs so far. saying prayers its gone for good. they say the success rate is almost 85% with double anti-biotic regimens, however, i sure am reading a lot of bad news on the internet. doesnt seem like anyone gets cured all the way. ugh. good luck guys.

I have completed a course of quadruple therapy for H. Pylori. My last dose was a week ago. I am still experiencing upper gastric pain. I have not been able to eat normally because most food hurts my stomach, and I am losing weight (don't need to). I wonder if this is normal or should I be feeling better after the antibiotic treatment?

kate,
i have read lots of different forums and found that upper gastric issues still after completed anti-biotics is normal. i finished my med's on the 18th and i am still feeling upper gastric problems. i have read to eat lots of yogurt or get some sort of pro-biotic vitamins from a health food store. everything iread says that the meds are just really harsh on your system and so is the h.pylori. it explains that the gatric problems are just because your stomach and other parts are inflamed from the stress the meds and h.pylori has placed on it. i am eating pepcid ac twice a day (morning and night). it helps take th edge off. im also taking a pro-biotic to help replenish my stomach witht he good bacterias the medication killed off and im eating lots of yogurt. also, try and stay away from triggers. your insides have been through a lot. hope this helps.

Sorry I finished the treatment the Monday before the 17th I had the test for cure done on the 17th..... the doctors office called this morning and the bacteria is GONE !!!!! But however I'm still having symptoms now I'm wondering is it the Nexium or the Dexilant causing the symptoms of nausea and being lightheaded?? I guess I will hear when I go for a follow up next week or the latest when I have the endoscopy done in August ...you would think if the bug is gone so would the symptoms guess not with this one.....I hope everyone feels better soon :-)

My doctor told me something completely different in regards to the retesting period length, supposedly you have to wait at least 6 months before retesting makes any sense. From what he outlined to me is that the Helicobacter-Pylori bacteria continues a dying off activity even if eradication was successful and that this process makes retesting impossible.

Hmmm....interesting seems like everyone hears different from their doctor makes me wonder .....mine told me to make sure to come in 1 week after I was done with the antibiotics to get a stool test done it is called test for cure so I did that .....and the other one told me he will do a biopsy for HP when I get the endoscopy to make sure ......i did hear bout the test for cure and I did find it on the Internet but I also heard and did read about the waiting 4 weeks before getting retested and then again it would make sense of still having symptoms for a while if it takes up to 6 months before the bacteria completely dies off ....

GMN, I am getting a little bit better now and it's been almost 2 months since I've been off the antibiotics. I went back on a PPI though, and I feel it's helped. My doctor said sometimes you'll need to stay on that for a bit longer just to give the stomach a chance to heal, and then you can get off of it. She put me on it for 6 weeks. It's been 2 weeks so far. I'm hoping everything will continue to get better. Goodluck to you!

Hi. I started having mild nausea, stomach pains, headaches, chills about 3 weeks ago. I finally went to a family doctor 7 days ago and was diagnosed with the h.pylori. I was given 3 pills to take for 2 weeks. I was told to come back in 1 month. Today is day 7. I am having more nausea, headache, and chills than ever. I am worried about the possibility of cancer. I am 33 female. My father's mother died of stomach cancer when she was 50. Her son died when he was 49 of colon cancer. Does anyone think it would be beneficial to skip the 1 month appointment and go straight to a specialist?

I would say that an endoscopy would be your best bet that picks up alsorts of things, I was diagnosed with H.P and given a course of triple theraphy, the doctors here in the UK dont give a two week course, that's what my doctor told me, the first course was done still the pain after a month or so I went back to docs a new stool test was done came back negative, after that I said I wasnt very happy was referred for an endoscopy when the results came back my doc got a shock ,'it was positive' so she put me on another triple theraphy course, I still got pains even after finishing that and took the advise from thoses on forum, taking probiotics capsules twice a day plis linseed oil capsules once a day I eat licorice if I get any burning but I can say that after one week I feel better I also eat pro biotic yogurts, anything is better than the daily discomfort, if you are worried have an endoscopy at least it will put your mind at rest. good luck.

Anybody with H-pylori having similar symptoms? or I have something else also? My digestive problems started with a lot of gas and a pain and burning on front low left side. Few weeks after the burning appeared on the lower left side back, after that on the opposite side right, and later on moved on the upper back between shoulders, gurgling, fermentation noise, warmth on the intestine, burping dur...ing the day, acid coming on the moth when lie down, bend in front or doing push-ups. Test showed H-pylori. After 7 days of H-pylori treatment the gas is gone but the burning reappeared in less than a week, stronger and longer, warmth in abdomen, intestine. After suffering for a week with burning I received pp Lansoprazol. The appointment with gastro is on 31 Aug.
