Larry,
When the bacteria dies it very often leaves a metallic taste in your mouth so that could be the reason. Also for many persons even after getting rid of h pylori, they still have acid reflux and or gastritis for a period and it takes some time for the stomach to heal. So be patient, continue to eat healthy and ensure you get retested to see if the bacteria has gone.
Hi Kassy

I finished the antibiotics on 1/02/12, I tested negitive for HP on 2/6/12. I have read on some of your past post about alternative routes (mastic gum), I am not going to try anything.

Will you repost what happened and what are you doing now?

I also experience severe chest pain, just under the rib case and very often accompanied by a frog in my throat (kind of feels like something is stuck there). The pain is sometimes dull and nagging, other times its gone and then it returns with full force like there is a large hand tightening my organs from the inside. Sometimes it goes to my upper back too. Anyway I found out today that I have h.pylori and will start meds tomorrow. I'm also on a waiting list to do an endoscopy to rule out possibility I may have something more serious like an ulcer. I hope these meds work, I am not sure I would like a diet that restricts gluten, dairy and soya. Anyway good luck to you.

Well I had/atrophic gastritis, and h pylori for about 4 years. Wanted to get rid of the h pylori once and for all and based on what I was reading online learned that the bacteria can be resistant to anti-biotics and some persons had stated that they took the anti-biotics several times and it did not work for them, so I thought it was what was happening to me. So in an act of desperation after having read about mastic gum and it seemed to work for most persons I decided to try it, inspite of the fact that I was hesistant and unsure about its safety. Anyway gained the courage to take it and it started out with slight cramps so I thought it was tolerable enough but by day 13, I was in severe horrible pain. I started having trouble digesting my food and I eventually ended up with pernicious anemia. what the mastic gum did is that it destroyed the few parietal cells that I had left and as a result I no longer can produce stomach acid and intrinsic factor so I am b12 deficient, iron deficient and lack a whole lot of other nutrients so my stomach basically DOES NOT function as a normal stomach should and there is no medical cure for this condition. Hence I am at risk for stomach cancer and a whole lot of other illnesses. The mastic gum also damaged my kidney and affected my liver. So that's why I will forever warn persons to STAY AWAY from it. No matter how many good reviews there are about it. DO NOT buy and use any herbal products to use especially without consulting your doctor. Follow doctors orders and stick to the antibiotics even if it means using them 5 times before they work. It's just the right combination of anti-biotics is needed for the bacteria so you have to try until you get it right. Trying mastic gum is a bigger risk than using anti-biotic and there is still no guarantee that it will work for you. It did not work for some persons still. After this happened I went further into my research and found a few persons who had bad experiences with it. One guy commented on my review on amazon that he had problems with it as well. So just because something claims to be natural does not mean that it is safe. In fact there is no way to trust the manufacturers of these products that are being sold online because they can put any harmful substance in their product and tell you it's good and safe and we have no way of knowing because they have not gone through FDA trials and are therefore not approved. Conventional meds can be harmful to persons just as well, but at least the side effects and potential dangers are usually well known and documented. DO not buy any pills of any kind online and put yourself at risk no matter how good they claim to be.

I read all the symptoms that are associated with pernicious anemia.

Wow!! What a testement.....I have so many questions, but I will keep it to a minium.

To my understanding the acid breaks what we eat, then passed on to the small intestines ect.. How is your body passing food and when having a BM has that changed? What are you eating? You mention "kidney" damage, do you have only one (I have only 1)? Have you been hospitalized or surgeries?

In my life there has been people who take the "Natural" way and the few that are no longer around, has always made me questions these kind of products.

Prayers for you.
and just like the apostles of the bible wrote letters of warnings, you have a just cause..

No I still have both kidneys. Since I took the mastic, it damaged the cells so they are not working as they should. Protein keeps coming out in my urine and before that I did not have protein in my urine. I keep getting infections since I now have no stomach acid and my bowel movements are rare. I get a bowel movement probably once every 2 days. There are times when I am blessed to have 1 each day for a week at times. My food takes forever to digest. I must say that I had the h pylori for so long that it had caused my stomach to thin out and lose a lot of the mucosa but it was digesting foods before the mastic but the stomach acid was probably low since h pylori targets your acid producing cells and affects your acid production. Larry, I had a chance to save my stomach had I used the anti-biotics. Anti-biotics have never affected me in any bad way before. I went ahead and did my own thing instead of seeking medical attention. I want to warn persons not to do that. DO not attempt to treat yourself with Natural products especially stuff online. The Internet is a dangerous place and everyone wants to make money. So they would even go as far as getting persons to put fake reviews so that their product will sell. I use digestive enzymes to help me digest my food. It stays in the stomach a very long time before it is even digested and I guess it just grinds up in the small intestine. I really can't say how exactly it happens but all I know my stomach hurts a lot and I cannot even eat bread or solid food. I have to eat mostly liquids and soft food. If i eat solid food it hurts my stomach and stays there all day. My life is over. I need a miracle from God. God is keeping me alive. Pray for me that I will get the miracle I need. Warn persons to stay away from herbal pills because their side effects are not well known and they are taking a massive risk with their lives.

Hello, I am new to this forum and I wanted to share I am a 30 year old female and I was recently diagnosed with HP. I was kind of scared to go to the doctor at first when I started feeling ill so I would look up my symptoms online to seek herbal medicine help. Reading medical things on the internet made me crazy and paranoid because I really thought I had some bad disease like lupus, heart, kidney, lung, and liver diseases (because I used to drink and smoke cigarettes a lot). I thought I was dying. I turned to many herbal products but they didn't seem to work. Finally I went to get checked out and one doc thought I was crazy and prescribed Xanax but I did not take them.I went to another doc and he told me I had thyroid and lupus. I went to another doc and he confirmed I did not have lupus. I finally went to a doc from a very good hospital. I had to take a upper GI series test, abdominal sonogram, EKG for my heart, stool sample and blood work. My blood work/tests came back normal, no lupus or thyroid there.I was so relieved. They did not find any ulcers, liver or kidney problems, lupus, heart disease. But they did detect HP in my stomach. I have been suffering from this for almost 3 years now. I was such an active and healthy person and when this all started everything just went downhill. I think that it all started when I attended a wedding in 2009. I ate some contaminated chicken and it made me very sick. My stool came out blue and green. I never had my stool come out blue and green ever before but I got better. But this is the day I would never forget: One day in May I had eaten 2 hotdogs. I was vomiting like crazy, I really thought I was going to have a heart attack. My heart was racing. I was dizzy, I had a rash all over my body, burping gas, really bad stomach pains etc. I never experienced anything like that ever in my life. I was rushed to the ER where the doc told me it was prob gas(WRONG!!). After being diagnosed with HP now my symptoms make sense. My symptoms were/are: racing heart, lack of energy, lack of sex drive, burping gas all the time, chest pains, heart pains, hair loss, rib pains, back pains, dizzy, headaches, nausea, insomnia, cold/hot sweats, shaking, bloated, back pains, anxiety, loss of vision, I could not eat, I could not swallow, hot flashes, unbalanced, dry/salty mouth, I would cough up blood, loss of hearing, I could not stand for long periods of time, burning sensation on my sides, I could not breathe, nervousness, I can go on and on. I was afraid to go out and do the normal things I did. I would wake up almost everyday around 2-3 am because I had such stomach pains and chest pains and I woudld sweat like crazy. I was afraid to sleep. I stopped drinking alcohol and cut down on coffee because that would make it worse. I stopped eating fatty meats such as pork. I would eat BBQ a lot which could also have been the culprit. I will never touch or eat a hotdog/sausage again. I lost a lot of weight at the beginning but now I'am always hungry. My sleeping pattern has gotten better. My chest pains went away. No night sweats. The doc put me on Prevpac (Amoxil, Prevacid and Biaxin). I am on my 5th day of taking this 14 day medicine. It makes my stomach feel worse than it is and it makes me nauseous, I have diarrhea, and a bad taste in my mouth. You have to eat before taking this medicine or else you will feel worse. Aside from all this, I'm feeling a little better. I feel like the bacteria inside is saying, "I'm melting, I'm melting". I feel like my back pain is going away. I just cant wait to be done with these meds and live a normal life again. I hope my anxiety goes away. I used to be so happy and healthy. I hope it does go away and never comes back. I am kinda of glad I have HP and the doc diagnosed it finally. Thank goodness, it is nothing more severe. I didn't know that so many people suffer from this. I am glad I was able to talk about it and pass my experience onto others. Thank you for listening!!

what were your stomach pains like? Was it a burning under the rib cage? I am glad that you have been diagnosed and you are taking the antibiotics. Keep taking them until they are finished. So what was your diet like during the 3 years you have been feeling sick? Now that you are on antibiotic are you avoiding certain foods like sugar, milk, fried foods, stews, spicy food and acidic foods? The antibiotics work best when you avoid these things.

Liz & Chloek,

I can mirror the symptoms, my GI doctor told me I needed psycological help. I have had some major health issues, but this HP is bad. when I was taking the Pylera, I had sleepless nights and I became very sensitive to the slightest noise.

Its been two months since finishing the meds and I too have the symptoms but not as bad, but the one that just keeps on keeping on is the bleach, burning rubber, burning electrical, nasty taste and smell to my breath, nothing I do helps.

Hi, my stomach pains were burning at times, sometimes I felt stabbing pains, bloated pains and yes I had pains right under my rib cage and by my breast bones. I had to burp every 2 seconds because everything I ate bothered me. At first I could not eat, I had no appetite but I started eating again and my diet consisted of alot of junk/fast food, carbs, foods with sauces, meats etc.(mediterranean foods). Now that Im on the meds, I dont have an appetite but I have to eat in order to take my meds. I used to eat alot of spicy foods but I stopped because that just messed up my stomach. I have been avoiding alot of foods. I love citrus fruit but those make me sick too and never again will I take my meds with orange juice because that made me so sick. I also stopped drinking coffee and alcohol. Thank you for your advice!!

You are welcome! I am happy to help especially considering what has happened to me. You remind me of me. I had h pylori for years and I was never given proper advice as to how to eat and deal with the bacteria, so I ate anything. When I realised that I still had the bacteria about 3 years after the first anti-biotic treatment, I got carried awasy by what I read online about the bacteria being resistant to anti-biotics and some persons did anti-biotics several times and did not get rid of it, so I assumed it ws the same with me and I made the mistake of taking mastic gum which persons spoke highly of and made it seem like this miracle cure, but it was the worst thing I have ever done. So keep taking your anti-biotics and make sure to get retested after the treatment. GO back to see your doctor after the treatment so that he will decide when to retest to ensure that the bacteria is gone. If it means doing anti-biotics 3 times then do it, but please forget about the herbal route because that is dangerous especially where you have had it for a while and your were eating junk food then it means that our stomach will be inflamed and probably thinned out from all the irritation, so the anti-biotics are the best and safest choice. Drinking cranberry juice helps with h pylori infection.

We have similar symptoms. For the past couple weeks I have noticed a smell to my urine that was not there before. Friday I was tested for several things, which all came back negative. I have not yet seen the results of the h. pylori test. If it comes back positive, I will return to your post to apploy more comments.

Hi. I have had acid reflux for a year now. I've been on protonix and a few months ago I started having stomach pain, bloating, gas, belching, and chest pain. I thought I was going to have a heart attach. This caused me to have anxiety which then led to rapid heart beats! I went to the Cardiologist and had an echo and a stress test only to find out (thankfully) that my heart was just fine.
I then decided to finally take my doctor's advice and get an endoscopy. Afterwards, the doctor said that my pictures looked good and he took some biopsies. Two weeks later I get a call that I have H-Pylori and I've been put on Biaxin and Amoxicillin and told to increase my protonix to twice a day.
My question is about a symptom that I have that I don't know if it is related. For almost 5 months I have had the strangest smell in my urine and stool. I smell the same smell when I apply heat to my hair and I even smelled it when the dentist drilled my tooth the other day. I have told the cardiologist, the gastroenterologist, and my regular doctor and they are all unsure why. I have had blood work and that all came back ok. I am wondering if what I am smelling is a result of the bacteria being broken down or otherwise exiting my body. I feel like I am going crazy but I know that something is not right. I am so hoping that this symptom will go away after my treatment for H-pylori and I can link it to that.
Anyone?

It was diagnosed with a stool sample test. I took herbal treatment to help with anxiety, I took garlic pills for my heart, I drank herbal teas/chamomile to help with my stomach and because I could not sleep. I took "the good bacteria" pills, herbal pills for headaches because I had a headache everyday. These helped for a very short time that's when I thought to seek medical help instead of me thinking I am a doc and trying to diagnose myself.

I am so happy to know that you are doing much better. I am so envious of you. You are so smart to follow advice and take the antibiotics. I wish I had the smarts to follow my feeling of uncertainty and not take the mastic gum. I really would have been fine if I had done the antibiotics again. Always go to your doctor with a problem and take their advice. Do not take any advice about herbal products online. If you feel tempted to do so then talk to your doctor first and if you feel uncertain about the safety of some alternative treatment follow your instinct and stay away. Happy for you once more.

By the way how much of the antibiotics are you taking daily? Some people are given up to as many as 20 pills to take in a day, are you on that many?
