It's not quite that simple, and they would say quite the opposite. In fact it is one of their favorite conspiracy theories.

This compromise is a smart move by Obama as it tends to work against the right wing fundie War on Religion screed.

Anyway, there was a tenuous Free Exercise issue in there somewhere, arguably, so Obama can claim he's just trying to respect religious liberty.

And that's good PR.
