House overwhelmingly refuses to expand Medicaid
The Louisiana House overwhelmingly refused Tuesday to provide government-subsidized health insurance to thousands of people with the Medicaid dollars available under the federal Affordable Care Act, in a vote that appears to shelve the issue for the legislative session.

I don't understand why they'd do this. They money is already there, and refusing on the principle of the thing will potentially cost hundreds or thousands of lives here in LA alone. It's the political equivalent of a scorched earth policy. Are they hoping that the poor will all just die and then won't be a problem anymore?
