Dear Dr. Rosenberg: It is possible for prescription pain medications to cause sleep apnea? I'm on Oxycontin for a chronic and painful back condition.

Yes I do believe that because their are alot of patient's I know at the clinc where I go, with sleep apnea and they didn't have it before the got on methadone. There are alot of side effect's that they didn't tell us before we started. I asked various questions and they told me lies. I asked if it makes you gain weight too. They said no, I found out now that it messes up your system (bowels&intestinal)and among other side effects.
