Is mouthwash really necessary?
Well, not really. According to a study by a panel appointed by the Food and Drug Administration, there aren't many positive things to say about the stuff.

While I definitely agree that if someone has a case of severe halitosis, it is definitely a good idea to see a dentist and a doctor, I believe that mouthwash is getting a bad rap here. It is true that commonly, mouthwash contains alcohol and other ingredients that may not actually benefit bad breath. Alcohol may actually cause dry mouth. You can read more about that there: http://www.therabreath.com/art_alcohol.asp . However I find that using Therabreath products, both toothpaste and mouthwash (which are alcohol free) do fight bad breath and keep it at bay. When used together, they are far more effective than just the use of toothpaste alone.

Dental experts are warning mouthwash could cause oral cancer and should be made available on prescription only.A review published in the Australian Dental Journal has linked mouthwash containing alcohol to an increased risk of developing the deadly disease.
