Yes, GERD most certainly does exacerbate COPD. I have had non-smoking-related COAD/COPD all my life, and GERD has,on many occasions - mainly due to the aspiration of gastric acid - caused massive respiratory problems (and lung damage).
PPIs definitely help with this, as do bedside antacids at night, but the only sure remedy, in my long experience - I'm 62, and have had my respiratory problems since age 2 - is a head and trunk-elevated sleeping position, using an adjustable backrest. Not comfy, but I suspect I might live longer! Contrary to received wisdom, I find a bedtime snack actually beneficial, provided it's fairly bland - milk and biscuits hits the spot. |

i stayed curled up on the couch for five months with GERD- my doctor started me on the drug LYRICA---it was supposed to take up to 7 days to feel effects-----instead, one hour later i was off the couch and feeling human again-i dont know what id do without LYRICA-i quess id be curled up on the couch again--LYRICA gave me my world back
