Hi:
It all started in September 07, I got a really bad sinus infection that started in my nasal sinuses. I live on the West Coast and traveled back east to see family and then to North Carolina. I was having stomach problems prior but did not think it was anything serious. So airline travel and swimming in the ocean are all part of this.
Here is the timeline. June -I had a sore throat for 6 weeks, went to my primary doc in early July. She asked if I had stomach problems I said no, because I did not have any. I was prescribed a Z-Pak (5 day antibiotic) for the sore throat. My stomach did not feel right, I did eat yogurt and all that. So now this is mid - July. I was watching tv about a week after finishing the Z-Pak and my throat started spasm, cinching up is the best way to describe it. I was really scared had no idea, went back to a different doctor in the practice, he gave me Aciphex. I tried it for 1 week and had a worse sore throat. Granted the doctor at this time did not say I had lpr, I described my symptoms, given Aciphex and went on my way. So the then this is Mid-August and we started traveling. I had the Aciphex but did not like it, because I thought it was giving me a bad sore throat and took Pepcid AC. Came home, mid September got the bad sinus infection, could not breath, taste, smell horrible, worst ever. Perscibed Cefuxime Axitel (antibiotic), 6 days into that my throat and ears swelled up, bad ear infection both ears, a childhood illness. I was a healthy person, never had this before.

I did not mess around went to a new ENT was on Augmentin 875mg for 24 days tried Nasocort AQ and Afrin, actually I could not breath on these, seemed to make it worse. I do not like either one of these and did not find them effective, tried these for 4 weeks, no results. Finished that my stomach was on edge, I had lunch out, came home that evening and acid welled up into my throat. My ears have been popping and clicking everytime I swallow since mid-September, by the way.
Now this is early October, went back to ENT - had the nasal endoscopy and she said my laynx, red and swollen, she said the PPI would help my ears, but it would take a couple of months. I was shocked, never heard of this before she told me to take 1 Prevacid - in the morning, went to Prilosec for 1 week this was during the month of November.

Last week of November finally got into to see my Internist. He started a new approach 2 Protonix a day with or without food, and Allegra D 24 hour. The Allegra D worked great but not with my stomach, I became dizzy, nausea, headache. So I am staying with Protonix only 2 times a day and I just keep eating food, I did loose 10 pounds with all this. I have gained about 4 back, I am a small person and did not want to loose weight.

So it has been 11 weeks on double Protonix. I am not sure if November on 1 PPI a day counts for anything in all this. I have also been working out at a club to reduce stress and keep my immune system up.
Every morning I wake up and hope to be better - not yet.
My symptoms today: Swollen larynx, popping and clicking in my ears, feeling of swollen under my chin. I have had blood tests chest, sinus x-ray and a CT sinus scan, they all normal, I get more results from the CT scan tomorrow.
When does the swollen larynx and ears go away? I feel like a loser and that I am the only one with this horrible feeling, has anyone has this similar experience? swollen throat affecting ears?

I get bad heartburn on and off. ENT said it was acid reflux. I get burning sensation in my ear when i burp, which is not nice.
The symptoms come and go every 3 months or so.
Stopping smoking and cutting down on dark beer really helped me. I also find that when i'm carrying more weight symptoms can start.
Unfortunately i'm glad to find out i'm not alone,

The symptoms you have sound a lot like TMJ: http://www.tmjdental.com/sub.php...

I went to a few ENT's with the symptoms in that link and they treated it as a sinus issue.

The air in the room you sleep may be dry. Using a humidifier at night to add moisture to the air may help with both issues. There are devices similar to thermometers that measure the humidity of the air and can tell you if the air is below, normal or above normal humidity levels.

This sounds like TMJ as well. Is your dentist trained in this area?

Hi everyone, I have too been fighting atrocious symptoms for the past 6 weeks, throat that I can't describe as sore but more like painful, only on right side, quite localised, complete with an earache, dry throat, especially in the morning, feeling of swelling at the back of the jaw, generally miserable mood and fearing the worst. I went to my GP twice, been given amoxi for 10 days which did not help and have ENT appointment in 2 weeks time. Also been to the dentist, dental probs ruled out. Just needed to say that whatever it is, it's not nice and taking the toll on us, so my heart goes out to all of you. Am very scared though. Very.

This could simply be the result of poor eating habits. Try spreading your meals evenly over the course of the day and don't over indulge in any one meal. Also, don't eat after 7pm at night so you don't tax your digestive system when sleeping.

My guess is this could be a minor bacterial infection in the throat resulting from inhaling germs in the air. Are you in close quarters with people a lot like on a bus on subway routinely where there may be germs in the air that are easily inhaled? Or live in a big city? Try gargling with a stringent anti-bacterial mouth wash daily.

i got the same problem left side throat like a kernel stuck in it and ear feels weird and comes and goes. But since my medical insurance is not the best and i been putting of the doctor, this site makes me feel better cause i thought the only thing that it could be was throat cancer so i guess i dont care what it is as long is it not that and i will not lose my voice or have them cut part of my face or anything away. Plus i wonder if its cause of my wisdom teeth, cause it didnt start until a month and half after they pulled them out. I will go to doctor soon and see what happens but this stuff scares me. Wish everyone the best.

I have had throat pain on one side on and off for about a year and a half or so. I too thought that I had throat cancer. Had an ENT do biopsies and even seen a Gastro Dr.. He too did biopsies. I was put on Nexium. Just before I was feeling better, my insurance wouldn't cover the Nexium anymore. The pain comes and goes but it is a constant reminder that something isn't right. I get very upset when I feel this pain in my throat, yet I too can eat everything, drink, yell, sing, everything with no stiff neck either. Any ideas?

Have your THYROID checked; ask for an Ultrasound - blood work won't do the trick for these symptoms.

If it the symptoms are always the same and come and go you could be having a simple allergic reaction to something be it food, or something in the environment. When you have these episodes take note of when you have them and what you ate or where you were and what you were doing before experiencing them and see if you can play detective and isolate the source assuming of course it is an allergy.

I just want to add that apple cider vinegar seems to have done the trick since I've been almost without symptoms since I took some. A tea spoon seemed to have done the trick for me so far. Just the second day, but it seems better.

Ok, the apple cider seems to have done the job. Now I'm getting pain right below my adam's apple, to the front. Doesn't feel like its coming from the inside either. Could it be related or am I just over exagerating?

I was diagnosed with LPR about 2 months ago after normal CT scan and several endoscopies, and have been on Nexium 2xday for a week (once a day didn't work). ENT says to continue for 2 months and then go to 1xday. I actually have gotten lots of support from my pharmacist, who says that LPR is relatively new and often not treated correctly (it was his idea to go to 2xday and it's already working better than 1xday). My symptoms are fullness to left of my throat, sometimes right side (larynx), sometimes weird tongue feeling, ear pain, weird feeling on left side of mouth and chin. The throat fullness is by far the most annoying and consistent, to the point of really driving me nuts sometimes. My question - what would all these have to do with stress or thyroid? I am under a lot of stress right now and also was diagnosed with thyroiditis last fall (mom has hypothyroidism, I'm not there yet, but will be tested yearly - inevitable). Also have clicking of jaw (kids tell me not to chomp - they acn hear it!!) TMJ?
Can anyone decipher all this? Otherwise in great health. I totally relate to others who can't get rid of this. No one else I know can relate to how crazy this can drive a person.

Last week I didn't eat properly, meaning my lunch was basically spicy chips, and I used to drink coffee, but started drinking tea and since the weekend I have a horrible pain in the right side of my throat and neck. I also feel nauseaus. I hate it, and worry about all sorts of bad diseases.

In Jan of 07 I came down with a bad cold/pneumonia after a few weeks it was gone but I had pressure in both ears equally and some headaches. After visiting 2 ENT's and 5 scans and every medication known to man. I went to a Gastro MD, the endoscopy was clear but the Bravo showed reflex.
I have no symptoms except for the ear pressure and headaches and some occassional mild horseness. No heartburn.
I am now seing a MD who is recommending a Nissen Fundoplication. However he has not heard of these symptoms being associated with atypical reflux.
Has anyone heard of this problem before?

WWith tears in my eyes, I am reassured to see others have the same symptoms. Thousands of dollars and tests and meds and drs. and now minus a gallbladder later nothing has improved. I have tried the apple cider vinegar and honey method which gives a little relief. Has anyone used manuka honey? I was looking for natural solutions besides ac vinegar and came across manukahoneyusa.com . The testimonials have been encouraging. I am going to order some tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have had all of these symptoms for about three months. I've had severe gas and it has felt like there has been something stuck in my throat. I have been noticing small amounts of blood, That I thought was coming from my throat but I have noticed that it could be my sinuses. Everything seems to be getting better. When this whole thing was at it's peak I had a stiff neck, sore throat with the lump feeling. I've had a cbc and a chest x ray. All good so far. My first cbc did show that I had a virus. My GP seems pretty sure that I have some sort of reflux, maybe some gastritis. It's been horrible. My nerves have been shot. The Dr wants me to take some antidepressent/anti anxiety medication because I've been killing myself with worry of throat cancer. The doctor has me taking prilosec for three months. I'm still not convinced that it's not cancer. The Doctor said that he's ninty % sure that I don't have cancer. I'm only thirty one.

Someone please give me some help. I see an ent this thursday.
