Yom Kippur etiquette can trip up Jews and non-Jews alike

It's the Jewish New Year. But don't say "Happy Yom Kippur ." Wishing a Jew a "Happy Yom Kippur" would be a faux pas on the most solemn day of the Jewish calendar, the Day of Atonement, which begins at sundown ... Full Story

Not Nice - Did they tell you they were jewish? after food and drink what is there witin the "total bill"? Taxes? You want me to tip you on an amount that is totally unrelated to the services you provided... Moron.

As a matter of fact, do you question ever patron at a restaurant to check their religious position?

People like you really are unbelievable. It just tells me you (and the like minded) have limited education, and exposure to anything outside of your little world. Your Daddy probably hated jews and said all sorts of Archie Bunker crap and you are too ignorant to formulate opinions based on what is really going on in the world around you.

How about you tell us about yourself for a minute. I am sure we can come up with some nice things to say about you and "your kind".

As for those that say, why do we have to hear about it... How about so you are all not ignorant as well. I have to read, hear and watch about Christmas for months. It bothers you so much that for 1 day a brief article was published explaining it a bit.

One practical aspect of Yom Kippur is that people are forced to contemplate their lives, try to fix what they've done wrong in the past year, and try to improve themselves. The fasting, etc. may be seem strange to someone unfamiliar to the tradition. But look past that, and it's just people who are rexamining their lives and trying to be better people.

I can hope then if not pray..... and only Jews take out calculators - Whenever I go out with other couples we just split the bill no matter what people ordered. I have been out with non-jews who calculate what they each order...... I am sure other religions do the same thing - and how are you positive that you saw only Jews???? go to restaurants and I am sure you will see it of other religions......
chill out crazy.

I agree with bipolar bear. It is so obvious. Anyone with a rational brain can see it. Today's religions are no different from the ancient Greek mythology except not as much fun. Just as we now look back on the ancient religions as primative people in the future will look at us and say the same thing.

From MoneyInstructor.com :

Tipping is small sum of money given to someone for performing a service. Tipping is also known as a gratuity.

It is a custom to give a tip at a restaurant to the waiter or waitress. The tip is normally a percentage of the pre-tax amount of the bill. The exact percentage to tip is for you to decide, depending on the quality of service and your own generosity, however, 15-20% of the pre-tax amount is usually considered an appropriate amount.

This is the great thing about being a born again atheist: none of these idiotic superstitious rituals to go through. How anyone can actually believe this "God" nonsense is simply beyond rational thinking.
Instead of burying their noses in a prayer book, their time would be better spent reading Richard Dawkin's book, "The God Delusion" or any book on physics.
It's not just Jews, but Christians, Muslims, Hindus and all the rest who have been brainwashed into believing this claptrap. Religion is all about power and control by the Grand Poobahs who run the various churches, temples, mosques, shrines, etc.
There's no Heaven and no Hell. When you're dead, that's it. Game over. Enjoy life while you can.

Why are american jews silent, about Netanyahu making political commercials for the Romney/Ryan campaign?.....Commercials that criticize a standing American President, for not staging a pre-emptive attack on Iran.....Having learned, that a mere 29% of Israelis agree with Netanyahu's position on Iran, what deal might he have made with Mitt Romney to insert himself, in another country's election?...A percieved ally....
