This is good news for Lilly they have an expanded multi-billion dollar diabetes treatment market.

Let's not forget their zyprexa customers like myself, who contracted diabetes as a zyprexa complication and NOW must pay for Lilly's Byetta to treat it.

There they go again - making people diabetic on the drug Zyprexa on the one hand, then swooping in to give them the diabetes drug Byetta with the other.

It's a twofer.

I think that Byetta sounds like a great medication. When companies make drugs they always have the best intentions, they go through tests to determine adverse reactions. Unfortunatly most side effects do not show there ugly face during clinical trials, I beleive this is due to the fact that they can't monitor the drug over a long period of time in a controlled environment. This risk is possed with any medication. Pharmaceudical companies are not out to kill us they do want to help, and they automatically let the public know if the discover something that doesn't seem right. I am completely behind the study and development of new medications, not to just benefit myself but millions more.

I'm sorry but the companies do NOT let people know when a problem is discovered. In the Spring of 2002 both Japan and the UK makde Lilly place warnings on the labels of Zyprexa warning of diabetes, hyperglycemia and death. Lilly said nothing about it to anyone, nor did the FDA. It waasn't until we got front page news coverage in 2003 that the FDA a cted and not until 2004 that it required warnings on the labels of all the atypical antipsychotics. Lilly was relieved because they were not singled out, e ven though their drug is the worst and most lethal (See results of NIH CATIE study).

It looks as if you are another Lilly plant on OUR VICTIMS BOARD. If so, be aware that you have taken away the lives of some of our family members and for the rest of us you have further imperiled out health with diabetes on top of, in most cases, mental illness. You need to go honk the horn of Byetta back at the Lilly plant or in some doctor's office.

I understand the frustration that many people get from medications and their outcomes. I do not agree that zyprexa was a good drug. However I keep in mind that byetta could be a great medication for diabetics. I am not on board with any pharmaceutical company. I am simply a realistic thinker. Zyprexa and byetta are not the same medication and should not be treated so. I've heard great things about byetta, and many diabetics like the medication. It is revolutionary when the health care industry discovers a new med. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have any medication to treat anything. Zyprexa was a bad drug that had good intentions. Byetta can help many type 2 diabetics finally monitor there health condition.

Sorry, the irony is just too much to swallow, that the greedy, secretive company, that knew Zyprexa could kill and didn't tell, also makes diabetes drugs. It is too much to expect one of us to pay any attention at all to Byetta or any other diabetes drug. We who aare alive mostly have mental illness to start and now must also cope with diabetes. You look on the boards here...little discussion of diabetes drugs. Much discussion of when people are going to get their tiny little checks from the Lilly lawsuit, from which they have been ripped off. And as for me, who lost my precious son to the disgusting drug, you can take Byetta and throw it for all I care. We are only human, and some of us have broken hearts which will never heal, and are incapable of having ANY kind word for this terrible company. Put yourself in our shoes.

Have you been diagnosed with pancreatitis from the Byetta? My husband had induced episodes of pancreatitis while taking Byetta and it developed into pancreatic cancer which metastisesed before it was surgically removed. I hope your symptoms were caught early.

I have been taking byetta for a few months. I have not lost the weight I'd been led to believe I would lose---only a few pounds.
What I do have is terrible intermittent stomach pain. I also have pain between my shoulder blades and chest, sorta in the middle. I feel horrible most of the time. The blood sugars appear better 2 hours after eating, but if I check them 3-4 hrs later, hi as ever.
I am on insulin only-no oral meds. Type 2, induced by zyprexa.
I have not found anywhere that shows it has been studied in type 2's on insulin only. I think this is the problem mentioned by type 1 who posted earlier.
Byetta commericals that just started running here clearly say not to use if you are on insulin.
Please give any info you can!!!!!

My mom just died Thursday and we remembered she was on Byetta and seeing all this is no settling well with my spirit. She developed duodenal cancer (a very rare form of cancer) which was found behind the pancreas. We are just researching and ran across your article. Yeah! They need to take a step in our shoes, if only for a minute.

It is unfortunate that many people find out the hard way about the adverse effects of these medications. In the case of Actos, where some users suffered heart failure and bladder cancer, all they can do is file lawsuits against the manufacturer to be compensated for the losses and suffering. Nevertheless, they cannot reverse what has already been done to them,

Despite this endorsement of Byetta, people should be aware of the reports from other patients who have taken Byetta and suffered from pancreatitis or more fatal pancreatic cancer. At the most people should first consider their options carefully before taking Byetta. Read more about it's side effects here http://byetta-pancreatic-cancer-lawsuit.net/d...
