This school board is as comical as the York City Council meetings. Don't go to the movies and pay money- watch the council meetings on tv or go to a school board meeting and save the money on entertainment. I thought school boards are supposed to work with the school district- not in this case. I feel this school board needs all new members!

And then we wonder why the York City School District is in a state of disarray? You don't to look far to see where or how the kids get THEIR attitude & antics. York is SUCH a cesspool.

That's why York City schools didn't close early yesterday, Hiawatha wouldn't allow them to read the message to the news media.

I would rather have the first nine people listed in the York phone book run the city schools than the current bunch of boobs that are funning it now.

Your first post attempt was, unfortunately, just as valid.

This guy doesn't just owe an apology to Tom Foust, he owes many more to the school board, the district and the students. He is a fine example of what a school board member should never be.

And I think the editorial is flat wrong when it says Powell should have been allowed to vote by phone. He has a track record of not attending meetings! Why give him another excuse to skip. Make him get his sorry behind to a meeting to cast a vote.

When something is so wrong that even the YDR sees it as wrong, then you know its bad.

The intent of this editorial was well meant. But to say that a vote by phone is okay?? How do you know who is on the other end of the phone voting? I have several family members who sound similar on the phone. And one that is confused for me often on the phone.

Also the statement, "It was just mean-spirited on Mr. Powell's part -- even though he made the right vote on the charter school and Mr. Foust erred in voting no", is nothing more than the writer's opinion. I love the way the York papers decide who is right and who is wrong.(By the way, I am for the Charter School. So don't get your panties in a bunch because I don't agree with the way this was written!)

WOW, I can't believe Mr.Powell said that. To me that was very heartless. I hope no one in his family ever goes thru something as horrible as cancer. Cancer is not something that you ask for. He has missed many meetings and should not even be allowed to be a part of the board any longer. How many more chances are we going to give him? It seems like he just creates chaos when he is there anyways.

Many moons ago I was on a Borough Council and unable to speak because of severe Laryngitis.

I didn't have the presence of mind to write out motions, comments, etc; so all that I could do was nod to move or second or vote.

Mrs. Torres was right, the African American members of the board are the real racists.

How dare this idiot compare his situation with a victim of throat cancer! I personally know Mr. Powell, and must admit that he has an excuse for everything. Shame on him! By the way, how in the world did he wind up on the York City School Board??

If Charter Schools are so great, I propose that all the existing schools in York are made Charter Schools. Name one for Dr. Heinley, One for Dr. Gladfelter, another for Penrose Wallace etc. These gentlemen ran educational institutions of learning. Many of the outstanding business and professional people in York, received superior educations.

Very good point. The YDR drinks Kool-Aid and assumes everyone...including this idiot Powell...is on the up and up. From what I've heard, he's a real jerk.

Hiawatha Powell was a "special needs" child while he was a student in York City Schools. Retarded then - moron now. This job is the pinnacle of his otherwise meaningless life and he knows it.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Sagittarius

Once again, the domestic atmosphere isn't exactly peaceful. Someone is still all worked up, and you may have come out in sympathy by now. Try to discuss things with as much objectivity as you can muster, otherwise, with Mars now retro, the conversation will soon disintegrate into a bad-tempered spat or a slanging match in which you try to catch one another out. It's important to clear the air.
