Damn shame to die at only age 68!!!!
Non-smokers as a rule live 7-14 years longer than smokers. Not only do they live longer but they often enjoy better health while still kicking.

They forced him to smoke? If he had all of the health problems mentioned he didn't get them from just smoking when he was making commercials. He had to have been a very regular smoker.

This is total bullsh!t, he was "forced to smoke for the ads"? Two bouts of lung cancer and now throat cancer? Did he not hear the director say "Cut"?

Better still, why not just say "No thanks, I'll just hold it, I won't inhale" (Should have let Bill Clinton be the pitchman).

As a former smoker myself, I don't recall a SINGLE cigarette I was forced to smoke.

My thoughts exactly. How many cigs did he actually have to smoke for the commercials? The man knew what he was doing. May he now rest in peace.

Ummm...cigarettes do cause cancer for those who are predisposed to it. No joke.
Have you fun smoking now while a teen, get addicted to smoking, then you suffer a lifetime of unexplained illnesses, then cancer. You start coughing like a smoker. It is no fun.
Only the people from third world countries smoke a lot because they are uneducated.

Most of the people in the USA are educated and know the danger of smoking. But those who grew up in dysfunctional homes or environment are uneducated and they smoke until it is too late, they get cancer, suffer and die.

So, my advice. Be smart. Act educated. Don't even start smoking. Live life to the fullest smoke-free, pollution-free. You won't regret it.

i believe european smoke more than americans. u saying they are a part of 3rd world country.

education doesnt necessarily have anything to do with why a person starts smoking or if he continues. people simply do what they want to do,
no matter where they grow up or how much money they have.
ur statements dont make much sense...
but i do think they are made with good intentions.
no one wants to see someone suffer with cancer, but in the end, its really a choice with each individual as to whether they smoke or not.

If he hadn't been a smoker then he would have been a hypocrite for doing these ads - but he WAS a smoker.

According to his NY Times Obig he once was a centerfold in Playgirl, but I don't imagine it would be appropriate to post THOSE pictures at his memorial.

It also said he appeared in "Annie Hall" and smoked two-and-a-half packs a day:

Yeah...but they blame that on the second hand smoke....it has nothing to do with car exhaust or factory pollution or any other air quality it is all about smokers and their second hand smoke....

We are a nation of cancers, several types of lung cancer unrelated to smoking, but everyone denies environmental pollution while claiming it is all about the cigarettes.....

By using your stupid mentality everyone that you see in commercials and ads use the products they pimp. right.
The world is full of hypocrites...I would choose life over everything else.

Michael Jordan used to do commercials for the Chevy Blazer (at least in the Chicago area), but EVERY time I'd see him driving around the North Shore (I used to live near him) he was ALWAYS driving a Range Rover. That DID kind of annoy me - I figure you should use what you endorse.

for 1 who died of cancer who may have smoked there would be 20 who died of cancer that never smoked never drink alcohol. i have been doing the counting of those i knew personally and i found out there were much more who died that never smoked than the ones who are smokers.

It would seem logical if environmental toxins can destroy the ozone as claimed those same toxins could easily destroy a set of lungs.
