My father is 76 years old, diagnosed with with stageII A esophageal cancer July 2009. He had stent, port and peg tube put in. He went thru 6 weeks of radiation and 2 rounds of chemo which were 4 weeks apart and 4 days in a row administered in patient in hospital. He refused to receive his last 2 rounds of chemo. In between chemo treatments he had to be brought into ER both times because his red blood count was low and received 2 blood transfusions. After radiation was finished he got pet ct scan and it showed no sign of tumor or metatisis , which started at 6cm in lenght. He was extemely weak and went to surgeon to see about getting esophagectomy , surgeon said he was far too weak to make it through surgery and to come back in 6 weeks. Since then he was in a rehab as he couldn't walk or eat. He is getting physical therapy daily but mostly has been bed ridden and vomits everything he tries to eat or drink. He has been back to to doctor numerous times, xrayed to make sure stent is in place and did barium swallow to make sure food is going down correctly but no one has answers. His only source of nutrition is the feeding tube. Thursday is his six week follow up appointment with surgeon but I cancelled it because he is not better and certainly not strong enough to undergo surgery. I am very concerned he will not get better and he is losing hope also. Has anyone else still been this ill 2 months after finishing radiation and chemo?
