Alan Landers died of cancer. He attributed his cancer to smoking and not to diesel exhaust. He was 68. He will be missed by his family and friends who have been robbed of an opportunity to spend more of his life with him by the cold hearted greed of Big Tobacco.

There are those smoking posters in thier 60s that still have a chance to quit. Maybe their health will not deteriorate to the point his did.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and it is my fervent hope that he will be welcomed by St. Peter with open arms. Despite all that is said and done here on this forum, smokers are not bad people and neither they, nor their families nor their friends deserve to go through this.

For a man his death was average. The activist would like to claim otherwise but even without smoking what is the average life expectancy of a male. You people are chickensahit without scrupulous. We are all going to die. The bottom line iw quality of life not quality of life!

If you think dying from throat cancer is "AVERAGE", you must hang out with heavy cigarette and cigar smokers a lot.
I don't see where not wanting to die that way makes non-smokers, to qoute you; "chickensahit without scrupulous".
As far as how long much longer a non-smoker lives over a smokers depends on many things. First how much does the smoker smoke? Are they each excersing, watching their weight ect? If all else is equal the non-smokers can expect to live 4-7 years longer but that is only part of the equation.
Non-smokers as a rule have fewer major health problems than smokers, so not only are their lives better but they get to enjoy more of it.
