Full story: Newsday

When I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer four years ago, my first thought was to find the best surgeon and hospital in the country.

Spokesman for AARP says medicare should cut subsidies to medicare advantage plans. SURE that would be a BONANZA for the greedy AARPs medicare supplement insurance plans which only the affluent can afford to purchase.

Time to cancel my AARP membership and use that money to support the NRA. What a bunch of back stabbers AARP turned out to be. They are in the pockets of many insurance companies ie; The Hartford for Home and Auto, United Healthcare for healthcare, and others offering Life insurance.

Since there are so many older Americans, it's time to unite those masses and wake up the rest of America. None of these companies have the best interests of the elderly in mind, except how to lighten our pockets.

Why would any one think the insurance industry cares about patients? There are in business to make money not make people well! Profit must be removed from health care.

Transalated to English that means some one sitting in an out of the way office will determine if it is economically profitable to give you treatment or not, if you are elderly.

That person will most likely be receiving a commision on the amount of money he has saved by denying you care.

When the public believed the stupid republican ad campaigns about Universal health care making decisions for the patient and doctor, the public empowered these insurance companies to make all medical decisions for us. They decide what drugs I can take, when I can have an MRI etc. The doctors have been controlled by insur comapnies long enough. Get rid of insurance companies, go to a single payer system and save billions of insur co profits. Stop listening to the right wingers already.

United Health Care earned $22 billion in the last quarter. That is only the money they take in for premiums etc the net profit is the number that should be posted. The salaries that these bean counters received whould be a better show as to where their main interest lies. They are a profit making organization (enough said). Blue Cross Blue Shield used to be a not for profit company which was allowed to redefine itself to a stock company. I wonder how much of the cost was born by the non-profit? Healthcare should be better organized but not by and for the profit motive.

You hit the nail on the head!!! Making profits off of another human being's health. Take the profit out of health care, and that includes these greedy hospitals with the millions they spend on executive salaries.

To Simon Stevens

Appropriateness of care should be left to physicians and not some insurance company bureaucrat who's bottom line is saving money. People need to start fighting against the insurance companies or suffer the consequences.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Aries

Don't get embroiled in a bad-tempered skirmish today, for it might turn into more than that if you aren't careful. Everyone seems to be ratty and argumentative, but once you let the first spat take place it's effectively declaring open season. Even though things seem out-of-joint, keep your lines of communication open.
