Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with Emphysema, I'm on an oxygen machine 24/7 on level 4. I feel very restricted in terms of what I can and can't do. Subsequently, I'm considering purchasing a portable oxygen concentrator. The Eclipse 3 appears to have fairly good ratings. Is it worthwhile purchasing an oxygen concentrator? Has anyone used an Eclipse3 and what are your thoughts? Are there any alternatives that you can recommend? Many thanks!

Hi Ken,
I have used the Eclipse for a 3 years when traveling or extended overnight stays. It works fine, although I hate the alarms. I have had one that just quit on me, which was not good, so always have a back-up bottle(s) with you.
Also, the 12vdc service for use in a vehicle must be above 25amp at idle speed. My new truck has a cig lighter outlet but my Eclipse kept blowing 20 amp fuses. Never had a problem in my old truck(s). IF you are going to travel check you Eclipse out with your vehicle for a couple of hours running...BEFORE you leave on an extended away from home romp.

Ken,
The portable oxygen will provide mobility so you do not feel so confined. Also the breathing tube is shorter and is less likely to have pathogens growing in it. I had two for my mother's concentrator and would soak one in apple cider vinegar while the other one was attached to the machine.
When my mother was diagnosed with emphysema I made sure she took all her medications and did all of her nebulizer treatments on time, every day. I took her to Pulmonary Rehab twice a week.
After more than two years of not smoking and taking all these new drugs and treatments her condition had deteriorated down to Stage IV or End Stage emphysema. She weighed only 77 pounds and required 4 liters of supplemental oxygen 24/7 and was gasping for air most of the time. She could only sleep for about an hour before waking in the middle of an exacerbation. Her food consumption had decreased down to barely a cup of food at each meal. In my opinion, the medical and pharmaceutical industries had totally failed her. The doctors were not upset and scheduled her appointments further and further apart not expecting to see her many more times.
I stayed up all night researching, looking for anything that would give her some permanent relief and healing. The drugs were only masking symptoms. Once the drug wore off, she was right back where she had started before taking it.
She was getting severe migraine headaches that started lasting for the entire day causing her to lay in bed. I looked like the end was near and I was admittedly desperate.
I kept praying for God to point me to some information that would help her and He did.
I strated realizing that there was something growing in her lungs causing the disease to get worse, probably some unknown pathogen introduced by smoking. This pathogen would then continue proliferating even if the patient quit smoking. As the pathogen proliferated, my mother's body adapted by distending her lungs, creating additional lung volume for her to use for breathing. The distending lungs eventually caused a condition known as "barrel chest." The distending lungs also began crowding her stomach which explained why her meals were getting smaller and smaller. This all made sense to me and seemed very logical however, the medical industry continued calling the disease progression a mystery.
I found a diet used by Dr. Kenneth Hunter in his cancer research at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Apparently cancer cells have more than 90 receptor sites for sugar so Dr. Hunter eliminates sugar from the patients's diets along with anything that converts to sugar rapidly in the body like potatoes, anything made from grains like bread and cereal and any other simple carbohydrates. Even fruit is eliminated.
I tried this diet out of desperation and in two weeks my mother started improving. The changes in her condition were subtle. She was not gasping for air at all any more. I also added two supplements Dr. Hunter was using in cancer research. One amplified the immune response and the other tore away the protective protein covering present on cancer cells. My mother continued improving.
I found a book by Dr. Fred Pescatore, M.D., "The Allergy and Asthma Cure" which recommended restoring the immune system and intestinal flora which had been compromised by th euse of antibiotics.

I continued researching all night and anytime I was not taking care of my mother and 17months after starting her on the diet she had completely recovered. That is, she had re-gained all of her lost weight, she did not require any supplemental oxygen, she could eat a full meal with no distress and she could sleep the entire night with waking in the middle of an exacerbation.

So far, nearly 2000 in 8 countries have survived emphysema as a result of this information. I did not come up with it. I found the researchers and writers who did.

Hello Ken, sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Emphysema. When it comes to travelling with portable oxygen concentrators I can tell you out of experience that they are getting better but that they do break down as Eric writes. I was with a POC on holiday in Trukey when this happend but luckely I had registered for alternative oxygen in case the s... would hit the fan with oxygen worldwide. The registration did not cost me anything untill I really needed them.

Hello,
I purchased a Simply Go POC for my husband last year. It is so loud that we could never take it to the theater or church. Fair warning.
The place we purchased it would not let us return it.

if you need portable use I would try the SeQual eQuinox Portable Concentrator , you can read more about it on this page http://dmelibrary.com/portable-oxygen-supply/

i;ve been using mine for about 4 years. the initial investment is expensive but im impressed with the quality and battery life.
