Hey I'm 18 years old and I've had eczema since I was a baby, I'm sick of it now as it wont go away and it really gets me down. I mainly suffer with it on my arms, hands, scalp, neck, face, torso and legs. Usually it's pretty good, it'll just be red and really dry but when it's bad I can't stand the pain, once it was so bad that it closed up my eyes and lips, my arms became infected and the scabs were bloody and yellow. I was like this for a couple of days. I'm on here asking for some help, does anyone know any great things to treat eczema with? I'm on tablets, creams, oils, the lot and nothing works! My skin becomes immune to the cream so it wont work, the tablets do nothing and the oils are useless. It's got to the point where I can't have water being on my skin because it's painful and makes me scratch until I'm bleeding. I find the only cream that works is the really greasy stuff, but it stings me and I get so upset about it and stressed out that my eczema flares up worse, I only put it on before I go to bed because I get in such a state with it on. I've tried to be referred to a skin specialist but my doctor wont let me and I've been down to a Chinese therapist but I can't afford the treatment. I've been told to go on sunbeds which I also can't afford, I've even been told to have a baby, which really confused me, but apparently it works, however, I'm not willing to give that one a go. The thing I'm sick of hearing is 'you'll grow out of it' I was told that I would have grown out of it by the time I was eight, ten years later and I'm still suffering. I get bullied about it too and it's a confidence knock down, I get called crusty or flaky and I hate it, sometimes I can't be too close to people because my skin will come off on them and it's really embarrassing!
Please help me, thanks, Heather.

This has helped my son> He has had Eczema for past 7.5 years and has been basically clear now for 10 months...We washed him in HEB ointment (apply before washing and wash it off with the water by rubbing it in the skin. Do not use any soap. After drying the body etc, we then applied the Xeroderm cream as a moisturiser for the dryness.
Then we applied the HEB + Dovate as a mixture which the pharmacist mixes for you. For bad areas of his skin we used Elecon ointment.
Eczema will always itch. What we did is wet wrap him. Using the HEB and Dovate mixture, we used small bandages and applied the ointment on the little bandages and placed it on the affected areas. We then used long bandages and wrapped it over the small ones so as not for him to scratch. This is quite costly but the reason for the small ones is so that the long ones don't get dirty also.
You have to continue this for a couple of weeks but you will see the results after a day or two. It has taken allot of patience, ointment and bandages but worked. Important to do at night especially because you scratch involuntary during the night. Stay away from tomato, pineapple, dairy products and all the acid stuff. Peanuts, chips etc are all also not good

Most of the oitments are by Script...Yes...acid foods are the worst..my son when he was about 5 years old bit a cocktail tomato and the juice dripped on his hand...immediately he got a rash where the juice ran on his hand.
There is a massive list of your favourite which you should refrain from. It is very difficult but how do you tell a child he can't eat chips or sweets etc.

May I caution that this worked for my son and won't necessarily work for you...but the wrapping is important. What have you got to lose.

It took us years to get the right ointment treatment for him...What also happend is during the change of season, it is as if the eczema comes back but it is a natural thing if you have a flare up during the change of seasons. We discovered this over the years. Just treat it vigorously during this time. Apply the Elecon straight instead of mixing. The generic for Elecon is Dovate ointment but we feel the Dovate does not have the same healing effect as the Elecon but it works and is cheaper.

Take a look at the clinical trial paper:

1. Rev Alerg Mex. 2005 Nov-Dec;52(6):215-20.

[Transfer factor as specific immunomodulator in the treatment of moderate-severe
atopic dermatitis]

[Article in Spanish]

Flores Sandoval G, Gómez Vera J, Orea Solano M, López Tiro J, Serrano E,
Rodríguez A, Rodríguez A, Estrada Parra S, Jiménez Saab N.

Servicio de inmunología y alergia, Hospital Licenciado Adolfo López Mateos,
ISSSTE, Florida, México, DF.

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis is a skin inflammatory disease which has been
associated to high levels of IgE, eosinophiles and change of T lymphocytes. The transfer factor is an immunomodulator active substance and decreases the number of inflammatory cells and the severity of the symptoms of atopic dermatitis.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of the transfer factor as treatment of moderate and severe atopic dermatitis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Articles related to treatment with transfer factor in the atopic dermatitis were looked up in Medline
and EMBASE, and the ones referring to controlled studies in patients with moderate and severe atopic dermatitis in accord to SCORAD. RESULTS: We found seven articles with 121 patients and 88 controls demonstrating significant decrease in the symptoms of the SCORAD index, decreased IgE, and eosinophils in patients treated with transfer factor. CONCLUSIONS: The transfer factor is a
choice treatment for moderate and severe atopic dermatitis.

PMID: 16568705 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

There is only one company that market transfer factor and they are already in UK,the company is call 4Life and have been around for about 11 years.

Their product is a supplement, have no side effects nor toxidity in long term use, even though that you are using it for eczema but it also bring other benefits healthwise. But note that you will be taking this for life as the hypotesis is that there is something amiss with your immune system.

They have chosen to market their product using the Multi Level Marketing business module and you can't get it anywhere else.

Let me know if you are interested and will advise on what steps you need to take.

All the best.

Thanks, I'll have to show my mum this and see what she says.
At the moment I've been put on this French skin treatment using salts from the sea and a cream, it's making my skin softer but obviously it stings because of the salt.. But if that fails, I'll have to give this a go.

Hi Heather

I am also an eczema sufferer. The patches used to only occur inside my elbows, behind my knees and at the back of my neck, but about two years ago it started appearing on my body as well. The patches went from scratchy dry patches, to wet scabby ones, and I eventually developed infection in my skin from scratching. I suffered from then until about a month ago, when I visited a dermatologist who prescribed the following ointments and treatment for me.

Ointments & medication:
Aterax (take one at night to stop itching)
Dovate Mixture (Dovate cream + Epizone A - cetamacrogol)
Dovate cream
Mylocorte Ointment 0.1%
Prednisone (tablets - take 2 a day for 2 weeks then 1 a day for one week)
Protopic
Epizone E
SBR 30g
Epizone A LPC 5%
Epimax Plus 400g

Week 1 & 2
Morning: Wash with Epizone E (face and body)
Apply Mylocorte to patches on face. Followed by SBR over the entire face.
apply Dovate mixture to patches on body. Followed by Epizone E or Epimax Plus if Epizone E is too oily.
Night: As morning, but use Epizone E as body cream.

Week 3:
Morning: Wash with Epizone E (face and body)
Apply Dovate cream to patches on face. Followed by SBR over the entire face.
apply Dovate mixture to patches on body. Followed by Epimax Plus.
Night: As morning, but use Epizone E as body cream.Alternate the Dovate mixture with Epizone LPC (it smells disgusting).

Week 4:
Wash with Epizone E (face and body)
Apply Protopic cream to patches on face. Followed by SBR over the entire face.
apply Dovate mixture to patches on body. Followed by Epimax Plus.
Night: As morning, but use Epizone E as body cream.Alternate the Dovate mixture with Epizone LPC (it smells disgusting).

However, as Marwaan has stated, it's best to see a dermatologist to find out which treatment best suits you. Good luck!

I have suffered from eczema and extreme allergic reactions for as long as I can remember. I won't go into all the details, other than to say it was quite painful and somewhat debilitating. I sought treatment from multiple doctors and specialists, had numerous test done, and faced the same conclusion time and time again...there was no cure for my skin condition, just a dozen prescriptions that helped to mask the problem. I began using several steroid medications, but overtime found the side effects to be more harmful than helpful. I lost pigmentation in my skin from the topical medications and constantly felt jittery and hungry from the oral prescriptions.
In August of 2010, stress triggered a severe reaction. Needless to say, I felt extremely hopeless and it took a toll on me not only physically, but also emotionally. I finally broke down in December and scheduled yet another dermatologist appointment. I had put it off for months and dealt with pain and sleepless nights because I did not want to be prescribed more medications.
During the 3rd week in December 2010, I inquired about Shaklee. I figured it was worth trying natural supplements and skincare from Shaklee to see if it could help my skin before my appointment scheduled for January. Within the first week, I saw amazing results!! I used the pain relief complex and began sleeping through the night immediately.(It's incredible how a good night sleep can change your whole outlook on life). My skin continued improving over the next month through a regiment of vitamin supplements, using the skin care line, and changing to Shaklee cleaning products. By the end of January my skin was completely healed and to this day I can't see even a trace of where the eczema had once been.
My skin has only continued to improve and I haven't had a breakout in over 4 weeks! I really believe by healing my body from a cellular level, I have seen huge improvements not only for my skin, but also my overall health. Supplementing key nutrients my body needs through vitamins, and using completely natural skin care, I believe has healed my body and I'm hopeful I have seen the last of my eczema!! It's exciting to finally have a pure and natural solution, resulting in a healthier life that is only going to continue improving over time!

Get to the root of the problem is key. Often allergies and a weak immune system is the main problem for people with eczema.

You body can't handle all the toxins and starts to excrete them through your skin.

Avoid toxins (refined carbohydrates, smoking, excessive alcohol, saturated dat).

Boost your immune system with plain probiotic yogurts, honey, garlic and olive oil.

And to further help use 100% natural products that hydrate and work with your body. This is the best stuff I have found in 5 years http://www.purelynaturalskin.co.uk/shop/eczem...

Readings Heathers post brought me to tears, as it could have been written by me.. I do totally understand. Mine was!!! so bad I was hospitalized at least once a year some times more most of my life. I have had 2 wonderful kids, so it got better while I was preggers, but once they are born, it came back worse than ever. Infections were them worst thing I seemed to just get rid of one and another would come on. Years of steroid pills and creams, every herbal remedy, everything tried, but nothing. Until... I was so sick and at the end of my rope I change doctors.. he made a urgent call at the hospital, and I was admitted for 3 weeks, while there they did seemed like a zillion tests, but at the end they put me on a course of tablets that reduced my immune system, and within in weeks, I was a new person!! I was wearing shorts, short sleeves, V neck shirts..For some this wont me alot, but for people like me, it is huge.. Now when I go to the Derm clinic, for check ups, I see the looks from some wondering why the hell I'm there. The only way I can describe it, is as a Miracle. I still get tiny patches now and again, but that I happily deal with. From using the worse feeling and smelling creams, oils, lotions, to now being able to use a off the shelve moisturizer "Aveeno" the is the best. These words can't express just how much of a change 2 little pills per day have made to my life, and my families lives. For those of you out their like me.. please ask your Dermatologist... I am taking Azathioprine

Hi! I know it is hard to find something that helps on the internet. I am also suffering from atopic eczema from my early childhoodd, so I was just searching and searching and searching..

Finally, I found blog that is written by one guy that cured from atopic eczema in adult age. There are no scams, no commercials, just real advices that work and I really find these information useful.

So if you are suffering from atopic eczema, just read some articles, or contact him for advice! He´s really good at it! I think, better than doctors are :P

My youngest daughter has suffered from eczema flare-ups since the age of 7. We tried everything on the market and they seemed to work for a while and then they wouldn't. It wasn't so much the patches of dry skin, it was the itch. So, we found a product called CapriClear last year. It's an all natural spray on moisturizer that takes the itch right out and also reduces the redness. Give it a try. You can find it on their website.
