After years of suffering, it became clear that this was an ailment you could not chase; you had to get ahead of it. And then you contain it. This is how I did it. Nothing exotic, but it works if faithfully followed: Begin a 6-day Prednisone taper, apply prescription Clobetasol twice a day for the first week, once a day for the second; apply Aquaphor for each of the 14 days and every day beyond. The Aquaphor creates a barrier which prevents the bacteria (from scratching) from beginning the cycle. The above routine successfully disrupts this cycle. If you are in the throes of a breakout, the moisturizer (in actuality, the key part of this) locks the thriving bacteria BENEATH the barrier and healing will not happen. But the powerful combination of prednisone/Clobetasol attacks the underlying foreign agents and the Aquaphor locks out any new bacteria. Continued use of the Aquaphor will prevent the dry skin that promotes scratching and triggers flare-ups. Congratulations, you have gotten ahead of eczema and stopped the cycle!
